New Year in Russia is the most awaited, beautiful and fabulous holiday. Every year, Russians celebrate it on the night of December 31 to January 1. New Year is a great holiday in our country. Everybody likes it very much, especially little children. People don’t go to work on that day, and children don’t go to school. New Year is considered a family holiday and is usually celebrated at home.

I think New Year’s is a holiday that everyone celebrates but will not be celebrated on the same day of each year. It is a celebration which combines the excitement of the Fourth of July, thanksgiving, Christmas and the beginning of spring as well as the New Year. The traditional Vietnamese calendar runs in cycles of twelve years. A genie, in the form of an animal figure, dominates each year. They are in the following order: mouse, buffalo, tiger, cat, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, cock, dog, and hog. I am sure for many children in the world New Year is the most important holiday in the year. So many months children behave so well because at night December 31 Santa Clause will come and bring many presents for them. That was my childhood and I was so happy at that time. That was like a miracle for me.
Today everything has changed, but I still believe in magic of New Year’s night. Now it has become a family holiday. My elder brother works and lives in another country, but for Christmas he always comes back to celebrate with us.
Me and my mom cook a wonderful dinner, give presents to each other and watch TV programs. I like how everything changes on these days. There is snow and frost outside and all my family is together how it used to be in my childhood.
I like to prepare presents for everybody. I start to collect money few months before Christmas and New Year, so I can buy everything I want to. Last year I bought nice sweaters with deer for the whole family and we met New Year in new clothes. Basically we have a tradition to celebrate each year in new piece of clothes.
This year I have decided to buy a beautiful photo album and organize all our family pictures. My mom always wanted to do it, but had no time.
We decorate a Christmas tree all together. At night December 24 we all are having Christmas dinner and after start to decorate our house. Because my brother travels a lot I ask him to bring toys for Christmas tree from different countries. And every year I put all of them on my beautiful tree.
We have many interesting traditions and I will always take care about them. Every year at night December 31 I make a wish to see all my family together again next year. And my wish always comes true. It’s like a little miracle and I will always believe in magic of New Year.

In life there is a place to a positive miracle. Sincere, genuine and improbable! Because the magic is when words are added in rhyme… Verses also turn out. Magic is when usual packing of oil paints turns on a canvas to a surprising landscape. Magic – it happens. It can`t be planned. It is always. It is necessary not to wait for miracles, and simply to trust in them. After all they trap us continually.
You would like a little more magic on New Year`s? Then it is necessary to go and buy all gifts. And then to be at home at the TV with a cup of coffee and to wrap them in celebratory packing, without feeling sorry for bright paints and spangles …

We always celebrate New Year at home. A week before the holiday we begin to decorate our house with lights and garlands. We also put up a New Year tree and decorate it with balls, cones, icicles and other toys, tinsel and lights. Under the tree we usually put statuettes of Father Frost and Snow Maiden. We put New Year presents there too.
On the 31st of December we always cook salads. My mother usually roasts meat and boils potatoes. She always bakes our favourite Napoleon cake. We watch New Year programmes and films on TV.
At about ten o’clock we all sit down at the table and have a meal. Just before midnight we light sparklers and my father opens a bottle of champagne. We watch the president’s speech on TV, and then while the clock is striking midnight, we make wishes and drink champagne. After that we go to the balcony to watch fireworks.
When we come back into the room we open our presents. I usually get a lot of presents for the New Year. And I always try to give presents to my parents, grandparents and friends.

New Year in Russia is the most awaited, beautiful and fabulous holiday. Every year, Russians celebrate it on the night of December 31 to January 1. Does everyone celebrate the New Year? Does the celebration fall in the same day each year? I think New Year’s is a holiday that everyone celebrates but will not be celebrated on the same day of each year. It is a celebration which combines the excitement of the Fourth of July, thanksgiving, Christmas and the beginning of spring as well as the New Year. The traditional Vietnamese calendar runs in cycles of twelve years. A genie, in the form of an animal figure, dominates each year. They are in the following order: mouse, buffalo, tiger, cat, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, cock, dog, and hog. As the old year gives way to the new year, the ruling genie quietly bows out to the next genie. В нашей семье самым любимым праздником считается Новый год. В начале декабря у всех появляется праздничное настроение. В городе украшают улицы и витрины магазинов яркими, разноцветными гирляндами. А на главной площади устанавливают огромную ёлку. Мы начинаем готовиться к празднику. На новогодних ярмарках покупаем друг другу подарки, ёлочные игрушки и мишуру. В конце декабря дома устанавливаем искусственную ёлку и наряжаем её к празднику. 31 декабря я помогаю маме приготовить праздничный стол. Новогодняя ночь кажется мне всегда волшебной и незабываемой. В полночь, после выступления президента по телевизору, начинают бить куранты. Мы поздравляем друг друга с новым годом и загадываем желание, а потом обмениваемся подарками. Когда я была маленькая, то подарки находила под ёлкой и думала, что их мне принёс Дед Мороз. И хоть я уже взрослая, и не верю, что существует Дед Мороз, но в новогоднюю ночь хочется оказаться в сказке и поверить в чудо.
I am sure for many children in the world New Year is the most important holiday in the year. So many months children behave so well because at night December 31 Santa Clause will come and bring many presents for them. That was my childhood and I was so happy at that time. That was like a miracle for me.
Today everything has changed, but I still believe in magic of New Year’s night. Now it has become a family holiday. My elder brother works and lives in another country, but for Christmas he always comes back to celebrate with us.
Me and my mom cook a wonderful dinner, give presents to each other and watch TV programs. I like how everything changes on these days. There is snow and frost outside and all my family is together how it used to be in my childhood.
I like to prepare presents for everybody. I start to collect money few months before Christmas and New Year, so I can buy everything I want to. Last year I bought nice sweaters with deer for the whole family and we met New Year in new clothes. Basically we have a tradition to celebrate each year in new piece of clothes.
This year I have decided to buy a beautiful photo album and organize all our family pictures. My mom always wanted to do it, but had no time.
We decorate a Christmas tree all together. At night December 24 we all are having Christmas dinner and after start to decorate our house. Because my brother travels a lot I ask him to bring toys for Christmas tree from different countries. And every year I put all of them on my beautiful tree.
We have many interesting traditions and I will always take care about them. Every year at night December 31 I make a wish to see all my family together again next year. And my wish always comes true. It’s like a little miracle and I will always believe in magic of New Year.

Сегодня все изменилось, но я все так же верю в магию новогодней ночи. Теперь это мой любимый семейный праздник в году. Мой старший брат работает и живет в другой стране, но каждый год в канун Рождества он приезжает праздновать Новый год с нами.
Мы с мамой готовим чудесный праздничный ужин, дарим друг другу подарки и смотрим новогодние передачи. Мне очень нравится, как все вокруг меняется в это время. Снег и мороз на улице, а дома вся моя семья в полном сборе, как это было в детстве.
Мне очень нравится готовить подарки для всей семьи. Обычно я начинаю копить деньги за несколько месяцев до Рождества и Нового года. Поэтому я могу купить подарок каждому. В прошлом году я купила красивые свитера с оленями для всей семьи. Так мы встретили Новый год в новой одежде. Так у нас появилась традиция одевать что-то новое в новогоднюю ночь.
В этом году я решала купить красивый фотоальбом и разложить аккуратно каждый снимок. Моя мама давно хотела сделать семейный альбом, но у неё все не хватало времени.
Каждый год мы наряжаем ёлку всей семьёй. Вечером 24 декабря мы накрываем праздничный стол, а потом украшаем дом. Так как мой брат путешествует по разным странам, я всегда прошу его привести мне ёлочные украшения из разных мест. И каждый год я наряжаю ими нашу ёлку.
У нас много интересных семейных традиций и я хочу сберечь каждую для своей семьи. Каждую новогоднюю ночь я загадываю желание, чтобы и следующий год отметить всей семьёй. И мое желание всегда исполняется. А это словно маленькое чудо, которое позволяет мне верить в магию новогодней ночи.

This night, fireworks everywhere blow up, and the sky lights up with a round dance of the color sparks similar to fantastic fairies from any forgotten children`s cartoon film, and habitual and simultaneously strange silhouettes of fur-trees through glasses look brilliant multi-colored eyes of spheres. It almost as is fantastic, as Santa Claus who has climbed through a window leaf. In the world smells like a holiday…
In life there is a place to a positive miracle. Sincere, genuine and improbable! Because the magic is when words are added in rhyme… Verses also turn out. Magic is when usual packing of oil paints turns on a canvas to a surprising landscape. Magic – it happens. It can`t be planned. It is always. It is necessary not to wait for miracles, and simply to trust in them. After all they trap us continually.
You would like a little more magic on New Year`s? Then it is necessary to go and buy all gifts. And then to be at home at the TV with a cup of coffee and to wrap them in celebratory packing, without feeling sorry for bright paints and spangles …

We always celebrate New Year at home. A week before the holiday we begin to decorate our house with lights and garlands. We also put up a New Year tree and decorate it with balls, cones, icicles and other toys, tinsel and lights. Under the tree we usually put statuettes of Father Frost and Snow Maiden. We put New Year presents there too.
On the 31st of December we always cook salads. My mother usually roasts meat and boils potatoes. She always bakes our favourite Napoleon cake. We watch New Year programmes and films on TV.
At about ten o’clock we all sit down at the table and have a meal. Just before midnight we light sparklers and my father opens a bottle of champagne. We watch the president’s speech on TV, and then while the clock is striking midnight, we make wishes and drink champagne. After that we go to the balcony to watch fireworks.
When we come back into the room we open our presents. I usually get a lot of presents for the New Year. And I always try to give presents to my parents, grandparents and friends.

As for me, I start thinking of New Year presents at the beginning of December. I usually prepare handmade postcards for people I love and value. They say that I make fantastic postcards. That’s because I attended some scrapbooking classes several years ago.
Starting from the end of November all the shops, offices and other places in the street wear special, festive decorations and remind a fairy tale. As for my family, we start decorating the house in the middle of December.
My father usually buys a tall fir-tree and sets it up in the living-room. My brother and I happily decorate it with bright thematic toys, garlands and confetti.
For the New Year feast my mum cooks special dishes. Every year, on the 31st of December there are plenty of sweet cookies, some vegetable salads, a roasted chicken and a bottle of champagne on our table.
At midnight my dad fills everyone’s glasses with champagne and says the toast to welcome the coming year. We also turn on the TV to hear the chimes of the Kremlin. At the same time I know that somewhere in London my English penfriend listens to the chimes of famous Big Ben.
