In recent years social media has become deeply integrated in our everyday lives. The concept of social media itself includes several categories: blogs, live journals, forums, chats, dating sites and, of course, social networking sites or SNS. Essentially, they all are platforms for people’s remote communication, i.e. exchange of different types of information: text messages, music, photo and video content. The most popular with the young people are social networking sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vkontakte and so on. On the one hand, a social network is a very convenient tool for a quick message exchange, searching for old friends and making new acquaintances, keeping important information and discussing pressing issues in groups, right in the comfort of one’s home. On the other hand, psychologists and psychiatrists of the world ring alarm bells: social networking addiction too often becomes the cause of serious mental and nervous disorders, such as depression, social isolation, autism, and even suicide attempts of teenagers and young people. To my mind, social networking sites can be both useful and dangerous depending on who and how uses them. And I want to try to analyze their advantages and disadvantages.

I think that nowadays English studying is a very important phenomenon. English language became an international language. English occupies leading position among such languages as Russian, Chinese, Spanish, Arabic and French – it is the official languages of the UN. All large companies such as air and sea companies use this language. I guess that in future all people will speak English. My mother says that every educated person should know foreign language or may be some foreign languages. I think that people who know English can visit different countries without problems, because English gives a possibility to communicate with foreign people. Today many people study English. Some of them because of work necessity, they need to make agreements and many different documents. Also a lot of people travel abroad. And for other people language studying is a hobby. They just want to wide their outlook.
My father says that English is widespread. English is a very useful language, because, 80 percent of communications between a person and a computer are in English. Also, nearly half of all business deals in Europe are conducted in English. I guess that English is studied as foreign language in many schools all over the world.
As for me, I study English because I want to be an interpreter. I guess that it is an interesting work. If you work as an interpreter you can met new people, communicate with them and make friend with some of them. Also I study English because I want to understand many people from different countries, I want to read English books in the original, I want to listen songs of foreign groups and to understand them, I want to watch different TV programs. I think that in future I`ll get a possibility to visit USA or England. It would be interesting experience. I like to study English. I like to find out the origin of words, also I like to compare English and Russian words, often they are almost identical. English studying is very interesting and informative.

English is the native language for more than 300 million people on our earth. But nowadays it is widely used not only in those countries where it is a first language. A lot of countries (such as China, Russia, Thailand and many others) have recognized the importance of this language recently as an international means of communication. English is taught in all schools and colleges there. In Russia itself English is gathering pace as a popular second language.
There are also some countries (such as India, Singapore, Pakistan, the Philippines and some African countries) where English is an official second language and it is often used in mass media, courts, parliaments and universities.
Today English is used almost everywhere. It is the language of banking and industry, computers and trade, technology and science. English as an international language helps people of different nationalities from around the world discuss politics or arrange business meetings. For example, German and Italian businessmen can choose English as their mutual language of communication.
More and more people from non-English speaking countries start learning the language and using it in their daily life, business and travelling. Tourism development has contributed much to English becoming the universal means of communication. However some linguists hold the opinion that the globalization of English as an international language can be quite harmful for the language itself because foreign speakers greatly influence its grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary.

The mass media play an important part in our lives. Newspapers, radio and especially TV inform us of what is going on in this world and give us wonderful possibilities for education and entertainment. They also influence the way we see the world and shape our views.
Of course, not all newspapers and TV programmes report the events objectively, but serious journalists and TV reporters try to be fair and provide us with reliable information.
It is true that the world today is full of dramatic events and most news seems to be bad news. But people aren’t interested in ordinary events. Still, many people prefer the radio. It’s good to listen to in the car, or in the open air, or when you do something about the house.
Newspapers don’t react to events as quickly as TV, but they usually provide us with extra detail, comment and background information.
The Internet has recently become another important source of information. Its main advantage is that news appears on the screen as soon as things happen in real life and you don’t have to wait for news time on TV.

Nowadays the Internet is affordable almost for anyone and it connects people all around the world. You can stay in touch with your friends, relatives and colleagues. Our modern life will stop without the net because it helps to make on-line business transactions, manage our bank accounts, pay our gas or electricity bills and send important e-mails, for example.
The Internet is the largest source of information. There are millions of Internet sites storing plenty of useful data about everything: science, history, psychology, sports, fashion, music, cooking and many other subjects. We can also download our favourite movies or songs, listen to radio channels or play games. Learning or practising foreign languages is possible with the Internet too.
The Internet saves our time and money. We can do on-line shopping choosing the desirable thing at the best price. And then we just click “Order the delivery”. By the way, we can also sell various things in the net. We often don’t need to go to the library: surfing the net can easily help us to find and open the book we need. Buying stamps and envelopes isn’t required if you’re going to send an e-mail. It takes just a few seconds to send an instant message by e-mail.
The Internet helps shy people or those with low-esteem to find each other on dating sites. On-line chatting through social networking websites is more comfortable for Internet users with the lack of social skills.
I am sure that the Internet has changed our life for the better. Everyone knows that the Internet has become very important in our life, and now we can’t imagine our life without visiting our pages in social networks at least once a week. On the one hand, it is good because we can chat with a cousin that runs practice in another country, or former classmates with whom we can’t find time to meet…
And all it we can do without leaving home. However, the effect of social networks on the person worries scientists from around the world more and more. The results of their scientific research are quite disappointing. Let’s try to understand what is good and what is bad concerning social networks. As for me, I think that social networks are a great danger for modern society.
Let me introduce my arguments. Firstly, people have a certain dependence on online social networks. They need to constantly check: whether they have increased their rating, who has rated their photos, and who has added as his new virtual friend. Secondly, people wean off live communication and get more adapted to the virtual one. They express their emotions through “smiles”, and that is the most terrible, they allow themselves too much greater freedom and irresponsibility for their words. Thirdly, people sitting in front of screens or using their devices to talk “online” waste much time which could be spent with much use. They could go out with their friends, walk in fresh air, and not spoil their eyesight in front of computer monitors. They might work, and, in fact, it isn’t so difficult to start a new acquaintance jogging in the park…
But other people have their own opinion on this problem. They believe that social networks are useful and even necessary for some segments of society. People with disabilities have an opportunity to communicate with other people and express their points of view while in real life they are deprived of the freedom of action. They can’t meet with someone in the park or share phones with the same fan of the music group met at their concert as healthy people do. For most of these people communicating in a social network is the only way not be alone in this world, have buddies and associates, even in the Internet and hundreds of miles away.
I can’t completely disagree with this point of view, but when it comes to healthy people, who is caught in non-existent images and lost amongst the fictional friends? They certainly need to be rescued…

В-третьих, люди просиживая за экранами девайсов много часов и общаясь в режиме “онлайн” могли бы с гораздо большей пользой провести потраченные в пустую часы. Они могли бы пойти погулять на улицу, подышать свежим воздухом, а не ухудшать свое зрение перед монитором компьютера; могли бы заняться спортом, а ведь не так уж и сложно завести новое знакомство, совершая пробежку по парку…
Но другие люди имеют свое мнение по поводу затрагиваемой проблемы. Они считают, что социальные сети полезны и даже необходимы для некоторых слоев общества. Благодаря им, люди-инвалиды имеют возможность общаться и выражать свою позицию. В реальной жизни они, к сожалению, лишены такой свободы действий. Они не могут встретиться с кем-то в парке или обменяться номерами телефонов с одним из фанатов музыкальной группы, встретившись на их концерте, так как это могут здоровые люди. Для большинства таких людей общение в социальных сетях является единственным способом не остаться одному в этом мире, иметь собеседников и единомышленников, даже по интернету, не смотря на разделяющие их сотни километров.
Я не могу не согласиться с этой точкой зрения, но если речь идет о здоровых людях, которые запутываются в несуществующих образах и теряются среди вымышленных друзей, то их непременно надо спасать…
В заключение я хотела бы подчеркнуть, что социальные сети действительно занимают важное место в жизни большинства современных людей, но вопрос в том: сколько раз в день человек общается виртуально и не заменяет ли это ему реальное общение? Если вы прочитали и ответили на эти вопросы «да», то вам не о чем беспокоиться, но если иначе … Лично я советую вам: отключитесь от всех чатов, по крайней мере, на несколько часов, и выйдите на прогулку… Это будет здорово! I think that nowadays English studying is a very important phenomenon. English language became an international language. English occupies leading position among such languages as Russian, Chinese, Spanish, Arabic and French – it is the official languages of the UN. All large companies such as air and sea companies use this language. I guess that in future all people will speak English. My mother says that every educated person should know foreign language or may be some foreign languages. I think that people who know English can visit different countries without problems, because English gives a possibility to communicate with foreign people. Today many people study English. Some of them because of work necessity, they need to make agreements and many different documents. Also a lot of people travel abroad. And for other people language studying is a hobby. They just want to wide their outlook.
My father says that English is widespread. English is a very useful language, because, 80 percent of communications between a person and a computer are in English. Also, nearly half of all business deals in Europe are conducted in English. I guess that English is studied as foreign language in many schools all over the world.
As for me, I study English because I want to be an interpreter. I guess that it is an interesting work. If you work as an interpreter you can met new people, communicate with them and make friend with some of them. Also I study English because I want to understand many people from different countries, I want to read English books in the original, I want to listen songs of foreign groups and to understand them, I want to watch different TV programs. I think that in future I`ll get a possibility to visit USA or England. It would be interesting experience. I like to study English. English is the native language for more than 300 million people on our earth. But nowadays it is widely used not only in those countries where it is a first language. A lot of countries (such as China, Russia, Thailand and many others) have recognized the importance of this language recently as an international means of communication. Our modern life will stop without the net because it helps to make on-line business transactions, manage our bank accounts, pay our gas or electricity bills and send important e-mails, for example.
The Internet is the largest source of information. There are millions of Internet sites storing plenty of useful data about everything: science, history, psychology, sports, fashion, music, cooking and many other subjects. We can also download our favourite movies or songs, listen to radio channels or play games. Learning or practising foreign languages is possible with the Internet too.
The Internet saves our time and money. We can do on-line shopping choosing the desirable thing at the best price. And then we just click “Order the delivery”. By the way, we can also sell various things in the net. We often don’t need to go to the library: surfing the net can easily help us to find and open the book we need. Buying stamps and envelopes isn’t required if you’re going to send an e-mail. It takes just a few seconds to send an instant message by e-mail.

English is the language of politics and diplomacy, science and technology, business and trade, sport and pop music. 80% of all information in the world’s computers is in English. 75% of the world’s letters and faxes are in English. 60% of all international telephone calls are made in English. More than 60% of all scientific journals are written in English.
To know English today is absolutely necessary for every educated person, for every good specialist. Learning a language is not an easy thing. It’s a long and slow process that takes a lot of time and patience. But it’s a must.
English is taught throughout the world and a lot of people speak it quite well. In our country English is very popular: it is studied at schools (sometimes even at nursery schools), colleges and universities.
Everyone will speak English soon — I’m sure of it. We all need to understand each other. To do that we need an international language, and that’s English.

The results of their scientific research are quite disappointing. Let’s try to understand what is good and what is bad concerning social networks. As for me, I think that social networks are a great danger for modern society.
Let me introduce my arguments. Firstly, people have a certain dependence on online social networks. They need to constantly check: whether they have increased their rating, who has rated their photos, and who has added as his new virtual friend. Secondly, people wean off live communication and get more adapted to the virtual one. They express their emotions through “smiles”, and that is the most terrible, they allow themselves too much greater freedom and irresponsibility for their words. Thirdly, people sitting in front of screens or using their devices to talk “online” waste much time which could be spent with much use. They could go out with their friends, walk in fresh air, and not spoil their eyesight in front of computer monitors. They might work, and, in fact, it isn’t so difficult to start a new acquaintance jogging in the park…
But other people have their own opinion on this problem. They believe that social networks are useful and even necessary for some segments of society. People with disabilities have an opportunity to communicate with other people and express their points of view while in real life they are deprived of the freedom of action. They can’t meet with someone in the park or share phones with the same fan of the music group met at their concert as healthy people do. For most of these people communicating in a social network is the only way not be alone in this world, have buddies and associates, even in the Internet and hundreds of miles away.

Но другие люди имеют свое мнение по поводу затрагиваемой проблемы. Они считают, что социальные сети полезны и даже необходимы для некоторых слоев общества. Благодаря им, люди-инвалиды имеют возможность общаться и выражать свою позицию. В реальной жизни они, к сожалению, лишены такой свободы действий. Они не могут встретиться с кем-то в парке или обменяться номерами телефонов с одним из фанатов музыкальной группы, встретившись на их концерте, так как это могут здоровые люди. Для большинства таких людей общение в социальных сетях является единственным способом не остаться одному в этом мире, иметь собеседников и единомышленников, даже по интернету, не смотря на разделяющие их сотни километров.
Я не могу не согласиться с этой точкой зрения, но если речь идет о здоровых людях, которые запутываются в несуществующих образах и теряются среди вымышленных друзей, то их непременно надо спасать…
В заключение я хотела бы подчеркнуть, что социальные сети действительно занимают важное место в жизни большинства современных людей, но вопрос в том: сколько раз в день человек общается виртуально и не заменяет ли это ему реальное общение? Если вы прочитали и ответили на эти вопросы «да», то вам не о чем беспокоиться, но если иначе … Лично я советую вам: отключитесь от всех чатов, по крайней мере, на несколько часов, и выйдите на прогулку… Это будет здорово! Before the invention of such quantity of means of communication, people more frequently walked with each other and went to visit one another. Thereby they exchanged some information face to face. You could perceive different emotions of your interlocutor. If you talk about something important and valuable, you can understand by expression of face if this information is pleasant or not, surprising or not, and may be even shocking.
There are both positive and negative sides of such plenty of means of communication. If you need to know interesting information, you can just take a phone and call some person. The cell-phone is very helpful in daily life, because it is always with you. At any time you can call anywhere in the country and abroad. Previously, people had to write letters. It is a very tedious and long process. Firstly, you had to write it on paper; secondly, to buy an envelope with stamps; thirdly, to put it inside and take it to the post. Yet we shouldnot forget that the posted letter would get to your destination in a few days or even weeks.
Currently, there are a lot of resources on the Internet to send a letter. A great number of social networks exist where people get acquainted, communicate, and even evaluate pictures of each other (such as facebook, vkontakte, odnoklassniki, twitter and so on). On the one hand, these social networks help people to communicate, because this way we can send messages to great distances. But this letter is electronic. It is not written manually. However, there is another side to this situation. When a guy and a girl meet for the first time, it is very important to see the emotions: when she hesitates, flirts, makes eyes, while a guy aggressively tries to get acquainted, because he likes her. In social networks it is difficult to understand precisely and specifically only by the photo what a person is like. This social world is addictive for many people as a drug addiction.
Manystudents and pupils are communicating day and night in networks instead of doing lessons. Though there is a positive side to it: you can find a lot of information on the Internet, for example, while preparing a report for seminar.
There is only one means of communication that can fully convey all emotions (laughter, sadness, tears, smiles, frustration, etc.), gestures, facial expressions. It can show us a little bit of surroundings. It is also important in communication. Immediately you can see if someone draws his/her attention away from the talk. In such a situation you would not speak on a serious topic and will never tell your secrets away. Such means is called a web camera. With the help of some programs, we can make a video call to any part of the world. Via camera we can see a person with whom we communicate and hear his or her voice. It is quite important for communication, too.
A lot of people can assert that social networks can show the mood, with the helpof smileys. Smiley is a sign of a person with a certain emotion. During communication, the text is typed very quickly, therefore an error can be made. Choosing the wrong smiley, you can create an awkward situation. For example, sending your teacher a smiley with a kiss is not appropriate. If you accidentally send a smiley in the shape of heart to your friend’s boyfriend, it can result in a huge brawl.
Summing up, I can conclude that the more elaborate our means of communication are, the less we communicate. People meet less and spend less time together. The phone helps to know all they are interested in. Instead of admiring the appearance of relatives or friends, you can look at the pictures at social networks and not express emotion with such phrases as “You are very beautiful today!!!”, “You have an amazing haircut.” These expressions may be replaced by giving your rate from 1 to 10! Still, I think we should try to see those who are dear to us more often and to please them with our positive news.
В современном мире появилось огромное количество средств коммуникации. Это и интернет, телефоны, коммуникаторы, Веб камеры и т.д. Современная молодежь привыкла выражать свои эмоции в виде смайликов в сообщении. Целый день они сидят дома возле компьютеров и общаются со сверстниками по интернету, мама звонит с работы – под рукой телефон. И уже совсем не важно, какая у тебя мимика, какие жесты и эмоции!
До изобретения такого количества средств общения, люди чаще ходили друг к другу в гости, гуляли и общались. Таким образом, они получали информацию из уст в уста. Можно было почувствовать и увидеть разные эмоции собеседника. Если ты сообщаешь какую-либо важную информацию…по выражению лица и мимике ты можешь понять, приятна она или нет, удивила или нет, может быть шокировала.
Существует как отрицательные, так и положительные стороны такого многообразия коммуникативных средств. Для того чтоб быстро узнать интересующую вас информацию, необходимо лишь набрать номер телефона субъекта и вы услышите его голос в трубке. Телефон очень помогает в повседневной жизни, т.к. он всегда при себе и в любой момент вы можете позвонить в любую точку страны. Раньше же приходилось писать письма. Это очень скучный и долгий процесс. Во-первых, вы должны его написать на бумаге, во-вторых купить конверт с марками, положить его во внутрь и отнести на почту. Ещё не нужно забывать о том, что письмо, отправленное вами несколько дней, а то и недель, добирается до пункта назначения.
В настоящий момент, для того чтобы отправить письмо существует огромное количество возможностей в интернете. Изобрели множество социальных сетей, в которых люди знакомятся, общаются и даже оценивают фотографии друг друга. Такие как фейс бук, в контакте, одноклассники, мой мир и т.д. С одной стороны эти социальные сети очень помогаю людям общаться, ведь ты можешь отправить письма на огромные расстояния, только это письмо будет электронным, а не написанное тобой вручную. Но существует и другая сторона – ведь при знакомстве парня с девушкой, очень важны эти эмоции, когда девушка стесняется, кокетничает, строит глазки, а молодой человек настойчиво пытается познакомиться, ведь она ему понравилась. В социальных сетях сложно, точно и конкретно понять лишь по фотографии, нравится девушка ли или нет. Но многих очень сильно затягивает этот социальный мир, как наркотическая зависимость.
Многие студенты и школьники, вместо того чтоб делать уроки, день и ночь на пролёт общаются в сетях. Хотя существует и плюс – много информации можно найти в интернете, чтоб ответить с докладом на уроке.
Существует только одно средство общения, которое может полностью передать все эмоции (смех, грусть, слёзы, улыбку, недовольство и тд), жесты, мимику, немного окружающей среды. Это также важно при общении. Одновременно ты можешь видеть, если его кто-то отвлекает. В такой ситуации не станешь разговаривать на серьёзные темы и никогда не расскажешь свои секреты. Таким средством является веб-камера. С помощью некоторых программ, мы можем сделать видео звонок в любую часть нашей земли. По камере мы можем видеть человека, с которым общаемся, слышать его голос (что тоже немаловажно для общения).
Многие могут утверждать, что через соц. сети можно предать настроение, при помощи смайликов. Смайл – это знак лица с определённой эмоцией. Но при коммуникации, текс набирается очень быстро и может произойти ошибка. Выбрав неправильный смайл, может произойти неловкая ситуация. Например, отправлять преподавателю смайлик с поцелуем, будет совсем не корректно. Или парню своей подружке сердечко, может привести к огромной ссоре.
Подведя итог всего выше сказанного, я могу сделать вывод, что огромное разнообразие средств коммуникации действительно уменьшает общение людей лицом к лицу. Они меньше видятся и проводят вместе время. Ведь всё, что их интересует можно узнать по телефону. Посмотреть на какие-либо изменение по фотографиям в социальных сетях и не высказывая кучу эмоций таких как «Какая ты сегодня красивая!», У тебя изумительная причёска!». Эти эмоции может заменить твоя оценка от 1 до 10! Всё-таки я считаю, что нужно стараться видеться чаще с людьми, которые нам дороги и радовать их своими положительными новостями.

There are many different kinds of communication, such as Skype, text messaging, instant messaging, mobile phone and many others. Let`s think about plusses and minuses of interactive communication.
This way of communication is very popular among teenagers. Today it`s popular not only among young people, but also among adults. It is very useful as many people are often busy and they have no time for face-to-face communication. Also, if two people are far from each other, there isn’t any problem with communication. One plus of interactive communication is that many people can communicate with each other wherever they are. Also there are loads of examples, when two young people fall in love by the Internet. There are many other advantages of such kind of communication.
But besides plusses there are also some minuses. You can`t see face of interlocutor. I think it`s very important and more much pleasantly to communicate when you can see eyes of another person. There is one more thing called Skype. You can see the interlocutor trough webcam even if you are far from him.
Now interactive communication gets into our life more and more. But we mustn`t forget face-to-face communication. We should see each other more often not only in a rough time.
Существует много видов общения, такие как Скайп, смс-сообщения, электронные письма, телефон и многие другие. Давайте подумаем над плюсами и минусами интерактивного общения.
Такой способ общения очень популярен среди подростков. Сейчас он популярен не только среди молодых людей, но и среди взрослых. Это очень полезно, так как многие люди часто заняты и у них нет времени для живого общения. Также, если два человека находятся далеко друг от друга, существует много проблем с общением. Одним из плюсов интерактивного общения является то, что многие люди могут общаться друг с другом, где бы они ни были. Также, существует множество примеров, когда двое молодых людей влюблялись через Интернет. Есть и много других достоинств такого вида общения.
Но помимо плюсов также есть некоторые минусы. Ты не можешь видеть лицо собеседника. Я думаю, это очень важно, и более приятно общаться, когда ты можешь видеть глаза другого человека. Хотя, есть одна вещь под название Скайп. Ты можешь видеть собеседника через веб-камеру, даже если тыдалеко от него.
Сейчас интерактивное общение вливается в нашу жизнь все больше и больше. Но мы не должны забывать живое общение. Нам следует видеть друг друга чаще, не только в тяжелые времена.

Many modern teenagers are involved in volunteering, and their involvement appears to be controversial. Some people appreciate teenagers’ participation in social projects while others would prefer teenagers to pay more attention to themselves. In this essay I am going to detail my position on this issue.
