My parents have always told me that I should choose my future occupation in advance. That’s why I knew I was going to become an engineer already when studying at the secondary school. It is connected with many aspects. First of all, my granddad was also an engineer. Secondly, my teachers say I have necessary abilities for becoming a professional engineer. Thirdly, I’m sure having such education one can get a prestigious job. One of the institutions in my region that prepares engineers is the Petersburg State Transport University. My parents would be happy if I enter this university. It will give me many opportunities for career development. I have always had a talent for maths and physics. I enjoy working with facts and figures, solving problems. So, I see engineering as the perfect extension of these talents. I hope that after studying at the university I will be able to apply my knowledge to real world situations and bring benefits to the society. They say that the university, where I want to study, educates engineers, who build and maintain railroads throughout our large country. At the moment I’m a high-school student and I get ready for my final exams. If I pass them successfully, my chances to become a student of engineering faculty notably increase. Not only men in my family have been involved in this profession. One of my aunts, who lives in Moscow, is also a professional engineer. She promised to help me with practical part, when needed. Nowadays it is hard to become a successful person without a higher education and thus a dispute arises between people over where a student should study: abroad or in a native country. Let us figure it out!
As for me, I think Russia does not fall behind other countries in providing good universities, so it is the best option for Russian students to go into local universities. Furthermore, studying in a native country is easier in a sense that a person does not have to learn a foreign language or get used to a new environment. Finally, going abroad for a long term always means huge changes because one will have to get along well with the food, culture and climate, and no one knows if a person can go through these challenges.
On the other hand, some people claim that studying abroad has a lot of advantages. Firstly, a student can easily improve the language skills a country speaks in. Secondly, a long-term separation from a native country develops such character qualities as independence, confidence and courage because there are so many things a person has to cope with in a foreign country.
I cannot agree with these people. Learning a foreign language is indeed easier and faster in a native country, but how many dangerous situations a person can get involve in while in a foreign country. There is also a high risk of getting into trouble because a student cannot know everything about the country he or she studies in.
To sum up, I would say that getting a good education totally depends on a person. I believe if a student wants to be successful and happy, the native country is ready to give the best education and environment a person desperately needs.
My School

I study in the seventh grade. I normally have six lessons and spend most part of my day at school. I really love my school. Teachers are understanding and kind there. When I do not understand something they are always ready to explain it to me one more time individually after the lesson. I appreciate it that all teachers have a unique approach to everyone. Moreover, a lot of teachers try to make the educational process more interesting for us. They organize different interactive lessons and give us some tasks where we can demonstrate our creativity. My classmates are friendly and helpful. We always support each other. After lessons, we very often spend time together. In our school, there is a special zone where we can sit, communicate with each other and play some games. I am really happy that atmosphere in my school is so amicable.
Я учусь в седьмом классе. Обычно у меня шесть уроков и провожу большую часть моего дня в школе. Я очень люблю свою школу. Учителя относятся с пониманием и добрые. Когда я что-то не понимаю, они всегда готовы объяснить мне еще раз индивидуально после урока. Я ценю, что все преподаватели имеют уникальный подход к каждому. Более того, многие учителя стараются сделать образовательный процесс более интересным для нас. I also appreciate the fact that level of education in my school is really high. Core subjects in my school are languages. We have an opportunity to learn 2 foreign languages. Pupils from our school pass international exams in English and German successfully. Also, there are winners of different stages of all-Russian school Olympiad in the English language.

For instance, I know for sure that I will never need Geometry in my life. I am going to be an interpreter or a tour guide, and dedicate my life to travelling and communicating with people. I don’t consider myself to be stupid, but I really can’t cope with all these figures, theorems and integrals – I just have no gift for Mathematics. And I don’t understand why on earth I should waste time and efforts on this useless stuff! It is commonly believed that schoolchildren are too small to choose, because they don’t know what subjects they will need in future. Yes, I agree that they are too small in primary school, but we, tenth-graders are old enough to make a choice. However, I will have to pass a Unified State Exam on Math, which is a compulsory subject, and it’s more than likely that I will spoil my school-leaving certificate with a bad mark.

I study at tenth Grade of school. I have not decided yet what to do after the ending of education at school. I shall go to university immediately after exams.
To get a job or do a gap year are not suitable options for me. Of course, I can work and study at the same time, but it is too difficult and I do not need it, because I shall live with my parents and they can ensure me and, most likely, I shall get scholarship, so I shall be able to save up money or to buy things for me.
I do not understand sense of waiting for a year before going to university. On the one hand, youcan earn money to pay for university or travel, but without facilities. Also, a gap year is suitable for boys, because they have to go to army, but I am a girl and I have not to do it.
On the whole, I would like to say that going to university after school is the most common decision of students in our country, because you can continue studying and then find a well-paid job. But everyone decides for himself, depending on the possibilities and the circumstances.
Я учусь в десятом классе в школе. Я уже решила, что буду делать после окончания школы. Я пойду в университет сразу после экзаменов.
Работать или взять академ год – это не подходящие для меня варианты. Конечно, я могу работать и учиться одновременно, но это очень сложно, и я не нуждаюсь в этом, потому что я буду жить с родителями, и они могут обеспечить меня и, скорее всего, я буду получать стипендию, так что я смогу копить деньги или покупать некоторые вещи для себя.
