Nowadays English is one of the most widespread languages in the world. A huge number of people (over one billion) speak English for historical reasons (colonialist policies and cultural influence of the British Empire) and because of its functionality. English is the official language not only in the USA, Canada, and the United Kingdom, but also in India, Australia, and many countries of Africa and Southern America. Due to the great importance of English in business, science, diplomatic relations, it is possible to say that it plays a role of the modern “lingua Franca” like Latin in the Middle Ages or French in the 19th century.
В наши дни английский – один из самых распространённых языков мира. Огромное количество людей (более миллиарда) говорит на английском по историческим причинам (колониальная политика и культурное влияние Британской империи) и из-за его функциональности. Therefore, it is natural that people learn English willingly; for example, in my country, it holds the first position in the list of the most popular languages for learning. Almost all the Russian children study English in school, and I was among them. My personal experience tied with English is rather pleasant and useful: it was always interesting for me to learn it, especially to write my own texts, translate and speak. I took part in a few competitions in English, and some of them were successful. Besides, I enjoyed reading English and American literature in original (E. Bronte, J. Salinger, etc.).

Fortunately, knowledge of English still helps me: as a translator, I use it in my professional life and in scientific research. English is irreplaceable in communication with my friends living abroad. Sometimes I read books and watch movies in English in order to maintain my language level and just to contact the amazing British culture.

I think that nowadays English studying is a very important phenomenon. English language became an international language. English occupies leading position among such languages as Russian, Chinese, Spanish, Arabic and French – it is the official languages of the UN. All large companies such as air and sea companies use this language. I guess that in future all people will speak English. My mother says that every educated person should know foreign language or may be some foreign languages. I think that people who know English can visit different countries without problems, because English gives a possibility to communicate with foreign people. Today many people study English. Some of them because of work necessity, they need to make agreements and many different documents. Also a lot of people travel abroad. And for other people language studying is a hobby. They just want to wide their outlook.
My father says that English is widespread. English is a very useful language, because, 80 percent of communications between a person and a computer are in English. Also, nearly half of all business deals in Europe are conducted in English. I guess that English is studied as foreign language in many schools all over the world.
As for me, I study English because I want to be an interpreter. I guess that it is an interesting work. If you work as an interpreter you can met new people, communicate with them and make friend with some of them. Also I study English because I want to understand many people from different countries, I want to read English books in the original, I want to listen songs of foreign groups and to understand them, I want to watch different TV programs. I think that in future I`ll get a possibility to visit USA or England. It would be interesting experience. I like to study English. I like to find out the origin of words, also I like to compare English and Russian words, often they are almost identical. English studying is very interesting and informative.

English in my life
There is a good quotation “how many languages you know so many times you are a man”. I think it is really so. I also think that persons should learn as much foreign languages as possible as it makes the outlook wider. Moreover knowing several foreign languages brings many opportunities to life. I know Ukrainian language as it is my mother tongue, Russian and English.
I would like to say that English plays a great role in our life. It is officially known international language so it even necessary to know it if you want to make a success in career. As for me English is a language of an exceptional importance. I like to read books. I read them all the time. English helps me to read them in original in order to dive deeper in the author’s world. I like to compare the text in English with the one in my native languages. This makes my imagination brighter and my speech more expressive.
Also I’m keen of music and it is quite important for me to know what this or that song is about. That is why I always find the words of the song I like in order to translate it as this helps me to understand better the meaning of it. Somebody may find it naive and funny but I’m strongly confident that English assists me in my self-development. It makes my brain work harder and develops my mental skills. Long ago studying a foreign language was not necessary and people weren`t in need of it.In Shakespeare`s time English was spoken only by six million people and was a “provincial ” language. But now at the beginning of the 21st millenium probably one billion people speak English.But the situation has changed greatly thanks to the expansion of all types of ties between countries in the world. A person who has a good command of a foreign language feels at ease not only in his native country but abroad too.I remember a good quatation said by Gohnson ” language is the dress of thought”. These words dress our thoughts better. A foreign language will enable a person to read English books in the original, to communicate with foreigners, to participate in cultural and educational exchanges with other countries.
So, English plays a great role in our lives.People, who know foreign languages are necessary for the development of technics,economy and arts in modern society. People want to learn foreign languages to write their pen-friends or to communicate with them personally. People also want to read the works written by famous writers and also magazines in the original. Learning a foreign language is especially important in our country. As for me I am fond of English. I began studying it nine years ago and I have enjoyed my lessons since that time. I like everything in English: its pronunciation, its intonation, its songs and poetry. It`s a pity there is very few English classes at school. So, to improve my English I listen to the radio programmes, listen to the English songs and poems, I watch Englishfilms on TV, communicate with my English friend on the Internet, read compositions on the Internet and now as a result I am participating in the International competition in English. But the most important thing ,in my opinion, is speaking fluently. But it`s not an easy task as it might seen. That`s why I do all my best to learn English grammar well and to have good speaking skills.Certainly I haven`t mustered everything in English but I am absolutely sure that in a few years my command of the language will be perfect.
English is a wondreful language. The great German poet Goethe once said “He, who knows no foreign language, does not know his own one”.Indeed, knowledge of foreign language expands the knowledge of native one.And I fully agree that native language enrriches the knowledge of foreign languages.
So, if you want to be a well educated person and to succeed in your career study English and your world will become wider.

Я начала изучать его 9 лет назад и я получаю удовольствие от изучения этого языка. Мне все нравится в ангийском: произношение, интонация, песни и лирика. Жаль ,что очень мало уроков английского в школе. На мой взгляд самое важное – это говорить бегло. Это не легкая задача, как кажется на первый взгляд. Вот почему я делаю все возможное, чтобы выучить английскую грамматику и иметь хорошие навыки в говорении. Я еще не очень хорошо знаю язык, но я думаю, что через несколько лет я буду хорошо владеть им.

The modern world is becoming smaller all the time. Every day distances between different countries seem less. For this reason it’s becoming more and more important to know different languages, especially English.
One billion people speak English today. That’s about 20% of the world’s population. 400 million people speak English as their first language. For the other 600 million people it’s either a second language or a foreign language.
English is the first language in the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Australia and New Zealand. It is one of the official languages in Canada, the Irish Republic and the Republic of South Africa.
As a second language English is spoken in more than 60 countries. It is used by the government, businessmen and universities.
English is the language of politics and diplomacy, science and technology, business and trade, sport and pop music. 80% of all information in the world’s computers is in English. 75% of the world’s letters and faxes are in English. 60% of all international telephone calls are made in English. More than 60% of all scientific journals are written in English.
To know English today is absolutely necessary for every educated person, for every good specialist. Learning a language is not an easy thing. It’s a long and slow process that takes a lot of time and patience. But it’s a must.
English is taught throughout the world and a lot of people speak it quite well. In our country English is very popular: it is studied at schools (sometimes even at nursery schools), colleges and universities.
Everyone will speak English soon — I’m sure of it. We all need to understand each other. To do that we need an international language, and that’s English.

My name is Denis. My surname is Ivanov. I live in Russia, in Astrakhan. Astrakhan is very old, but it`s a beautiful city. There is the Kremlin in our town. In the Kremlin there are seven towers, it has the pentagon form. In the old times all city was in the territory of the Kremlin, and around the river Volga. The river Volga is very beautiful, a lot of fish in it. I like to fish. Sometimes my family and I go fishing.
My family is my mum, my father and my brother. My brother is 4 years. His name is Dima. He is very cheerful and noisy. I have a grandmother, a grandfather and a great-grandmother. I like to visit them. My great-grandmother was at the Second World War. She hasa lot of medals. She is very kind and fair. She bakes tasty pies. I have got a cat. It`s name is Gerda. Gerda likes to sleep. She is fluffy and can purring.
My birthday is on October, 31st. I am 10 years. This year I had a birthday party at the caf?. There we ate pizza, and then played. We had a beautiful birthday cake. Ten candles burned on the cake. My friends presented me many gifts: books, games. My birthday party was cheerful and funny.
I study in Lyceum number two. I like to study there very much. In our Lyceum teachers are kind and good, and in my class I have many friends.
I like to read books. My favorite books are: “Harry Potter`s” and “Stalker”. I like to play the computer. On Saturdays and Sundays my family and I go to the cinema or walk, and in summer in parks and on beaches. We spend weekends well.
In summer I usually visit many interesting places. This summer I was in the city of Pyatigorsk. We went on excursions, were in the Museum of Butterflies and drank mineral water. We went on excursion to Kabardino-Balkaria by the bus. I visited Elbrus, the highest mountain. It was fine, but cold. It`s very interesting to see snow in summer. We were on Blue Lake. Water was blue and pure there. Then we visited a Thermal Lake. Th e lake had warm water. It` s medical.
Even this summer I went to the sanatorium in the city of Gelendzhik. It`s near the Black sea. I had a rest and was treated. We went to swim in the sea every day. It`s very beautiful there – the warm sea and the bright sun.

Learning a foreign language is a hard work. It is a long, sometimes boring and slow process. Every day you should devote your time and efforts to learning. The most difficult thing is that English is very different from your own. And of course a native language has a powerful influence on a person.
Eveyone asks when it is better to start studying. It is easy when you a child. You are open for knowledge and you think more about learning than about other problems. When you are an adult it isn’t so easy. It requires much patience, time, efforts. As for me I start learning at school. But I was fool and didn’t work hard. When I had entered the university I met a wounderful teacher of English. She made me learn this language. Today English and me are the best friends. I’d like to say some words about my studies. I had 3 lessons a week. I had to learn the ABC, transcription, sounds again. Then from lesson to lesson I learnt new words, grammar rules, conversational phrases. Some of them I learnt by heart. I tried to listen much in English. I watched films, different videos, listened to music in English. It helped me much. I read and translated texts every day, did many grammar exercises.
I’d like to give you some advice how to be succeed in studying. The most important thing is to be patient. You will see that you have to repeat new words again and again. When you are able to use them automatically, you should take another group and do the same. Some people have an idea if they memorise long list of vocabulary they will learn the language. It is much more. You have to put your attention to grammar. After you can use the grammatical structures, you can enrich your vocabulary.
I think learning foreign languages is very useful nowadays. You can communicate with people all over the world, you can know the culture and, of course, you will become a well-rounded and educated person. The more languages you speak, the more times you are a human being. So I can really say that English in my life plays a very important role. I have a good job with high salary. I can travel abroad and communicate with others without any problems. I can use internet easily , read different manuals and understand them. My outlook has become much wider. Of course, my english is not perfect. I have some problems. But I continue studying every day. Practice makes perfect.
In conclusion I’d like to admit that at first English may seem easy. But there is a bridge between basic knowledge and mastery. And it takes a long time across. Огромное количество людей (более миллиарда) говорит на английском по историческим причинам (колониальная политика и культурное влияние Британской империи) и из-за его функциональности. Английский является официальным языком не только в США, Канаде и Великобритании, но и в Индии, Австралии, многих странах Африки и Южной Америки. Благодаря большому значению английского в бизнесе, науке, дипломатических отношениях, можно сказать, что он играет роль современной «лингва франка», подобно латинскому в Средневековье или французскому в XIX веке.
Therefore, it is natural that people learn English willingly; for example, in my country, it holds the first position in the list of the most popular languages for learning. Almost all the Russian children study English in school, and I was among them. My personal experience tied with English is rather pleasant and useful: it was always interesting for me to learn it, especially to write my own texts, translate and speak. I took part in a few competitions in English, and some of them were successful. Besides, I enjoyed reading English and American literature in original (E. Bronte, J. Salinger, etc.).

Fortunately, knowledge of English still helps me: as a translator, I use it in my professional life and in scientific research. English is irreplaceable in communication with my friends living abroad. Sometimes I read books and watch movies in English in order to maintain my language level and just to contact the amazing British culture.

People in Russia study some foreign languages: French, German, Spain, Italian and some others. But the most popular is, of course, English. Why so? I think that there are some reasons for its popularity. First, children learn it at school; they study it further at the universities and institutes because it is easier to learn than any other language. Second, it sounds very pleasant and sweet. Third, English is used in world media. This language is needed when we travel abroad because we have to communicate with people of different nationalities. English is an international language it is spoken in more than 120 countries, it is a working language of the United Nations. Besides, many people want to use it for a future career. Now English is a language of communication for people of various professions. I can name only some of them: politicians, sportsmen, pilots and air traffic controllers, scientists, etc.
As for me, English attracts me because it is used everywhere: on the labels of different goods, in different instructions to them. Nowadays there are many borrowings from English in the Russian language. And we cannot understand the meanings of these words without knowing this language. Every modern person should try to learn English. There are so many beautiful English books which are worth reading in original. Besides, a lot of songs, films and other cultural things are written in English and we can understand them without translation if we try to do the best. Our contacts with the people of the world become more and more wider. Nowadays there is a practice of specialists exchange in different spheres of life. It is one more reason for learning English. I express my own opinion and I think that many people can support me.
Люди в России изучают много иностранных языков: французский, немецкий, испанский, итальянский и несколько других. Но самым популярным, конечно, является английский язык. Почему так? Я думаю, что его популярности есть несколько причин. Во-первых, дети изучают его в школе, затем они учат его в университетах и институтах, потому что он легче в изучении, чем любой другой язык. Во-вторых, он звучит очень приятно и мило. В- третьих, английский – это язык средств массовой информации мира. Этот язык нужен , когда мы путешествуем за границей, ведь мы должны общаться с людьми разных национальностей. Английский – международный язык, на нём разговаривают более, чем в 120 странах, это рабочий язык Организации Объединённых Наций. Кроме того, многие люди изучают его для будущей карьеры. Сейчас английскийязык – средство общения людей разных профессий. Я могу назвать только несколько из них: политики, спортсмены, лётчики и авиадиспетчеры, учёные и т.д.
Что касается меня, английский привлекает меня, потому что он используется везде: на этикетках различных товаров, в инструкциях к ним. Сегодня в русском языке очень много заимствований из английского. И мы не сможем понять значения этих слов без знания английского языка. Каждому современному человеку следует постараться в изучении языка. Ведь так много прекрасных английских книг, которые стоит прочитать в оригинале. Кроме того, много песен, фильмов и другого культурного достояния написано на английском языке, и мы можем понять их без перевода, если преуспеем в изучении языка. Наши контакты с людьми из других стран становятся всё шире. Сегодня практикуется обмен специалистами в разных сферах жизни. Это ещё одна причина для изучения английского языка. Я выразила свою точку зрения, и думаю, что многие люди поддержат меня.

I think that nowadays English studying is a very important phenomenon. English language became an international language. English occupies leading position among such languages as Russian, Chinese, Spanish, Arabic and French – it is the official languages of the UN. All large companies such as air and sea companies use this language. I guess that in future all people will speak English. My mother says that every educated person should know foreign language or may be some foreign languages. I think that people who know English can visit different countries without problems, because English gives a possibility to communicate with foreign people. Today many people study English. Some of them because of work necessity, they need to make agreements and many different documents. Also a lot of people travel abroad. And for other people language studying is a hobby. They just want to wide their outlook.
My father says that English is widespread. English is a very useful language, because, 80 percent of communications between a person and a computer are in English. Also, nearly half of all business deals in Europe are conducted in English. I guess that English is studied as foreign language in many schools all over the world.
As for me, I study English because I want to be an interpreter. I guess that it is an interesting work. If you work as an interpreter you can met new people, communicate with them and make friend with some of them. Also I study English because I want to understand many people from different countries, I want to read English books in the original, I want to listen songs of foreign groups and to understand them, I want to watch different TV programs. I think that in future I`ll get a possibility to visit USA or England. It would be interesting experience. I like to study English. I like to find out the origin of words, also I like to compare English and Russian words, often they are almost identical. English studying is very interesting and informative.

English in my life
There is a good quotation “how many languages you know so many times you are a man”. I think it is really so. I also think that persons should learn as much foreign languages as possible as it makes the outlook wider. Moreover knowing several foreign languages brings many opportunities to life. I know Ukrainian language as it is my mother tongue, Russian and English.
I would like to say that English plays a great role in our life. It is officially known international language so it even necessary to know it if you want to make a success in career. As for me English is a language of an exceptional importance. I like to read books. I read them all the time. English helps me to read them in original in order to dive deeper in the author’s world. I like to compare the text in English with the one in my native languages. This makes my imagination brighter and my speech more expressive.
Also I’m keen of music and it is quite important for me to know what this or that song is about. That is why I always find the words of the song I like in order to translate it as this helps me to understand better the meaning of it. Somebody may find it naive and funny but I’m strongly confident that English assists me in my self-development. It makes my brain work harder and develops my mental skills. I think it will help me a lot in future.

Long ago studying a foreign language was not necessary and people weren`t in need of it.In Shakespeare`s time English was spoken only by six million people and was a “provincial ” language. But now at the beginning of the 21st millenium probably one billion people speak English.But the situation has changed greatly thanks to the expansion of all types of ties between countries in the world. A person who has a good command of a foreign language feels at ease not only in his native country but abroad too.I remember a good quatation said by Gohnson ” language is the dress of thought”. These words dress our thoughts better. A foreign language will enable a person to read English books in the original, to communicate with foreigners, to participate in cultural and educational exchanges with other countries.
So, English plays a great role in our lives.People, who know foreign languages are necessary for the development of technics,economy and arts in modern society. People want to learn foreign languages to write their pen-friends or to communicate with them personally. People also want to read the works written by famous writers and also magazines in the original. Learning a foreign language is especially important in our country. As for me I am fond of English. I began studying it nine years ago and I have enjoyed my lessons since that time. I like everything in English: its pronunciation, its intonation, its songs and poetry. It`s a pity there is very few English classes at school. So, to improve my English I listen to the radio programmes, listen to the English songs and poems, I watch Englishfilms on TV, communicate with my English friend on the Internet, read compositions on the Internet and now as a result I am participating in the International competition in English. But the most important thing ,in my opinion, is speaking fluently. But it`s not an easy task as it might seen. That`s why I do all my best to learn English grammar well and to have good speaking skills.Certainly I haven`t mustered everything in English but I am absolutely sure that in a few years my command of the language will be perfect.
English is a wondreful language. The great German poet Goethe once said “He, who knows no foreign language, does not know his own one”.Indeed, knowledge of foreign language expands the knowledge of native one.And I fully agree that native language enrriches the knowledge of foreign languages.
So, if you want to be a well educated person and to succeed in your career study English and your world will become wider.

Итак, английский играет огромную роль в нашей жизни. Люди, которые знают иностранные языки, необходимы для развития техники, экономики и искусств в современном обществе. Люди хотят знать иностранные языки, чтобы переписыватся со своими друзьями и общаться с ними лично. Люди также хотят читать в оригинале произведения известных писателей.
Изучение иностранных языков особенно важно в нашей стране. Можно сделать вывод, что сегодня английский очень важен для каждого человека. Что касается меня я очень люблю английский. Я начала изучать его 9 лет назад и я получаю удовольствие от изучения этого языка. Мне все нравится в ангийском: произношение, интонация, песни и лирика. Жаль ,что очень мало уроков английского в школе. Чтобы улучшить зания в аглийском я слушаю радио передачи, английские песни и читаю стихи,смотрю английские фильмы по телевизору, общаюсь с иностранным другом по интерннету, читаю рассказы на английском, и, как результат, я участвую в международном конкурсе.
На мой взгляд самое важное – это говорить бегло. Это не легкая задача, как кажется на первый взгляд. Вот почему я делаю все возможное, чтобы выучить английскую грамматику и иметь хорошие навыки в говорении. Я еще не очень хорошо знаю язык, но я думаю, что через несколько лет я буду хорошо владеть им.
Английский – замечательный язык. Великий поэт Гетте однажды сказал:” Тот,кто не знает иностранного языка, тот не знает своего родного”. И в самом деле, знание иностранных языков расширяет знание родного. Я полностью согласна,что родной язык обогащает знание иностранного языка.
Итак, если вы хотите быть образованным человеком, успевать в свооей карьере – изучайте английский язык, и ваш мир станет богаче.

The modern world is becoming smaller all the time. Every day distances between different countries seem less. For this reason it’s becoming more and more important to know different languages, especially English.
One billion people speak English today. That’s about 20% of the world’s population. 400 million people speak English as their first language. For the other 600 million people it’s either a second language or a foreign language.
English is the first language in the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Australia and New Zealand. It is one of the official languages in Canada, the Irish Republic and the Republic of South Africa.
As a second language English is spoken in more than 60 countries. It is used by the government, businessmen and universities.
English is the language of politics and diplomacy, science and technology, business and trade, sport and pop music. 80% of all information in the world’s computers is in English. 75% of the world’s letters and faxes are in English. 60% of all international telephone calls are made in English. More than 60% of all scientific journals are written in English.
To know English today is absolutely necessary for every educated person, for every good specialist. Learning a language is not an easy thing. It’s a long and slow process that takes a lot of time and patience. But it’s a must.
English is taught throughout the world and a lot of people speak it quite well. In our country English is very popular: it is studied at schools (sometimes even at nursery schools), colleges and universities.
Everyone will speak English soon — I’m sure of it. We all need to understand each other. To do that we need an international language, and that’s English.
Nowadays English is one of the most important and widespread languages in the world. This is the state language in five countries: Great Britain, Canada, the USA, Australia and New Zealand.
Russia has political and economic relations with many countries. That’s why our country needs more and more people who can speak and understand English quite well. Besides, a lot of foreign delegations come to our country. Our businessmen, experts and tourists often go abroad. As I have already mentioned, English is the main language of international communication. That`s why it is so important to learn this language.
Nowadays foreign languages are studied in every possible way. Foreign language study groups are organized at industrial enterprises and at the educational establishments. To my mind, English is worth studying. There is a proverb: «A new language –a new more closer to me», but I understand that there will be much English in my life and I need to learn it, I need to practice it at school and in the Internet. English classes at my school are very interesting. I class I can learn many things that I can use in my future life.

Но, на мой взгляд, каждый хорошо образованный человек должен уметь говорить по-английски хотя бы на базовом уровне. Английский язык является языком общения, бизнеса, культуры и науки.

Наша страна нуждается все в большем и большем количестве специалистов, которые бы могли говорить и понимать по-английски. Кроме того, огромное количество делегаций приезжает в нашу страну. Наши бизнесмены, туристические и профессиональные работники часто выезжают границу. Как я уже говорил, английский язык является языком межнационального общения. Вот почему так важно знать его.
В настоящее время существует множество способов изучения иностранных языков. Иностранные языки изучают в группах, которые организуются в учебных центрах, по моему мнению, английский язык стоит того, чтобы его изучать. Существует пословица: «Новый язык это много нового и близкого для меня», но я понимаю, что для овладения английского языка необходимо потратить огромное количество времени, необходима практика в интернете и в школе. Уроки английского языка в моей школе очень интересны. Я могу изучить множество вещей, которые смогу использовать в моей будущей жизни.
Мой любимый предмет в школе – это английский язык. Я изучаю английский уже 5 лет. Сегодня английский занимает особое место в моей жизни. Изучение английского означает получение обширных знаний о целой культуре. Мы не только учимся, как писать, читать и говорить, но также узнаем о привычках и традициях англичан, открываем для себя разные страны, города и другое.
Я также хожу на дополнительные занятия по английскому языку. Благодаря им я теперь могу читать некоторые книги в оригинале. Чтение книг на английском помогает увеличить словарный запас и обогатить знания. Я надеюсь, что однажды я смогу прочитать мои любимые книги о Гарри Поттере на английском.
Я также люблю смотреть фильмы на английском языке. Устная речь и письменная речь – два совершенно разных понятия. Каждый человек имеет свою особенность речи. Иногда можно услышать диалекты, которые не так легко понять. Дома у меня есть небольшая коллекция фильмов на английском языке. Я уже просмотрел их несколько раз. Каждый раз, когда я смотрю фильм, я понимаю больше и больше. Я считаю, что просмотр фильмов на английском является отличным упражнением для тренировки слуха.
Помимо этого, я люблю слушать музыку. Я так рад, что сейчас я могу не только наслаждаться своей любимой музыкой, но и стараться понять, о чем эти песни.
Недавно я вступил в английский клуб. Это место, куда может прийти каждый, кому интересен английский язык. Там у меня уже появилось несколько друзей. Там есть небольшая библиотека с книгами и DVD-дисками, которые можно брать домой. Там также есть доска информации, на которой можно найти сообщения о предстоящих событиях на английском языке, которые будут происходить в городе. Скоро по исторической части города будут проводится прогулки с гидом на английском языке.
Я очень счастлив, что английский язык сделал мою жизнь такой интересной!
What is English at school? It is one of the most difficult subjects in a school curriculum. What is English in the world? It is one of the most popular languages. It helps to acquire a good education and profession. Is it a main reason to know English? Personally I think that that the process of learning English is really captivating. The language reflects rich culture and exciting history of Great Britain that attracts us by its mysteries.
One of such mysteries was the Stonehenge. It was made of earth and then of stone by ancient people living in Britain. It was during a pagan time. Modern scientistsdo not know how ancient people could bring very big stones to build it. Inside the Stonehenge there were wooden buildings. It was the centre of economic, religious and political power. Besides, it was used as a calendar. The Stonehenge was used to fix the rises of the Moon and Sunrises. This fact tells us about the importance of astrology for them.
Now people use sunny and lunar calendars too. May be it is reflected in the names of some days of the week. We can know from the planets` astrological characteristic that the Moon is a patroness of Monday, Saturn is a patron of Saturday and the Sun patronizes Sunday. The names of the planets look like the names of a week day very much, don’t they? Besides, the word “disaster” means in its spelling “something that has been done without co-ordination with stars”. A modern lunar calendar teaches us to follow the astrological forecast to avoid troubles. Another word “consider” means “to co-ordinate with stars”. It is so impressive!
In conclusion I can say that English language is like a whole sea of words, expressions and proverbs for me. They can tell us about many interesting facts from the life of British people. It is really nice if I can find something useful for myself. For instance, I agree with the opinion that it is necessary to live in harmony with nature and pay attention to stars:
I will have no disasters
Because I know exactly

Его знание помогает приобрести хорошее образование и профессию. Но является ли это главной причиной, чтобы знать язык? Лично я считаю, что процесс изучения английского очень увлекателен. Язык отражает богатую культуруи захватывающую историю Великобритании, которая привлекает своими загадками.
Одной из таких тайн был Стоунхендж. Его делали из земли, а затем и из камня древние жители Британии во времена язычества. Современные учёные не знают, как древние люди могли переносить очень большие камни для строительства. Внутри Стоунхенджа были деревянные постройки. Это был центр экономической, религиозной и политической силы. Кроме того, он играл роль календаря. Стоунхендж использовали для того, чтобы фиксировать восходы Луны и Солнца. Этот факт говорит о важности астрологии для древних людей.
Люди используют солнечный и лунный календари и по сей день. Может быть, это отразилось в названиях некоторых дней недели. Из астрологической характеристики планет мы можем узнать, что Луна это покровительница понедельника, Сатурн – покровитель субботы, а Солнце покровительствует воскресенью. Названия планет очень похожи на названия дней недели в английском языке, не правда ли? Кроме того, слово «несчастье» дословно значит: что-то, что сделано без оглядки на звёзды. Современный лунный календарь учит следовать астрологическим прогнозам, чтобы избежать неприятностей. Другое английское слово «размышлять», означает сообразовываться со звёздами. Это впечатляюще!
В заключении могу сказать, что английский язык для меня – это целое море слов, крылатых выражений, пословиц, в которых можно разгадать очень интересные факты из жизни британцев. Это прекрасно, если я смогу взять что-нибудь полезное для себя. Например, я согласна с тем, что жить нужно в гармонии с природой, обращая внимание на звёзды:

Я начала изучать язык с 11 лет. Мне он очень нравится. Но я также люблю свой родной русский язык. Великий немецкий поэт Гёте однажды сказал: «Тот, кто не знает иностранного языка, не знает и своего собственного». Я согласна с ним, все познается в сравнении. Знание английского языка помогает мне познавать русский язык.
Знание английского языка – это великая сила. Мне нужно знать английский язык. Я должна оценить и принять это знание, как ключ к достижению своей мечты. Я надеюсь, что мои успехи в английском будут хорошие.

My name is Denis. My surname is Ivanov. I live in Russia, in Astrakhan. Astrakhan is very old, but it`s a beautiful city. There is the Kremlin in our town. In the Kremlin there are seven towers, it has the pentagon form. In the old times all city was in the territory of the Kremlin, and around the river Volga. The river Volga is very beautiful, a lot of fish in it. I like to fish. Sometimes my family and I go fishing.
My family is my mum, my father and my brother. My brother is 4 years. His name is Dima. He is very cheerful and noisy. I have a grandmother, a grandfather and a great-grandmother. I like to visit them. My great-grandmother was at the Second World War. She hasa lot of medals. She is very kind and fair. She bakes tasty pies. I have got a cat. It`s name is Gerda. Gerda likes to sleep. She is fluffy and can purring.
My birthday is on October, 31st. I am 10 years. This year I had a birthday party at the caf?. There we ate pizza, and then played. We had a beautiful birthday cake. Ten candles burned on the cake. My friends presented me many gifts: books, games. My birthday party was cheerful and funny.
I study in Lyceum number two. I like to study there very much. In our Lyceum teachers are kind and good, and in my class I have many friends.
I like to read books. My favorite books are: “Harry Potter`s” and “Stalker”. I like to play the computer. On Saturdays and Sundays my family and I go to the cinema or walk, and in summer in parks and on beaches. We spend weekends well.
In summer I usually visit many interesting places. This summer I was in the city of Pyatigorsk. We went on excursions, were in the Museum of Butterflies and drank mineral water. We went on excursion to Kabardino-Balkaria by the bus. I visited Elbrus, the highest mountain. It was fine, but cold. It`s very interesting to see snow in summer. We were on Blue Lake. Water was blue and pure there. Then we visited a Thermal Lake. Th e lake had warm water. It` s medical.
Even this summer I went to the sanatorium in the city of Gelendzhik. It`s near the Black sea. I had a rest and was treated. We went to swim in the sea every day. It`s very beautiful there – the warm sea and the bright sun.

Foreign Languages in Our Life
Learning a foreign language isn’t an easy thing. Nowadays it’s especially important to know foreign languages.
Some people learn languages because they need them for their work, others travel abroad, for the third studying foreign languages is a hobby. Everyone, who knows foreign languages can speak to people from other countries, read foreign authors in the original, which makes your outlook wider.
I study English. It’s a long and slow process that takes a lot of time and efforts. Over 300 million people speak it is as a mother tongue.
The native speakers of English live in Great Britain, the United States of America, Australia and New Zealand. English is one of the official languages of the United Nations Organization and other political organizations.
English language is a wonderful language. It’s the language of the great literature. It’s the language of William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens and others. Half of the world’s scientific literature is in English. It’s the language of computers technology.
The great German poet Goethe once said, «He, who knows no foreign language, doesn’t know his own one ». That’s why in order to understand oneself and environment one has to learn foreign languages.
I think, that to know English today is absolutely necessary for every educated man, for every good specialist.

Learning a foreign language is a hard work. It is a long, sometimes boring and slow process. Every day you should devote your time and efforts to learning. The most difficult thing is that English is very different from your own. And of course a native language has a powerful influence on a person.
Eveyone asks when it is better to start studying. It is easy when you a child. You are open for knowledge and you think more about learning than about other problems. When you are an adult it isn’t so easy. It requires much patience, time, efforts. As for me I start learning at school. But I was fool and didn’t work hard. When I had entered the university I met a wounderful teacher of English. She made me learn this language. Today English and me are the best friends. I’d like to say some words about my studies. I had 3 lessons a week. I had to learn the ABC, transcription, sounds again. Then from lesson to lesson I learnt new words, grammar rules, conversational phrases. Some of them I learnt by heart. I tried to listen much in English. I watched films, different videos, listened to music in English. It helped me much. I read and translated texts every day, did many grammar exercises.
I’d like to give you some advice how to be succeed in studying. The most important thing is to be patient. You will see that you have to repeat new words again and again. When you are able to use them automatically, you should take another group and do the same. Some people have an idea if they memorise long list of vocabulary they will learn the language. It is much more. You have to put your attention to grammar. After you can use the grammatical structures, you can enrich your vocabulary.
I think learning foreign languages is very useful nowadays. You can communicate with people all over the world, you can know the culture and, of course, you will become a well-rounded and educated person. The more languages you speak, the more times you are a human being. So I can really say that English in my life plays a very important role. I have a good job with high salary. I can travel abroad and communicate with others without any problems. I can use internet easily , read different manuals and understand them. My outlook has become much wider. Of course, my english is not perfect. I have some problems. But I continue studying every day. Practice makes perfect.
In conclusion I’d like to admit that at first English may seem easy. But there is a bridge between basic knowledge and mastery. And it takes a long time across.
