As for me, I have made up my mind to be an engineer. As my parents are an engineers they have made a great influence on my choice and I can say that this profession runs the family. My choice of this occupation didn’t come as a sudden flash. I think that nowadays this profession is of great need and importance to our country. It is my aim to be a qualified specialist and to serve the interests of my country. To be a well prepared engineer I should have some important qualities: great capability persistence, knowledge of science and, of course, knowledge of foreign languages. In spite of these arguments we mustn’t forget about everybody’s vacation. I think that my facilities combined with the knowledge would be quiet enough to succeed in my work.

Choosing a career is not an easy matter. I am leaving school in two years and I haven’t yet decided which profession to choose.
There are a lot of interesting things in the world, so it is difficult to make the right choice.
In childhood I wanted to be a pilot, then I wanted to become a fireman. But now I have to think about my future career seriously. Some people are good at Maths, Physics and Biology, others enjoy History, Literature and Geography.

My mother says that I should choose my future occupation myself. But I am still not sure what to choose. Of course there are a lot of special books about different professions. In addition, a lot of universities and institutes have open house days, so I can go there and choose a good place for my future studies.
However, it is very difficult to enter a university. If you do not have money and if you are not a genius, you will never enter a good university or an institute. I have some friends who were in this situation and they had to choose a career not to their interests and liking.

The global trends of the dynamically developing world influence on the formation of the future professions. Formerly, the students might choose their future professions in the fifth or sixth classes, because the primary trends were obvious enough, but nowadays the ever-changing global market dictates its terms. My generation should choose the profession of the future, which are not existed right now. Thus, the issue of choosing a career is getting harder.
What tendencies should our generation draw attention to? There are three professional areas per minimum, which will need in the human resources. If you choose one of it, you will be able to adapt to the global changes and requirements of the market and you will have permanent field for your individual and professional advancement.
The information technology is the most popular and high-demand industry even now, and it will be on-fire specialty in the next ten and twenty years. The key factor is the tendency of automation and optimization of the labor. Accordingly, the most required profession of the near future will be connected with the soft engineering. But there are also several branches such as the industry of virtual entertainment, finances and economics, design or optimization for reduction of the manual labor.
The healthcare industry is steadily widened and need in new type specialists, first of all in the genetics. The genetic experiments for fighting against the health problems and different pathologies cannot be conducted without top experts.
For people, who care about the nature, fauna and flora, the professions in the ecology will be more preferable. Specialties in environmental protection will be also in-demand in several years, because the state of our planet is more than unsatisfied and need in emergency aid. Having chosen a career in ecology you will have a chance to save the Earth.

There are, of course, a lot of examples when people have changed their career paths in their twenties, thirties and even forties but, of course, it is better to make the right choice at the very beginning. The earlier you decide on what profession is interesting and rewarding for you, the more you can achieve during your lifetime.
Choosing a career is a challenging task indeed. It is all about finding the perfect match between your personality, interests, and skills. On the one hand, modern society, with its hundreds of professions and jobs, presents a vast range of future job opportunities. Industry and business, farming, science and education, medicine, service, arts and journalism are just a few professional fields a young person can specialize in. On the other hand, modern society with its crises, unemployment and inflation, makes a poor choice of profession a really bad mistake. You can choose a profession you really like, and face problems when looking for a job. Or you can find a job you like, but it will be underpaid. Besides, a young person’s parents usually have their own ideas of what career path to choose. Some parents are more democratic and let the child determine his future by himself. Some are oppressive and overprotective and try to force the child to make this or that career choice. In this case, they often try to compensate for their own dreams which have failed and the chances they have missed. Sometimes they see their child is gifted in some field and try to persuade him to choose this profession irrespective of the fact if he likes it or not.
In spite of all the problems mentioned above, the choice has to be made. To make it easier for the young people, there is some professional advice. It’s best for the young man to start this process as early as possible, ideally in the tenth form. You should determine if you would like to continue in higher education, or to learn a trade and look for a job. It’s up to the person to decide, but you should remember that to get more chances, you should strive for higher education which enables you to be qualified for skilled labour. You should determine what you might like to study or major in at college. You might like to try some of these career assessment tests to help with this step. One of the most difficult decisions in our life is choosing what to do for a living when we grow up. Finishing school means starting independent lives and choosing one of the roads: a technical school or a university. Starting our life with a right profession is very important because the future of young people depends on this choice. That is why they must choose it with utmost care analyzing all pros and cons. Besides our friends and older relatives can influence our choice or just give a good piece of advice.
It isn’t easy to find a good job. You could be a very pleasant personality but still the employers won’t give you the position of your dream if you don’t have proper qualifications for that kind of job. Let me introduce myself. My name is Masha. I have left school this year. It is my dream to become a student of the English department. I want to study English, German and maybe French.
Knowledge of a foreign lanquage opens a new world for us. If you know a foreign language, you can speak with foreigners and it is a way to better understanding. If you know a foreign language you can read books in the original, and it is a way to better understanding of other people’s nature and culture.
In our country children study different foreign languages. At school I took up English. I read stories by English, American and Australian writers. It has become my habit to read English books in adapted form every day. I learn poems and do a lot of grammar exercises. Now I know I must work hard to master English. Studying the English language under the guidance of the University teachers I want to learn much about the history of words, their origin and usage in ancient times. For example; the word «window» is made of two very old Anglo-Saxon words, such as «wind’ and «eye». The word «window» means «the wind’s eye». It tells us of the time when a window was only a hole in the wall, and the wind used to come through it.
When I finish my studies, I’ll begin teaching in a secondary school. I think I’ll enjoy the work greatly. Teaching is a noble profession. In modern times all kinds of specialists need foreign languages in their work — teachers, doctors, engineers and people in many other professions. If a specialist doesn’t know a foreign language he can’t use all the foreign books which he needs in his work. I want to teach my pupils to read English books in the original, so they won’t depend on translations.

Choosing a career is like any other activity: it is best to work to a plan. Too many people start looking for a specific job before thinking out their occupational aims. It is a good idea to begin by attempting to define in clear terms what your requirements are from a career. This involves taking a realistic view of your strengths and weaknesses. You may think for example, that you would like a job which involves organizing people, but liking such a job is not a sufficient justification if experience you already have may suggests that this is not your strong point. On the other hand, you should remember that training will equip you to do new things.
A further point to consider is how far you will be willing to do for a time things which you do not like knowing that they are necessary to achieve your longer term objectives. Having thought carefully about the sort of person you are, try to work out a realistic set of occupational requirements. In particular, you can answer to important questions. First: What sort of life do you want to lead? For example, do you want to live in the country or in the town? Is leisure time of great importance to you? Is the size of your salary important? Do you want to put down roots or travel widely? Second: What sort of work do you want to do? For example, do you like working alone or with others? Does teaching people appeal to you? Do you want to be an organizer of other people’s activities? Do you want to develop new ideas and initiate changes?
As for me, I have made up my mind to be an engineer. As my parents are engineers, they have made a great influence on my choice and I can say that this profession runs the family. My choice of this occupation didn’t come as a sudden flash. I think that nowadays this profession is of great need and importance to our country. It is my aim to be a qualified specialist and to serve the interests of my country. To be a well prepared engineer I should have some important qualities: great capability persistence, knowledge of science and of course knowledge of foreign languages. In spite of these arguments we mustn’t forget about everybody’s vacation. I think that my facilities combined with the knowledge would be quiet enough to succeed in my work.

Finishing school means the independent life for millions of
school-leavers. Many roads are open before them: technical
schools, colleges and universities. But it is not an easy thing
to choose a profession out of thousands! Some pupils follow
their parents’ advice; others can not make any decision after

In childhood I wanted to be a spaceman; then I dreamed of
becoming a policeman. Only a few years ago I started thinking
about my future career seriously. Life is quite difficult, but I
want to have an interesting job and would like it to be
connected with different countries and people. That is why I
decided to become an interpreter. I am good at foreign
languages. My favourite language is English. I like watching

points”. I have some friends who did not get enough points to
enter the universities they wanted, so they had to choose other
places to study or pay for their education.

deciding, or start working. For young men the situation is
difficult because they may be taken to the Army that is why a
lot of them enter any institute or university just not to become
soldiers.
Sometimes young people choose a career to their liking, they

occupation they chose is not what they really want, so they get
poor marks and have to leave the university.

To be a well prepared engineer I should have some important qualities: great capability persistence, knowledge of science and, of course, knowledge of foreign languages. In spite of these arguments we mustn’t forget about everybody’s vacation. I think that my facilities combined with the knowledge would be quiet enough to succeed in my work.

The global trends of the dynamically developing world influence on the formation of the future professions. Formerly, the students might choose their future professions in the fifth or sixth classes, because the primary trends were obvious enough, but nowadays the ever-changing global market dictates its terms. My generation should choose the profession of the future, which are not existed right now. Thus, the issue of choosing a career is getting harder.
What tendencies should our generation draw attention to? There are three professional areas per minimum, which will need in the human resources. If you choose one of it, you will be able to adapt to the global changes and requirements of the market and you will have permanent field for your individual and professional advancement.
The information technology is the most popular and high-demand industry even now, and it will be on-fire specialty in the next ten and twenty years. The key factor is the tendency of automation and optimization of the labor. Accordingly, the most required profession of the near future will be connected with the soft engineering. But there are also several branches such as the industry of virtual entertainment, finances and economics, design or optimization for reduction of the manual labor.
The healthcare industry is steadily widened and need in new type specialists, first of all in the genetics. The genetic experiments for fighting against the health problems and different pathologies cannot be conducted without top experts.
For people, who care about the nature, fauna and flora, the professions in the ecology will be more preferable. Specialties in environmental protection will be also in-demand in several years, because the state of our planet is more than unsatisfied and need in emergency aid. Having chosen a career in ecology you will have a chance to save the Earth.

There are, of course, a lot of examples when people have changed their career paths in their twenties, thirties and even forties but, of course, it is better to make the right choice at the very beginning. The earlier you decide on what profession is interesting and rewarding for you, the more you can achieve during your lifetime.
Choosing a career is a challenging task indeed. It is all about finding the perfect match between your personality, interests, and skills. On the one hand, modern society, with its hundreds of professions and jobs, presents a vast range of future job opportunities. Industry and business, farming, science and education, medicine, service, arts and journalism are just a few professional fields a young person can specialize in. On the other hand, modern society with its crises, unemployment and inflation, makes a poor choice of profession a really bad mistake. You can choose a profession you really like, and face problems when looking for a job. Or you can find a job you like, but it will be underpaid. Besides, a young person’s parents usually have their own ideas of what career path to choose. Some parents are more democratic and let the child determine his future by himself. Some are oppressive and overprotective and try to force the child to make this or that career choice. In this case, they often try to compensate for their own dreams which have failed and the chances they have missed. Sometimes they see their child is gifted in some field and try to persuade him to choose this profession irrespective of the fact if he likes it or not.
In spite of all the problems mentioned above, the choice has to be made. To make it easier for the young people, there is some professional advice. It’s best for the young man to start this process as early as possible, ideally in the tenth form. You should determine if you would like to continue in higher education, or to learn a trade and look for a job. It’s up to the person to decide, but you should remember that to get more chances, you should strive for higher education which enables you to be qualified for skilled labour. One of the most difficult decisions in our life is choosing what to do for a living when we grow up. Finishing school means starting independent lives and choosing one of the roads: a technical school or a university. Starting our life with a right profession is very important because the future of young people depends on this choice. That is why they must choose it with utmost care analyzing all pros and cons. Besides our friends and older relatives can influence our choice or just give a good piece of advice.
It isn’t easy to find a good job. You could be a very pleasant personality but still the employers won’t give you the position of your dream if you don’t have proper qualifications for that kind of job. So it’s essential to analyze what education and what skills are required for your job. To be good at computers and to have a good command of English is absolutely necessary for modern jobs.

Let me introduce myself. My name is Masha. I have left school this year. It is my dream to become a student of the English department. I want to study English, German and maybe French.
Knowledge of a foreign lanquage opens a new world for us. If you know a foreign language, you can speak with foreigners and it is a way to better understanding. If you know a foreign language you can read books in the original, and it is a way to better understanding of other people’s nature and culture.
In our country children study different foreign languages. At school I took up English. I read stories by English, American and Australian writers. It has become my habit to read English books in adapted form every day. I learn poems and do a lot of grammar exercises. Now I know I must work hard to master English. Studying the English language under the guidance of the University teachers I want to learn much about the history of words, their origin and usage in ancient times. For example; the word «window» is made of two very old Anglo-Saxon words, such as «wind’ and «eye». The word «window» means «the wind’s eye». It tells us of the time when a window was only a hole in the wall, and the wind used to come through it.
When I finish my studies, I’ll begin teaching in a secondary school. I think I’ll enjoy the work greatly. Teaching is a noble profession. In modern times all kinds of specialists need foreign languages in their work — teachers, doctors, engineers and people in many other professions. If a specialist doesn’t know a foreign language he can’t use all the foreign books which he needs in his work. I want to teach my pupils to read English books in the original, so they won’t depend on translations.
I hope I’ve chosen the right profession.

Позвольте представиться. Меня зовут Маша. Я закончила школу в этом году. Моя мечта — стать студенткой факультета английского языка. Я хочу изучать английский, немецкий и французский языки.
Знание иностранного языкаоткрываетнамновый мир. Если вы знаете иностранный язык, то можете разговаривать с иностранцами и это помогает лучше понимать друг друга. Если вы знаете иностранный язык, вы можете читать книги в оригинале, и это помогает лучше понять характер и культуру другого народа.
В нашей стране дети изучают различные иностранные языки. В школе я изучала английский язык. Я читаю рассказы английских, американских, австралийских писателей. У меня вошло в привычку каждый день читать адаптированные книги на английском языке. Я учу стихотворения и делаю много грамматических упражнений. Я знаю сейчас, что я должна много работать, чтобы овладеть английским языком. Изучая английский язык под руководством преподавателей университета, я хочу многое узнать о происхождении слов и их употреблении в давние времена. Например, слово «окно» состоит их двух древних англо-саксонских слов, таких как «ветер» и «глаз». Слово «окно» означает «глаз ветра». Оно говорит о том времени, когда окном была дыра в стене, и через нее часто дул ветер.
Когда я закончу учебу, я начну преподавать в общеобразовательной школе. Я думаю, что получу огромное удовольствие от работы. Учитель — это благородная профессия. В наше время всем специалистам надо знать иностранные языки — учителям, инженерам и людям других профессий. Если специалист не знает иностранный язык, он не может пользоваться всеми книгами на иностранном языке, которые ему нужны для работы. Я хочу научить моих учеников читать английские книги в оригинале, чтобы они не зависели от переводов.
Я надеюсь, что сделала правильный выбор.

Чтобы разобраться в этом нелегком деле, рекомендуется ответить на ряд вопросов, может быть тогда ответ станет более ясным. Есть семьи, в которых определенная профессия становится выбором для многих поколений и создаются так называемые «династии». В таких семьях детям с раннего возраста прививается любовь и уважение к профессии родителей, и для таких детей выбор профессии не создаст в будущем никаких хлопот.
Choosing a career is like any other activity: it is best to work to a plan. Too many people start looking for a specific job before thinking out their occupational aims. It is a good idea to begin by attempting to define in clear terms what your requirements are from a career. This involves taking a realistic view of your strengths and weaknesses. You may think for example, that you would like a job which involves organizing people, but liking such a job is not a sufficient justification if experience you already have may suggests that this is not your strong point. On the other hand, you should remember that training will equip you to do new things.
A further point to consider is how far you will be willing to do for a time things which you do not like knowing that they are necessary to achieve your longer term objectives. Having thought carefully about the sort of person you are, try to work out a realistic set of occupational requirements. In particular, you can answer to important questions. First: What sort of life do you want to lead? For example, do you want to live in the country or in the town? Is leisure time of great importance to you? Is the size of your salary important? Do you want to put down roots or travel widely? Second: What sort of work do you want to do? For example, do you like working alone or with others? Does teaching people appeal to you? Do you want to be an organizer of other people’s activities? Do you want to develop new ideas and initiate changes?
As for me, I have made up my mind to be an engineer. As my parents are engineers, they have made a great influence on my choice and I can say that this profession runs the family. My choice of this occupation didn’t come as a sudden flash. I think that nowadays this profession is of great need and importance to our country. It is my aim to be a qualified specialist and to serve the interests of my country. To be a well prepared engineer I should have some important qualities: great capability persistence, knowledge of science and of course knowledge of foreign languages. In spite of these arguments we mustn’t forget about everybody’s vacation. I think that my facilities combined with the knowledge would be quiet enough to succeed in my work.
Choosing a
Career
Finishing school means the independent life for millions of
school-leavers. Many roads are open before them: technical
schools, colleges and universities. But it is not an easy thing
to choose a profession out of thousands! Some pupils follow
their parents’ advice; others can not make any decision after
leaving school.
In childhood I wanted to be a spaceman; then I dreamed of
becoming a policeman. Only a few years ago I started thinking
about my future career seriously. Life is quite difficult, but I
want to have an interesting job and would like it to be
connected with different countries and people. That is why I
decided to become an interpreter. I am good at foreign
languages. My favourite language is English. I like watching
films and reading books in the original.
I think the questions- young people should ask themselves are:
What am I interested in? and What do I want to be? When they
find the answers, they will have the goal to achieve. If you are
good at a particular subject and you want your profession to be
connected with it, it is important that you study it seriously.
My father wants me to follow in his footsteps and become a
physicist. But I am not interested in medicine and I am not good
at Chemistry or Biology. As they say, medicine is “not my cup of
tea”.
Another problem is entering a university. Russian National Exam
which school-leavers have to pass at the end of the 11th form is
rather difficult, so you have to study really hard to get a
necessary number of exam points to enter a university. Moreover,
different universities have different number of “acceptance
points”. I have some friends who did not get enough points to
enter the universities they wanted, so they had to choose other
places to study or pay for their education.
However, some young people do not know which career to choose
even after they “finish school, so they have to waste time
deciding, or start working. For young men the situation is
difficult because they may be taken to the Army that is why a
lot of them enter any institute or university just not to become
soldiers.
Sometimes young people choose a career to their liking, they
enter a university and after some time they realise that the
occupation they chose is not what they really want, so they get
poor marks and have to leave the university.
The problem of choosing a career is very widespread among young
people and they should think about their future seriously before
making any decisions.
