Средства массовой информации стали очень важны в нашей жизни. Мы сталкиваемся со СМИ почти каждый день и это помогает нам двигаться вперёд без остановок.
И если мы обсуждаем средства массовой информации, то мы можем выделить радио, газеты и журналы, телевидение и интернет. Фактически, все, что помогает людям по всему миру общаться и делиться информацией, мы можем отнести к СМИ.
Я думаю, СМИ имеет огромную силу. Любая информация влияет на людей очень сильно. Иногда мы даже не представляем, но средства массовой информации может принести нам много пользы и вреда.
Суть заключается в том, что СМИ может доносить до нас верную и ложную информацию. Мы смотрим телевизор каждый день, слушаем радио и читаем газеты. Все новости, которые мы узнаем, идут к нам именно от СМИ. К сожалению, мы не можем контролировать эту информацию на все 100% Конечно, новости по ТВ и некоторые программы – это наш исключительный выбор. А вот рекламы по ТВ и в интернете мы не контролируем.
Самое важное нужно понять, что информация не всегда бывает достоверной. И прежде, чем поверить в какую-то рекламу, подумайте заранее, ведь вокруг много разных мнений и комментариев.
Моим любимым средством является интернет. Вообще-то я считаю, что интернет стал самым популярным СМИ во всем мире. Все подростки и взрослые сегодня следят за новостями в интернете. Это очень удобно и есть доступ 24/7. Тут вы сможете найти любую информацию по всему миру, проследить за экстренными выпусками и много чего ещё.
ТВ сегодня становится менее популярным, я считаю. Многие люди выбирают жизнь без ТВ. Интернет заменяет ТВ. Я этому не удивлена, потому что даже я не интересуюсь ТВ больше.
Радио люди слушают, когда находятся за рулем. Я считаю, радио было изобретено именно для этого. Какой бы скучной была поездка без этого изобретения.
Газеты и журналы были популярны лет 10 назад. Конечно, модные журналы все ещё наши любимые, но сегодня и они есть в интернете. Каждый может выбрать то, что подходит именно ему. А информационный мир будет развиваться с каждым днём все больше и больше.
The mass media play an important part in our lives. Newspapers, radio and especially TV inform us of what is going on in this world and give us wonderful possibilities for education and entertainment. They also influence the way we see the world and shape our views.
Of course, not all newspapers and TV programmes report the events objectively, but serious journalists and TV reporters try to be fair and provide us with reliable information.
It is true that the world today is full of dramatic events and most news seems to be bad news. But people aren’t interested in ordinary events. That is why there are so many programmes and articles about natural disasters, plane crashes, wars, murders and robberies. Good news doesn’t usually make headlines. Bad news does.
Some people say that journalists are given too much freedom. They often intrude on people’s private lives. They follow celebrities and print sensational stories about them which are untrue or half-true. They take photos of them in their most intimate moments. The question is — should this be allowed?
The main source of news for millions of people is television. People like TV news because they can see everything with their own eyes. And that’s an important advantage. Seeing, as we know, is believing. Besides, it’s much more difficult for politicians to lie in front of the cameras than on the pages of newspapers.
Still, many people prefer the radio. It’s good to listen to in the car, or in the open air, or when you do something about the house.
Newspapers don’t react to events as quickly as TV, but they usually provide us with extra detail, comment and background information.
The Internet has recently become another important source of information. Its main advantage is that news appears on the screen as soon as things happen in real life and you don’t have to wait for news time on TV.

The role of mass media in the modern life can hardly be overestimated. Mass media have become a necessary part of any modern society. They inform, forecast, educate, entertain and advertise. We can learn about what is happening in our country and abroad very fast using mass media. Mass media bring people together in one global community.
Mass media include television, radio, books, newspapers, magazines and Internet. During the day we use them in our work or just for pleasure.
Every highly educated person regularly reads newspapers and magazines. Newspapers publish articles which cover the latest international and national events, give a full coverage of financial, commercial and public affairs. They are very different and dedicated to various spheres of life: culture, society, politics, religion, fashion, automobiles, sport, medicine or household. A lot of them are specialized and help people to be up-to-date with the latest news, events and achievements in different spheres.
Television gives us big opportunities, it brings world in our homes. It’s one of the richest sources of information. With the help of TV it is possible to study foreign languages, to learn a lot about discoveries and inventions, animal world, world of fashion and other amazing things. We watch TV to learn about the latest news or to have a rest.
Radio broadcasts much news and music. Some of programmes are very amusing and entertaining. Radio is widespread for its portability. It means that radios can be easily carried around. Many people like listening to the radio while having a rest on the beach or picnic, preparing meals, driving a car or walking down the street.
Books are also very important in people’s life. They influence the way people look at the world and can be people’s best friends and great teachers.
So, today mass media offer us a great variety to choose from. Nowadays there are so many newspapers and magazines, TV-channels and radio stations that people have to be very selective and give preference to some of them. In spite of the fact that tastes differ, everyone can choose something for himself.

Mass media plays a very important role in organizing public opinion. Millions of people watch TV and read newspapers in their free time. Most of people can’t do without a newspaper in the underground or during the lunch break. TV also dominates the life of the family most of the time. It is also a habit which impossible to resist. The radio is turned on most of the time, creating a permanent background noise. So Mass Media become a very important part of our life. Mass media denotes a section of the media specifically designed to reach a large audience. The term was coined in the 1920s with the advent of nationwide radio networks, mass-circulation newspapers and magazines. However, some forms of mass media such as books and manuscripts had already been in use for centuries.
Mass media can be used for various purposes: advocacy, both for business and social concerns. This can include advertising, marketing, propaganda, public relations, and political communication. Entertainment, traditionally through performances of acting, music, and sports, along with light reading. Since the late 20th century also through video and computer games. Journalism is the discipline of collecting, analyzing, verifying and presenting information regarding current events, trends, issues and people. Those who practice journalism are known as journalists. Electronic media and print media include: Broadcasting, in the narrow sense, for radio and television. Most newspapers contain news, detailed articles on home and international affairs, reviews of books, art and TV shows. Many of them also cover sports events. In the USA daily newspapers are published in 34 different languages. The Internet has recently become another important source of information. Its main advantage is that news appears on the screen as soon as things happen in real life and you don’t have to wait for news time on TV.
TV is one of the best inventions the man ever made. We are really beginning to forget what the world was without TV. Everybody knows what a great force is TV in the world today. We become better informed by watching documentaries, science programs, discussions and political issues of the day. TV gives us opportunities to see the best actors, sport matches, to meet famous people. TV brings the world to our room. TV helps us to relax after a hard days work. Besides there is a considerable amount of TV programs (News, current affairs viewpoint. Musical Reviews, Sports Review, Travelers Clubs, Good Night Kids. etc) and they gather big audience. They provide useful topics for conversation, wise heated discussions. Current Affairs (Viewpoint, News) These programs deal with political and social problems of modern society. Their aim is to give an analyze of the problems and to show different viewpoints. They are concerned with the counties national events. They show meetings with famous political analysts, discussing the most topical political problems of today. To my mind we can’t imagine our lives without mass media. It is silly to avoid it as we can use its advantages.Though we should be careful and filter all information we get.
Mass media: pros and cons
Mass media consists of printed production, television, radio and Internet. One can choose from a great variety of these sources. Mass media provides us with necessary information on things and events happening worldwide 24 hours a day. And it also helps us to spend our leisure time.
Its history begins with the first printed Chinese newspaper in 868 A.D. Europe saw its first book in 1453 when Johannes Guttenberg invented the printed press.
The influence of mass media is doubtless, but is it positive or negative? There are benefits as well as some drawbacks in this issue.
The very first benefit is information. Nowadays the information can be useful for people. It is very important for everyone because there are lots of things happening every minute in the world which can affect our professional and private life.
And it makes news accessible: just turn on the TV or look through news sites and you will be kept currently informed. Another useful purpose is education. Many people gain knowledge from the Internet and TV programs. It is an easy and affordable way to cultivate intelligence.
And what about drawbacks? As people use to say “Too much of a good thing is good for nothing”. This suits to the mass media. One shouldn`t rely on everything the newspapers say. Misrepresentations and bare- faced lie easily take place and misinform millions of people. Mass media can also manipulate the minds of the audiences as it was done in the times of theSoviet Union.
Today we witness the influence of various sources of mass media on youth. Tons of meaning lessTV- shows, glossy magazines and social networks steal young people`s time that could be spent on beneficial and healthy activities. They lose their own opinion and have nothing to say except the ideas heard from others.
To my mind we can’t imagine our lives without mass media. It is silly to avoid it as we can use its advantages.Though we should be careful and filter all information we get. I do my best to stay informed about the latest events and I’m fond of searching in the Internet.
But I don’t forget that mass media is only a part of my life and not the essential one.

Искажённая информация откровенная ложь легко вводит в заблуждение миллионы людей. СМИ также может манипулировать сознанием людей, как это было сделано во времена Советского Союза. На сегодняшний момент мы является свидетелями влияния различными источниками СМИ на молодёжь. Тонны бессмысленных телевизионных шоу, глянцевых журналов, социальных сетей крадут у молодёжи время, которое могло быть потрачено на полезную деятельность. Молодёжь теряет своё собственное мнение, им нечего сказать, кроме как про то, что они услышали от других.
По моему мнению, мы не может представить нашу жизнь без СМИ. Глупо отказываться от СМИ, так как мы можем пользоваться преимуществами. Хотя мы должны быть осторожны и фильтровать информацию, которую мы получаем. Я стараюсь быть в курсе последних новостей, и мне нравится искать информацию в интернете. Mass Media has become an important part in the life of our society. It includes the press, radio and television whose main functions are to inform, to educate and to entertain.
Television
I believe millions of people can’t live without TV; it’s an integral part of everyone’s life. Even if we don’t watch it, it can be switched on just for the background. The same thing is with radio. We listen to it whenever we have meals or do work around the house. Radio broadcasts are valued mainly for their music programs. As for TV, there is a great variety of programs from which one can choose in order to satisfy his interests in the best way. Our television provides so much information that sometimes we are even lost in this stream. We get to know about social, economic and political events that take place in our country and in the whole world. We learn about new discoveries in science and about problems concerning different spheres of our life. There are lots of shows, films and games that are entertaining and exciting and help us to relax at the end of the working day.
Newspapers
Newspapers are also able to supply people with any kind of information. They comprise articles about the latest international and national events, all kinds of rumours, advertising, fun stories, biographies of well-known people and so on. There are newspapers and magazines for people of all age groups where one can read all kinds of news, events and reports on education, sports, cultural life, entertainment and fashion.
Advertising
One more important thing which is worth mentioning is advertising. Mass Media is one of the best ways to promote various goods and to help people to understand what they really need.
Conclusion
I believe it would be hard to imagine our life without Mass Media.
Mass media (that is, the press, the radio and television) play an important role in the life of society. They inform, educate and entertain people. But it is hardly fair to say that mass media do not try to raise cultural level of the people or to develop their artistic taste. Mass media brings to millions of homes not only entertaiment and news but also cultural and educational programs.
There are more then six TV channels and lot’s of radio stations and newspapers now in the Russian Federation.
Despite today’s abundance and variety of mass media, not everything can be ranked as such. Thus, for example, libraries or press conferences cannot be attributed to mass media.
Features of mass media
There are 3 main features which characterize mass media. First of all, they must be periodic. Second, they are always aimed at a large audience. Third, there must be a speaker or any other source of information.
Press
Press is considered to be a classic form of mass media. It includes newspapers, magazines, brochures and all other printed publications issued with a specific periodicity. Unfortunately, with the development of Internet and other means of media, press is experiencing difficult times.
Electronic mass media
This category includes radio, television and Internet. Radio is a popular means of media, especially when travelling or driving. Television is, without any doubt, the most effective one with the biggest audience of all. Nowadays, with Internet playing a significant part in our life, mass media is gradually moving into virtual space.
Role of mass media in the life of the society
It is difficult to overestimate the role of mass media in our life. Media influence people’s consciousness, creating a certain public opinion. They also play a great role in the formation of a personality. With the help of mass media it became possible to quickly learn about things that happen around the world.

Mass media play a crucial role in forming public opinion. They do it in a number of ways: first, they communicate the world to individuals. Much of the news media is made up of newsgathering by large organizations. Just four main news agencies — AP, UPI, Reuters and Agence France Presse — claim together to provide 90 % of the total news output of the world’s press, radio and television. Second, they reproduce modern society’s self-image by forcing attention to certain issues. They build up public images of political figures. They are constantly presenting objects suggesting what individuals in the mass should think about, know about, have feelings about. Because some of the media produce material which often is good, impartial, and serious, they have respect and authority. If we look into the reasons why the mass media shape public opinion, we will see, first of all, that in practice the ethics of the press and television provides a vital support for the existing order. Mass media or mass communications are the press, radio and television.
Every day we read newspapers and magazines, listen to radio and watch TV. Nowadays there are so many newspapers and magazines, radio stations and TV channels that we have to be very -selective and give preference to some of them.
What newspapers and magazines do I prefer to read? I like to read the following newspapers: “Komsomol skava Pravda” (“Komsomol Truth”), “Nezavisimost” (“Independence”), “Argumenty i Fakty’ (“Arguments and Facts”).
Several periodicals are available in English. As far as newspapers are concerned they may be daily, or weekly. Magazines may be weekly, monthly and quarterly.
The newspapers and magazines I read are the most readable and have a large readership or circulation. For example, “Argumenty i Fakty” has a circulation of more than 23 000 000. It is the largest in the world. The newspapers contain and give coverage of local, home and foreign affairs. Their publications deal with very burning problems of our. history, latest events and forecasts for future. They also touch upon cultural, sport news. I like the way they present different points of view, approaches to the problems. My parents and I subscribe to some periodicals, so we are subscribers. We buy some of newspapers and magazines in a kiosk.
I often listen to radio, especially in the morning before I leave for school. I prefer to listen to “Mayak” (“Lighthouse”) program. They broadcast much news and music. I like to listen to weekend programs, some of them are very amusing and entertaining.
As to the TV, we have 4 channels. I prefer to watch youth programs.

The BBC is state-funded and there is absolutely no advertising in BBC programmes, and in the programmes of the Independent Television, the advertising is also restricted.
In Russia nowadays, there are many national daily and weekly newspapers. There are also local newspapers in all parts of Russia, and one can find newspapers and magazines for sports fans, music fans and so on. Our family subscribes to Izuestiya (Trud, Sevodnia etc.) and Vecherny Peterburg (Smena etc.) because they are informative, interesting and objective. My father is interested in sport, so he sometimes buys «Sport-express» at the newsstands. I’m not very interested in politics and economics, so I sometimes buy newspapers and magazines about music and the cinema.

Those who practice journalism are known as journalists. Electronic media and print media include: Broadcasting, in the narrow sense, for radio and television. Many instances of various types of recorded discs or tapes. In the 20th century, these were mainly used for music. Video and computer uses followed. Film, most often used for entertainment, but also for documentaries.
The Internet, which has many uses and presents both opportunities and challenges. Examples can include Blogs and podcasts (such as news, music, pre-recorded speech, and video) Mobile phones, which can be used for rapid breaking news and short clips of entertainment like jokes, horoscopes, alerts, games, music, and advertising. Publishing, including electronic publishing Video games, which have developed into a mass form of media since cutting-edge devices such as the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii broadened their use. Millions of copies of newspapers appear every day. Many people subscribe to two or more newspapers; others buy newspapers at the newsstands. Most newspapers contain news, detailed articles on home and international affairs, reviews of books, art and TV shows. Many of them also cover sports events. In the USA daily newspapers are published in 34 different languages. The Internet has recently become another important source of information. Its main advantage is that news appears on the screen as soon as things happen in real life and you don’t have to wait for news time on TV.
TV is one of the best inventions the man ever made. We are really beginning to forget what the world was without TV. Everybody knows what a great force is TV in the world today. We become better informed by watching documentaries, science programs, discussions and political issues of the day. TV gives us opportunities to see the best actors, sport matches, to meet famous people. TV brings the world to our room. TV helps us to relax after a hard days work. Besides there is a considerable amount of TV programs (News, current affairs viewpoint. Musical Reviews, Sports Review, Travelers Clubs, Good Night Kids. etc) and they gather big audience. They provide useful topics for conversation, wise heated discussions. Current Affairs (Viewpoint, News) These programs deal with political and social problems of modern society. Their aim is to give an analyze of the problems and to show different viewpoints. They are concerned with the counties national events. They show meetings with famous political analysts, discussing the most topical political problems of today. To my mind we can’t imagine our lives without mass media. It is silly to avoid it as we can use its advantages.Though we should be careful and filter all information we get.
Mass media: pros and cons
Mass media consists of printed production, television, radio and Internet. One can choose from a great variety of these sources. Mass media provides us with necessary information on things and events happening worldwide 24 hours a day. And it also helps us to spend our leisure time.
Its history begins with the first printed Chinese newspaper in 868 A.D. Europe saw its first book in 1453 when Johannes Guttenberg invented the printed press.
The influence of mass media is doubtless, but is it positive or negative? There are benefits as well as some drawbacks in this issue.
The very first benefit is information. Nowadays the information can be useful for people. It is very important for everyone because there are lots of things happening every minute in the world which can affect our professional and private life.
And it makes news accessible: just turn on the TV or look through news sites and you will be kept currently informed. Another useful purpose is education. Many people gain knowledge from the Internet and TV programs. It is an easy and affordable way to cultivate intelligence.
And what about drawbacks? As people use to say “Too much of a good thing is good for nothing”. This suits to the mass media. One shouldn`t rely on everything the newspapers say. Today we witness the influence of various sources of mass media on youth. To my mind we can’t imagine our lives without mass media. It is silly to avoid it as we can use its advantages.Though we should be careful and filter all information we get. I do my best to stay informed about the latest events and I’m fond of searching in the Internet.
But I don’t forget that mass media is only a part of my life and not the essential one.

Искажённая информация откровенная ложь легко вводит в заблуждение миллионы людей. СМИ также может манипулировать сознанием людей, как это было сделано во времена Советского Союза. На сегодняшний момент мы является свидетелями влияния различными источниками СМИ на молодёжь. Тонны бессмысленных телевизионных шоу, глянцевых журналов, социальных сетей крадут у молодёжи время, которое могло быть потрачено на полезную деятельность. Молодёжь теряет своё собственное мнение, им нечего сказать, кроме как про то, что они услышали от других.
По моему мнению, мы не может представить нашу жизнь без СМИ. Глупо отказываться от СМИ, так как мы можем пользоваться преимуществами. Хотя мы должны быть осторожны и фильтровать информацию, которую мы получаем. Я стараюсь быть в курсе последних новостей, и мне нравится искать информацию в интернете. Но я не забываю, что интернет не является главной частью моей жизни.

Mass Media has become an important part in the life of our society. It includes the press, radio and television whose main functions are to inform, to educate and to entertain.
Television
I believe millions of people can’t live without TV; it’s an integral part of everyone’s life. Even if we don’t watch it, it can be switched on just for the background. The same thing is with radio. We listen to it whenever we have meals or do work around the house. Radio broadcasts are valued mainly for their music programs. As for TV, there is a great variety of programs from which one can choose in order to satisfy his interests in the best way. Our television provides so much information that sometimes we are even lost in this stream. We get to know about social, economic and political events that take place in our country and in the whole world. We learn about new discoveries in science and about problems concerning different spheres of our life. There are lots of shows, films and games that are entertaining and exciting and help us to relax at the end of the working day.
Newspapers
Newspapers are also able to supply people with any kind of information. They comprise articles about the latest international and national events, all kinds of rumours, advertising, fun stories, biographies of well-known people and so on. There are newspapers and magazines for people of all age groups where one can read all kinds of news, events and reports on education, sports, cultural life, entertainment and fashion.
Advertising
One more important thing which is worth mentioning is advertising. Mass Media is one of the best ways to promote various goods and to help people to understand what they really need.

I believe it would be hard to imagine our life without Mass Media.

Despite today’s abundance and variety of mass media, not everything can be ranked as such. Thus, for example, libraries or press conferences cannot be attributed to mass media.
Features of mass media
There are 3 main features which characterize mass media. First of all, they must be periodic. Second, they are always aimed at a large audience. Third, there must be a speaker or any other source of information.
Press
Press is considered to be a classic form of mass media. It includes newspapers, magazines, brochures and all other printed publications issued with a specific periodicity. Unfortunately, with the development of Internet and other means of media, press is experiencing difficult times.
Electronic mass media
This category includes radio, television and Internet. Radio is a popular means of media, especially when travelling or driving. Television is, without any doubt, the most effective one with the biggest audience of all. Nowadays, with Internet playing a significant part in our life, mass media is gradually moving into virtual space.
Role of mass media in the life of the society
It is difficult to overestimate the role of mass media in our life. Media influence people’s consciousness, creating a certain public opinion. They also play a great role in the formation of a personality. With the help of mass media it became possible to quickly learn about things that happen around the world.

Mass media play an important role in our life. They are usually defined by encyclopedias as any of the means of communication, such as radio, television, newspapers, magazines, etc. that reach and influence a very large audience, at least as large as the whole population of a nation. The term was coined in 1920s with emerging of nationwide radio networks and of mass-circulation newspapers and magazines. I believe mass media are so influential because they can be used for various purposes: popularisation, for business or social concerns (advertising, marketing, public relations, and political communication), education, entertainment, video and computer games, journalism, public service announcements. Media include radio and television, films, various types of discs or tapes used for music and computer, Internet, publishing on paper (books, magazines, and newspapers).
Mass media play a crucial role in forming public opinion. They do it in a number of ways: first, they communicate the world to individuals. Much of the news media is made up of newsgathering by large organizations. Just four main news agencies — AP, UPI, Reuters and Agence France Presse — claim together to provide 90 % of the total news output of the world’s press, radio and television. Second, they reproduce modern society’s self-image by forcing attention to certain issues. They build up public images of political figures. They are constantly presenting objects suggesting what individuals in the mass should think about, know about, have feelings about. Because some of the media produce material which often is good, impartial, and serious, they have respect and authority. If we look into the reasons why the mass media shape public opinion, we will see, first of all, that in practice the ethics of the press and television provides a vital support for the existing order. Second, many of the mass media in practice cater for the tastes of some social group. Shaping the public opinion inside this group, they create the audience which supports them financially by buying the newspaper or watching the TV channel.
But how much do the media influence the modern society? Early critiques suggested that the media destroys the individual’s capacity to act autonomously. Later studies, however, suggest a more complex interaction between the media and society. People actively interprete and evaluate the media and the information it provides.

Mass media in Russia (СМИ в России)
Mass media or mass communications are the press, radio and television.
Every day we read newspapers and magazines, listen to radio and watch TV. Nowadays there are so many newspapers and magazines, radio stations and TV channels that we have to be very -selective and give preference to some of them.
What newspapers and magazines do I prefer to read? I like to read the following newspapers: “Komsomol skava Pravda” (“Komsomol Truth”), “Nezavisimost” (“Independence”), “Argumenty i Fakty’ (“Arguments and Facts”).
Several periodicals are available in English. As far as newspapers are concerned they may be daily, or weekly. Magazines may be weekly, monthly and quarterly.
The newspapers and magazines I read are the most readable and have a large readership or circulation. For example, “Argumenty i Fakty” has a circulation of more than 23 000 000. It is the largest in the world. The newspapers contain and give coverage of local, home and foreign affairs. Their publications deal with very burning problems of our. history, latest events and forecasts for future. They also touch upon cultural, sport news. I like the way they present different points of view, approaches to the problems. My parents and I subscribe to some periodicals, so we are subscribers. We buy some of newspapers and magazines in a kiosk.
I often listen to radio, especially in the morning before I leave for school. I prefer to listen to “Mayak” (“Lighthouse”) program. They broadcast much news and music. I like to listen to weekend programs, some of them are very amusing and entertaining.
As to the TV, we have 4 channels. I prefer to watch youth programs.
In addition I like to see interesting films. They might be feature, adventure, scientific, horror, cartoon and other films. I enjoy seeing Walt Disney’s cartoons. Now and then I like to see the program “Love at First Sight”. It is an enjoyable and entertaining one.
The mass media plays an important role in our everyday life. In fact it is an essential part of modern society. Press, radio and TV keep people informed on the latest and most sensational events.
Millions of copies of newspapers are printed in our country every day. All the most important questions of social, economic, scientific and cultural life, moral and ecological problems are published in the press and discussed on TV. Opinions clash, officials and political parties are subjected to criticism whatever their position may by. The mass media is constantly trying to stimulate interest in every aspect of life of the country.

Another kind of link between the public and the media which appeared recently is advertising. The mass media helps us with information about new goods and services. But some people are tired of advertisements and don’t like to see their favorite films or programmes interrupted by them. I hope some way will be found to solve this problem. For example, in Great Britain, there are two organizations providing TV and radio services. The BBC is state-funded and there is absolutely no advertising in BBC programmes, and in the programmes of the Independent Television, the advertising is also restricted.
In Russia nowadays, there are many national daily and weekly newspapers. There are also local newspapers in all parts of Russia, and one can find newspapers and magazines for sports fans, music fans and so on. Our family subscribes to Izuestiya (Trud, Sevodnia etc.) and Vecherny Peterburg (Smena etc.) because they are informative, interesting and objective. My father is interested in sport, so he sometimes buys «Sport-express» at the newsstands. I’m not very interested in politics and economics, so I sometimes buy newspapers and magazines about music and the cinema.

In recent years social media has become deeply integrated in our everyday lives. The concept of social media itself includes several categories: blogs, live journals, forums, chats, dating sites and, of course, social networking sites or SNS. Essentially, they all are platforms for people’s remote communication, i.e. exchange of different types of information: text messages, music, photo and video content. The most popular with the young people are social networking sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vkontakte and so on. On the one hand, a social network is a very convenient tool for a quick message exchange, searching for old friends and making new acquaintances, keeping important information and discussing pressing issues in groups, right in the comfort of one’s home.
