The 1st of September is a national holiday in Russia and in several other countries of the former USSR: Belarus, Ukraine, Armenia, Kazakhstan, etc. It is traditionally called “the Knowledge Day” and dedicated to schoolchildren beginning the academic year, to their parents, and teachers.

The 1st of September is a national holiday in Russia and in several other countries of the former USSR: Belarus, Ukraine, Armenia, Kazakhstan, etc. It is traditionally called “the Knowledge Day” and dedicated to schoolchildren beginning the academic year, to their parents, and teachers.

However, the Knowledge Day became an official holiday only in 1984.

Usually, Russian schools have a special schedule on this day: there are no lessons, especially for junior classes, just festive events. They wish to first-graders an interesting and successful school life. As a sign of gratitude and respect, students give flowers and chocolate to their teachers. The main symbols of the Knowledge Day are the bell with red ribbon and its joyful ringing. As for students of senior classes, colleges, and universities, on September 1 they study but congratulate professors as well.

The academic year in other countries starts on different dates: in late August or in early September in the USA, on September 2 or 3 in France, on April 1 in Japan, etc. Nevertheless, it is, in any case, an important and exciting day for students of all nationalities.

I have many friends in my class and I really love them and appreciate our friendship. That’s why I can say that September 1 is one of my favorite days in a year. After long summer holidays I am always happy to see them all again at school. We meet each other, talk, hug each other, share positive emotions and memories about summer.
As you understand September 1 children in my country go to school. Usually we have ceremonial celebration in the morning with all pupils and teachers and after that we meet with the tutor and classmate to discuss next year. I am always so surprised how much people can change during 3 summer months. We become elder, wiser, stronger and more beautiful and handsome. I am also so happy to see my teachers and other workers from school.
Usually for me September 1 is the day when I start new life. My mom buys for me new nice clothes, bag, exercise books and pens. I get a good motivation to study more and more. Actually I have good results because in future I am planning to go to university. That’s why I am doing my best to succeed in all subjects. My favorite ones are English, History, Russian and Physical Education. I strongly believe that for many other pupils that is a special day.
Sometime I feel little bit sad because a Day of Knowledge is also a first day of autumn. Every year we become elder and personally I miss childhood.
My mom says that in future I will miss school life and this day will remain in my mind forever. She was also a very smart girl at school and really enjoy that life. That’s why she became a teacher. The First of September
We call September 1 the National Day of Knowledge and celebrate it in all parts of our country. Teachers, pupils and their parents gather at the schoolyards in the morning of this day. There can be different performances and concerts dedicated to this holiday. The principles of the schools speak of the importance of education and congratulate pupils and teachers. After that, pupils give flowers to the teachers to congratulate them with this holiday and to thank them for their work, patience and energy.
It is also the beginning of the new academic year in institutes and universities.
Students and tutors congratulate each other; sometimes they also have performances or meetings at the Assembly Halls of institutes.
Knowledge is very important in modern life because it helps a people to choose a future profession, to work well and with pleasure. Education not only gives us new knowledge, but also shows us how to work together with other people, in most of professions teamwork is very important.

Every year on the first day of September millions of children across the world wear new uniforms, buy a bunch of flowers for their teachers and go to school. In many countries it’s the start of the academic year, which is an important day in students’ life. They understand that the new school year begins and want to make it pass more successfully that the previous one. Each pupil or student dreams of new achievements in different fields. That’s why, in my opinion, September 1st is an important day for children, their parents and teachers, of course. In Russia it’s the National Day of Knowledge. There are always festive events planned in advance. A day before that children get ready to meet their classmates and teachers. They prepare neat clothes and their backpack. Some of them get ready to perform in front of the audience, singing, dancing or citing some wishes to the youngest generation. On the 1st of September they get up early and make all the necessary preparations. Together with parents they go to school to see the opening ceremony and to participate in the holiday concert. Usually there are no lessons on this day, except for one meeting with the form tutor. He or she distributes the new textbooks to students and introduces their timetable. After the meeting the students are free to do whatever they like. Some of them run to play at the school playground, other choose to walk with their friends in the park. In any case, there are plenty of things to do in the city on September 1. There are concerts in the central square, theatrical performances, merry-go-rounds and all sorts of entertainment.

I got up at 7 o`clock on the first of September this year. I went to the bathroom and washed myself. Then I put my new school uniform on. I like it very much because it`s very nice. My mum likes it too.
After that I went to the kitchen and had breakfast. For breakfast I drank a cup of sweet tea and ate some bread and butter. Usually I don`t eat a lot for breafast.
After breakfast I took nice flowers and went to school with my friend. I was happy to meet my classmates and my new teacher. I liked the teacher very much. She looked fine and was very kind. My classmates and I gave her the flowers.
We had only one lesson on the first of September but we didn`t get any homework. We were glad to talk with each other about our summer holidays during the lesson.
On my way home my friends and I bought some ice cream. It was very tasty.
At home we had a big holiday cake and even my cat liked it.
I was a little tired this day and went to bed at 9 o`clock.
