  1. There are so many cafes and restaurants in our town and I like to visit them from time to time. I go there with my parents or with my friends. Food there is very different: Russian, Italian, Japanese, American cuisine. But there is also a lot of fast food there.
    Few years ago I was crazy about McDonald’s and KFC, and food like this. I had a bottle of coke at home, ate hamburgers and french fries almost every day and I was sure it was the best food in the world. When I was 13 I noticed my skin had become bad and I put on weight a lot. I searched in internet and found out that all these problems with health we have because of food.
    So fast food is one of the most popular food in the world and most favorite for many Americans. It’s not a secret people there suffer because of extra-weight. All these things is the result of fast food.
    French fries, Big Macs, chicken burgers chicken tenders and Mac nuggets – all of them are really delicious, but are harmful for our body. And if you find out how to cook these food and what it is consists of, I bet you will lose all interest to this food. There are no natural products and ingredients, but many preservatives, chemical additives, colorants, fats and sugar. It’s not difficult to understand that all these things affect our stomach and nervous system.
    Unfortunately many people don’t understand this fact. If you go to McDonald’s you will see many people eating their meals with families. I guess nobody can explain this, but people should start to take care about the health and read this information in internet.
    Our beauty and health start with proper nutrition and sport. While our body is young and strong it’s easier to take care about our health. But we has to take decision by ourself.

    Несколько лет назад я безумно любила Макдональдс, сеть ресторанов KFC и другие подобные заведения. Дома у меня всегда была бутылка кока-колы, я постоянно кушала гамбургеры и жаренную картошку почти каждый день, и я была уверена, что это лучшая еда во всем мире. Когда мне исполнилось лет 13, я заметила, что моя кожа стала плохой, а ещё я прибавила в весе. Я стала искать в интернете причины и обнаружила, что все проблемы, которыми я обзавелась, появились именно из-за такого питания.
    Итак, фаст фуд – это самая популярная еда во всем мире, и огромный фаворит многих американцев. Ни для кого не секрет, что эти люди страдают от лишнего веса. А это все результат быстрого питания.
    Жаренная картошка, Биг-маки, чикен-бургеры, куриные кусочки и куриное филе в панировке – все это очень вкусно, но и вредно для нашего организма. А если вы посмотрите, как готовится эта еда и из чего она состоит, готова поспорить, вы потеряете всякое удовольствие так питаться. Там нет никаких натуральных продуктов и ингредиентов, а только консерванты, химические добавки, красители, жиры и сахар. Не трудно понять, что все эти вещи влияют на наш желудок и нервную систему.
    К сожалению, многие люди не понимают этого факта. Если вы отправитесь в Макдональдс, увидите, как много людей кушают там свои обеды, собравшись всей семьёй. Я полагаю, никто вам не объяснит всего вреда, если только вы сами не начнёте заботиться о своём здоровье и не прочтёте нужную информацию в интернете.
    Наша красота и здоровье начинаются с правильного питания и спорта. Пока у нас молодое и крепкое тело, нам легче поддерживать его в тонусе и полном здравии. Но каждый должен принять решение самостоятельно.

    The life of modern people proceeds at a fast pace, and often there is not enough free time to eat. For such people, this is the only solution in such situations. Therefore, fast food is very popular and such cafes are opened in different places. Usually the menu consists of simple dishes: fried potatoes, salads, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, milkshakes, various sauces. This food is dangerous to health. It does not contain vitamins and nutrients. It includes dye and flavors. It has a lot of fat and calories. The person is disturbed by the metabolism, which leads to obesity.
    If you can not completely refuse fast food, you should be more particular about products when choosing the menu. It is advisable to stop preference on dietary dishes, vegetable salads with olive oil. Do not use spices, mayonnaise and fatty sauces. It is very important to chew food thoroughly and never to drink carbonated water. All these rules will help to fans of fast food to reduce the risk of disease.

    Жизнь современных людей протекает в интенсивном темпе, и часто не хватает свободной минуты перекусить. Для таких людей это единственное решение в подобных ситуациях. Поэтому кафе быстрого приготовления очень популярны, и их открывается большое количество в разных местах. Обычно в таких заведениях меню состоит из простых блюд: жареный картофель, салаты, гамбургеры, чизбургеры, молочные коктейли, различные соусы. Вся эта еда опасна для здоровья. Она не содержит витаминов и питательных веществ. В её состав входят красители, вкусовые добавки, ароматизаторы. В ней очень много жира и калорий. У человека нарушается обмен веществ, что в свою очередь приводит к ожирению.
    Если не получается полностью отказаться от фаст-фудов, то следует быть более разборчивыми при выборе меню. Желательно останавливать предпочтение на диетических блюдах, овощных салатах заправленных оливковым маслом. Не использовать специи, майонез и жирные соусы. Очень важно пищу тщательно пережевывать и никогда не запивать газированной водой. Все эти правила помогут снизить риски заболеваний у любителей фаст-фуда.

It takes you just a few minutes to satisfy your hunger. At any time you have a good choice of magnificent burgers, chips of different tastes, delicious pizzas, and fizzy drinks. Popular music you can always hear in these restaurants makes you feel relaxed and happy. Many people take their children to these places.
    But many nutritionists insist that you must not eat in fast food restaurants every day. The most forcible argument is that fast food contains lots of fat and preservatives and no healthy ingredients. Fast food producers use trans fat that keeps its freshness for a long time and prevents spoilage of food. Few people know that trans fat is very injurious to health. It is the cause of such diseases as myocardial ischemia, cancer, nervous disorder, sterility, diabetes.
    What is more, in fast food restaurants we order a lot of fizzy drinks like Coke, Pepsi, Sprite and others. On the one hand, these drinks are very tasty, on the other hand, they are very unhealthy. For example, one little can of cola contains 10 teaspoons of sugar – a maximum dosage for one day. No wonder cola-lovers are so corpulent.
    To sum it up, fast food is an easy solution for people on a busy day. But we should not eat it too much. Every time we drop into fast food restaurants we’d better order vegetable or fruit salads. And it goes without saying that one cup of green tea is much better that a can of cola. Food may heal or kill you. It’s up to you.

But there is another point of view on the problem; others think that fast food is not bad. Who is right? As for me, I think that fast food is very convenient. Now I will try to explain my point of view.
    First of all, if you are hungry and busy, it is better to eat fast food than nothing. Secondly, to eat fast food is quicker. It goes without saying, that to have more free time is very important for businessmen. Finally, it is cheaper to eat fast food, which is very important for teens who usually do not have much pocket money.
    As I said before there is another point of view on the problem. There are people who think fast food is not a good solution for people with busy lives, because it is harmful. The most common argument against this is that there is some healthy food in fast food cafe, for example, various salads. Of course, fast food is a perfect solution for dinner, but when you`re home you need to eat only healthy and full of natural food.
    In conclusion, I can say that I am for fast food for busy people because it is more comfortable for them. To my mind, everybody should make their own choices whether to eat junk or healthy food

    Во-первых, для голодного и занятого человека лучше съесть фастфуд, чем ходить голодным и не иметь сил для какой-либо активности. Во-вторых, обеды в ресторанах быстрого питания отнимают немного времени у людей. Безусловно, наличие свободного времени очень важно для бизнесменов. В-третьих, такие обеды имеют небольшую стоимость, что особенно важно для тинейджеров, не имеющих много карманных денег.
    Как было сказано ранее, есть другая точка зрения. Часть людей считает, что фастфуд вреден и его употребление не является лучшим решением для занятых людей. Я не могу полностью согласиться с этим мнением. Многим известно, что и в кафе быстрого питания можно приобрести полезную, натуральную пищу, например, разнообразные салаты.
    В заключении, хочу сказать, я считаю, употребление фастфуда удобно для современного человека. По-моему, каждый должен сделать для себя выбор: употреблять натуральную пищу или фастфуд.

    more, going to McDonald’s saves much time and effort. I don’t have to go
    to a supermarket, prepare meals and wash the dishes when I eat out.
    Besides, I like the holiday atmosphere of McDonald’s. There I can relax,
    enjoy the food and celebrate some event with my friends and relatives.
    But experts say that fast food makes people overweight and even obese
    and elevates the risk of diabetes and cancer. If your food includes
    hamburgers, chips, hot dogs, pizzas and fizzy drinks like Coke, Pepsi,
    Sprite and others, you are facing a serious problem threatening your
    health. Such food is full of chemical additives. For example, a can of
    Coke contains about eight tea­spoons of sugar and artificial sweeteners.
    Moreover, there is a risk of food poisoning.
    To sum it up, we should think more about our health. We should try to
    avoid fast food and eat more fruit and vegetables. Those people who
    don’t care about what they eat may face serious problems. So let’s
    remember about our health and make the right choice.

    Some people say that genetically modified (GM) food is dangerous to
    their health. Others believe that it is absolutely harmless and has a
    number of advantages. Nowadays people are getting more and more concerned about the food
    they eat as it is closely connected with the way they look and feel.

    modified food.
    Genetically modified crops have been developed by changing the
    plant’s genetic structure in order to help the plant resist against
    different diseases or produce larger crops. Personally, I try not to buy
    GM food as there is no scientific conclusion so far to prove its safety
    for human consumption. We don’t know what unforeseen consequences there
    might be. I prefer not to risk my health because scientists are not
    sure if GM food is absolutely harmless or not.
    However, a lot of people are not worried about the negative influence
    of GM food on their health. Besides, producers of this food say that it
    has a number of advantages in terms of price, durability and
    nutritional value. They also say there is no risk to human health,
    although possi­ble side effects connected with the use of GM products
    have not been studied.
    Can we trust producers of GM food? I don’t think so. Unfortunately,
    in Russia the law does not prohibit the use of GM products. I believe
    that it’s up to you to decide whether to buy GM food or not. Anyway,
    producers of this food must mark their products if they contain GM
    ingredients.

    your food, you will be able to take control of your life.

    Personally, I think that people should eat both meat and fish. Our
    ancestors would not have survived if they hadn’t hunted and fished. Meat
    and fish are nourishing and they contain vitamins that make us
    stronger. Besides, fish is good for our brains.
    However, quite a lot of people say it is cruel to eat animals. They
    feel sorry for pigs, chickens or rabbits that are kept in cages.
    Vegetarians are convinced that killing animals is a crime. So their food
    consists of vegetables, fruit and nuts. They say that such a diet does
    much good to their health and contains all the vitamins, minerals and
    protein they need. But I think that if all people eat only plants, there
    will not be enough food for everybody. What is more, most fruit and
    vegetables are harmful because they are full of pesticides.
    So it is up to you to decide whether to become vegetarian or not.
    Personally, I believe that we should eat different food but at the same
    time we should know where to stop.

People will have to do things more quickly, including meals. The schedule of most people is becoming tougher, so, eventually, they will not have enough time to eat properly. Sandwiches and burgers of various kinds are advertised and sold on every corner, so people cannot resist a temptation of buying one. In the future, the temptation will definitely grow on.
    But there are people who believe that fast food will never dominate home-cooked meal because of its harm to the health. It is common knowledge that this kind of food causes serious illnesses, because it is made mostly from artificial substances.
    Nevertheless I cannot support the opposing opinion because food production is being perfected at a high rate, and future fast food is overwhelmingly likely to consist of healthy ingredients.
    In conclusion, I would like to emphasize the fact that the future is born in the present. If we want to predict what our life will look like in the years to come, we should pay attention to the modern tendencies. As regards our meal, fast food is booming today, which means it will be our basic food tomorrow.

    It’s impossible to imagine American take-away food or snacks without popcorn. Clear as a day, it is made from corn. But what about the first part of the word “pop”. Actually, when you put a kernel of corn on a fire, the water inside makes the corn explode. This makes a “pop” noise. That is why we call it popcorn. It’s an interesting thing to know that not all corn pops. A seed of corn must contain 14% water in it. Other kinds of corn have less waters and do not pop. The American Indians, who popped corn a long time ago, knew that special sort. They introduced corn to the first settlers. In 1620 when Pilgrims had a Thanksgiving dinner they invited the Indians, who brought popcorn with them. Since that time Americans continued to pop corn at home. But in 1945 a new machine was invented that changed the history of the product. The electric machine enabled to pop corn outside the home. And soon movies started selling popcorn to make more money. The famous American habit of eating popcorn at the movies is well-known. Many people like to put salt or melted butter in their popcorn, some prefer to have it without. Either way Americans love their popcorn.

    The Hot Dog

    The original name of the hot dog was the frankfurter, after the German city of Frankfurt. In the United States frankfurters, sausages on buns, were first sold in the 1860s. But for Americans the name “dachshund sausage” seemed to be a good one for the frankfurter. In actual fact, a dachshund is a dog from Germany with a very long body and short legs. Dachshund sausages first became popular in New-York especially at baseball games, where they were sold by men keeping them warm in hot water tanks. The men walked up and down the rows of people and yelled “Get your hot dachshund sausages here!” And in 1906 the newspaper cartoonist Tad Dorgan saw the men with the dachshund sausages and got an idea for a cartoon: he drew a bun with a dachshund inside – not a sausage but a dog. The cartoonist didn’t know how to spell the word “dachshund” and under the picture he just wrote: “Get your hot dogs!” The cartoon was a sensation as well as the name. If you go to a baseball game today, you can still see sellers walking around with hot water tanks and yelling, “Get your hot dogs here! Get your hot dogs here!”

    The Hamburger

    An obligatory item on the list of fast food, the hamburger has no connection to ham, but with the German town of Hamburg, which was famous for its ground steak. German immigrants to the United States introduced the “hamburger steak”. At the St. Louis World’s Fair in 1904, hamburger steaks were served on buns for the first time. It was convenient and tasty and became a usual way of eating hamburgers.
    But how did the hamburgers become the most popular, most typical American food? The introduction of the bun is the important part of the answer. Another important part, due to which hamburgers have become well-known and favourite all around the world is McDonald’s, the fast food restaurant. The first restaurant was opened in San Bernadino, California, in 1949 and hamburgers were the main item on its menu, as well as the hamburger remains the main item in all McDonald’s restaurants today.

    Coca-Cola

    The world famous fresh drink Coca-Cola first was an all-purpose medicine, made in 1886 by a druggist from Atlanta, who made a brown syrup by mixing coca leaves and cola nuts. The syrup wasn’t a success and then another druggist, Jacobs, had an idea of selling Coca-Cola as a soda fountain drink. He mixed the syrup with soda water. Soon everyone was going to soda fountains and asking for Coca-Cola. An immigrant from Ireland, Asa Candler bought the recipe of the drink and having registered the company, became its father in 1892. In 1899 the first bottling factory was opened. The shaped bottle, as we know it today was invented in 1916 to protect the trademark. And again the World War II helped to make Coca-Cola popular outside America, when the Coca-Cola Company sent bottles of the drink to US soldiers fighting in Europe. It became so popular with the soldiers that the US Army asked the company to start ten factories in Europe. It’s a curious thing but from 1903 coca leaves were no longer used in the drink. The exact ingredients and the quantities are not known – the Coca-Cola Company keeps its recipe a secret.

    Fast food is
    very popular and saves time for busy working people. However,
    many experts say that it is not completely healthy.

    Do you know a
    person who has never been to McDonald’s? McDonald’s is the
    leading global foodservice retailer serving millions of people
    in more than 100 countries each day. McDonald’s restaurants sell
    what is called “fast” or “junk” food — hamburgers, chips and so
    on. Such food is very popular, especially with children and
    teenagers.
    Personally, I
    adore hamburgers, cheeseburgers, apple pies, muffins and fruit
    cocktails. This food is tasty, cheap and ubiquitous. What is
    more, going to McDonald’s saves much time and effort. I don’t
    have to go to a supermarket, prepare meals and wash the dishes
    when I eat
    out. Besides, I like the holiday atmosphere of McDonald’s. There
    I can relax, enjoy the food and celebrate some event with my
    friends and relatives.
    But experts say
    that fast food makes people overweight and even obese and
    elevates the risk of diabetes and cancer. If your food includes
    hamburgers, chips, hot dogs, pizzas and fizzy drinks like Coke,
    Pepsi, Sprite and others, you are facing a serious problem
    threatening your health. Such food is full of chemical
    additives. For example, a can of Coke contains about eight
    teaspoons of sugar and artificial sweeteners. Moreover, there is
    a risk of food poisoning.
    To sum it up, we
    should think more about our health. We should try to avoid fast
    food and eat more fruit and vegetables. Those people who don’t
    care about what they eat may face serious problems. So let’s
    remember about our health and make the right choice.
    Some people
    say that genetically modified (GM) food is dangerous to their
    health. Others believe that it is absolutely harmless and has a
    number of advantages.

    Nowadays people
    are getting more and more concerned about the food they eat as
    it is closely connected with the way they look and feel. That is
    why there are so many arguments about the safety of genetically
    modified food.
    Genetically
    modified crops have been developed by changing the plant’s
    genetic structure in order to help the plant resist against
    different diseases or produce larger crops. Personally, I try
    not to buy GM food as there is no scientific conclusion so far
    to prove its safety for human consumption. We don’t know what
    unforeseen consequences there might be. I prefer not to risk my
    health because scientists are not sure if GM food is absolutely
    harmless or not.
    However, a lot of
    people are not worried about the negative influence of GM food
    on their health. Besides, producers of this food say that it has
    a number of advantages in terms of price, durability and
    nutritional value. They also say there is no risk to human
    health, although possible side effects connected with the use of
    GM products have not been studied.
    Can we trust
    producers of GM food? I don’t think so. Unfortunately, in Russia
    the law does not prohibit the use of GM products. I believe that
    it’s up to you to decide whether to buy GM food or not. Anyway,
    producers of this food must mark their products if they contain
    GM ingredients.
    Some people
    say that food is our friend, while others think that it may
    become an enemy.

    Can we live
    without food? The answer is definitely “no”. Food is essential
    to our body which is continually wasting and requires new
    energy. Experts say that food has some special powers that can
    control our lives, for better or for worse.
    To my mind, food
    is our friend if it is healthy and taken with due regard to the
    exercise and waste of the body. I believe that if you eat the
    right food, you can manage your mood and boost your brainpower.
    For example, when I feel blue, I treat myself to a bar of
    chocolate or an ice-cream and become more cheerful and
    energetic. When I am to take a test, I eat a handful of nuts or
    a banana because such food helps me concentrate.
    However,
    sometimes food may become a real enemy. Unfortunately, some
    people don’t pay attention to what they eat. If their diet
    includes fast food and fizzy drinks, they can do much harm to
    their health. People who are fond of hamburgers and Coca-Cola
    often suffer from diabetes, cancer and tooth decay. Moreover,
    they may become overweight and even obese.
    To sum up, food
    that contains vitamins gives you a psychological lift and helps
    you improve your health. But food that has a hefty amount of
    chemical additives, fat, sugar or caffeine makes you fat and
    draws energy away from your brain. I strongly feel that if you
    take control of your food, you will be able to take control of
    your life.
    Nowadays more
    and more people become vegetarians. Others say they can’t do
    without meat or fish.

    Being a
    vegetarian is rather popular nowadays. Some people say they
    don’t eat meat and fish because it is healthy. Others follow the
    example of their favourite actor or musician. Is it worth
    becoming a vegetarian?
    Personally, I
    think that people should eat both meat and fish. Our ancestors
    would not have survived if they hadn’t hunted and fished. Meat
    and fish are nourishing and they contain vitamins that make us
    stronger. Besides, fish is good for our brains.
    However, quite a
    lot of people say it is cruel to eat animals. They feel sorry
    for pigs, chickens or rabbits that are kept in cages.
    Vegetarians are convinced that killing animals is a crime. So
    their food consists of vegetables, fruit and nuts. They say that
    such a diet does much good to their health and contains all the
    vitamins, minerals and protein they need. But I think that if
    all people eat only plants, there will not be enough food for
    everybody. What is more, most fruit and vegetables are harmful
    because they are full of pesticides.
    So it is up to
    you to decide whether to become vegetarian or not. Personally, I
    believe that we should eat different food but at the same time
    we should know where to stop.

    What is fast food and why is it so popular?
    Fast food refers to food that can be prepared and served quickly. Fast food restaurants usually have a walk up counter or drive-thru window where you order and pick up your food.
    Some recognizable fast food restaurants are: 1.Burger restaurants: McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy’s, In and Out Burger. 2.Soup and sandwich shops: Panera Bread, Au Bon Pain, Subway. 3.Southern cooking: KFC, Long John Silvers, Popeye’s. 4.Coffee shops: Dunkin’ Donuts, Starbucks. 5.Mexican chains: Taco Bell, Chipotle, Qdoba. 6.Chinese and Asian restaurants: Panda Express 7.Pizzerias: Dominos, Papa Johns, Sbarro, Pizza Hut.
    Fast food restaurants are popular because they serve filling foods that taste good and don’t cost a lot of money. However, fast food is usually cheap because it’s often made with cheaper ingredients such as high fat meat, refined grains, and added sugar and fats, instead of nutritious foods such as lean meats, fresh fruits, and vegetables.
    Is fast food bad?
    There is no such thing as a “bad” food, but there are some foods you should try not to have on a regular basis. Because fast food is high in sodium, saturated fat, trans fat, and cholesterol, eating too much over a long period of time can lead to health problems such as high blood pressure, heart disease, and obesity. Fast food also lacks many of the nutrients, vitamins, and minerals our bodies need. It’s helpful to remember that with fast food, moderation is important.
    Is some fast food healthier than others?
    Many fast food chains are changing their menus so there are more healthy options to choose from. For example, some chains no longer serve foods with trans fat, and many have menu items that contain fruits and vegetables. If you’re having fast food more than once a week, try to make healthier choices. Here are some tips:
    Go light on the toppings.
    Added toppings usually mean more sodium or unhealthy fats. To lighten up your meal without taking away flavor: Don’t overdo the salad dressing. Choose oil-based dressings such as Italian or balsamic vinaigrette instead of creamy salad dressings such as blue cheese and ranch which are high in saturated fat. Use mustard or ketchup instead of mayonnaise. When ordering pizza, add veggies instead of meat, and get thin crust instead of deep dish. Top your sandwiches with veggies such as onions, lettuce, and tomatoes instead of bacon or extra cheese. Don’t add more salt to your meal. Salt is a major contributor to high blood pressure and heart disease and fast food tends to be loaded with it.
    Know how your food is made.
    The way a meal is made says a lot about how healthy it will be. In general, follow these rules: Choose foods that are broiled, steamed or grilled over fried such as a grilled chicken sandwich instead of fried chicken or chicken nuggets and steamed vegetables instead of French fries. Choose soups that are not cream based. For example: If the name of the soup includes the word cream, such as “Creamy Tomato Soup”, don’t order it. Dishes labeled deep-fried, pan-fried, basted, breaded, creamy, crispy, scalloped, Alfredo, or in cream sauce are usually high in calories, unhealthy fats or sodium. When ordering a sub or sandwich, select lean meats such as turkey or grilled chicken instead of items such as burgers, steak, or cheese sandwiches. Ask for sauces or dressings that come with meals to be served on the side and use just a small amount.
