  1. Moving abroad is very exciting

Especially when your life has become monotonous, nothing beats leaving everything behind and moving away. It’s great to discover a new world, sometimes completely different from your own and to discover other ways of doing things.

You meet lots of new people and make new friends.

You often meet people from different cultures and from all walks of life.

You travel to many fabulous places

Every new country offers new travel opportunities and it’s a chance to see the world!

A great opportunity to change your job or learn something new

If you move abroad and need to look for a new job then this may be a good time to try something new.
Certainly if you are a spouse traveling with your partner then this could be a great opportunity to study again or finally focus on those goals that you always wanted to achieve but never had time for.
I took the chance to start up my own business and finally created this site, which is now my full-time thriving business. It’s ideal since it’s totally web-based and I can take it with me, no matter where my travels take me!

Your children will be exposed to different cultures and they will accept that we are all different but yet the same

If you travel abroad with children then chances are that they will attend international schools. This can be a very enriching experience for them as classes usually have children from all over the world.
This will give them a much better understanding of other cultures and will make them a world-citizen from the get-go.

    You become a world citizen

You tend to get more open minded and realise that there is not just one way of doing things.
You realise that we live in a global world and it just makes more sense to work together, as in the end, we all have the same needs and wants. The world is your oyster!
Ok so we have seen some great advantages of moving abroad but what is the downside?

    The downside

Moving abroad can be very unsettling

Many things will be very different from your home country and you have to learn how things get done in your new country.
Buying simple things can be a real challenge and finding new friends may be difficult.
No matter how experienced you are moving countries you will always experience some kind of ‘culture shock’. It takes time to get used to your new place and the more you have done it before the easier it will be to adjust in another new country.
However, if you are able to go with the flow and accept that normal things will take a lot longer you will start to feel settled again after a while.

You will be away from friends and family

Although it is easier today to keep in contact with friends and family it can still be hard to be so far away from them.
Even when you visit them at home they often can’t relate to your life and part of your connection may be lost. Make sure that you keep in regular contact with your friends and use Skype to keep up-to-date on even the little day-to-day things. And of course encourage them to visit!

It can put a lot of pressure on your relationship

As moving to a new culture can be very unsettling as described above, it can sometimes cause friction in a relationship.
Certainly when one of you is busy with their new job and the other is home alone with no support network.
It’s important to realise this and make very clear commitments to one another. Discuss all the possible consquences before you go and make some clear agreements on how to support eachother.
Many things will change when you move abroad and it is better to discuss possible scenarios of any issues that you can foresee before you make the decision to move abroad.

You and your children may lose their sense of ‘home’

If living abroad has been a success and you are now away for quite a while from your home country you lose your sense of home.
If you go back on holiday to your home country you may find that you no longer understand it all and sometimes you may not want to go back.
This issue can also be very difficult for children who have no sense of belonging any more. We all identify with where we come from and that is harder to do when you have moved around and lived in several places.
You can read more in my article on raising kids in foreign country and the challenges of third culture kids.
This list is not extensive as there are plenty more pros and cons but this will give you an idea.
In the end you will need to make up your mind if the positives outweigh the negatives. For myself it has been a rewarding experience and I can definitely recommend it.
I will write again on this topic to explore the long-term effects of children that grew up abroad in a different culture to their own. They are sometimes referred to as third culture kids.

My relatives and friends live in Russia, I have adjusted and adapted to the life in Russia.
But to make a career in Russia is difficult. I think that in Russia there are low wages and low living standards. The situation looks different abroad. Therefore, the life abroad attracts me. We may start a new life abroad. We need to get used to the foreign language, the culture, customs, morals, laws of another country. We will have to adapt to a new place, a new country, a new city, a new home. We will have to fall in love with this country.
To make a career abroad is not easy. I think you need to have higher education, to be an expert in your profession, to know a foreign language, to be enthusiastic, and have a character and a strong desire.
Abroad there are high salaries, high living standards…
Everyone will choose his own priorities and decide where to live. In the world there are people for whom to change anything in their life is unacceptable, and someone will gladly change anything. Some people think that Russia is a developed civilized country. Other people see a lot of problems in the Russian society. Some people want to live in Ryazan and Moscow, others would prefer to live in London, Berlin, or Washington.
I think that it is better to live abroad.

  3. Nowadays many people want to live abroad. There are a lot of reasons for going to live to another country, like studying, business, etc. Many people believes that better better jobs and living are found in foreign countries than their own.
The advantages of working and living abroad consist of various factors. First, in many developed countries you can find diverse people and cultures. Learning and experiencing this diversity can be fascinating and wonderfull. In addition, if people lives with mixed population, they will be able to learn new languages, styles of dressing as well as cultural activities. However, living problems will be forget behind . Moreover, people can gain excellent knowledge and experience in jobs can be very beneficial, particularly back in home. These make people more equipped and attractive for their future jobs.
.Despite the above advantages of working and living abroad, there are also disadvantages with working and living abroad. The lack of language is one of the major problem for new foreigners in many of the developed countries. This difficulty to understand the language hinders their progress and adaptation to the new life style and environment.

  4. Advantages and disadvantages of living abroad
There is an inestimable number of people, who leave every year their homeland, experiencing day by day on their own skin those which are the advantages and disadvantages of living abroad. The reasons which had led them to make this drastic decision could be the more disparate: marriage, military service, studies, work requirement, political and religious motivations or merely a desire of freedom. Whatever your story is, it makes any difference when you are an expatriate, because there is something that goes beyond cultural diversities that is the experience of leaving. When you go abroad, the first impact is always the hardest because you have to confront with a new reality which sometimes can appear exciting, sometimes totally strange and difficult to be accepted or understood. However living abroad offers a plenty of pros: first of all, you have a huge opportunity to know closely a new culture and a different way of thinking in a way that you could not have experienced if you hadn’t been there. You can see with you own eyes how everyday life unfolds, how people behave and manage situations, how the living conditions in a State with another government are. Second, you can learn a new language or improve your communication skills just because you are surrounded by that language and by native speakers. Third, you can make new friendships and meet lots of interesting people establishing with them a multicultural exchange. In addition to this, living abroad can be a trampoline for your career and a way to gain several productive working experiences; indeed you could find abroad a more favorable and prosperous field to go forward professionally. Nevertheless living so far from your home land can show some cons as well, which are not to be underestimated: one of these is the homesickness, especially during the first month you could feel the need of having your family as close as possible, because everything around you, from language to the new environment can disorient you and make you feel insecure and unprotected. Besides, you have to face some inconveniences of being a foreign: the different public office and shop hours, different bureaucracy and rules, even the new language can lead up to frustrating misunderstandings. Finally the worse disadvantage of living abroad could be the sensation of being a stranger or of being considered like a stranger, consequently I really consider integration the hardest challenge both for an expatriate and the local people. In conclusion, to live abroad can offer you a new exciting life where you can be whatever you want, new perspectives, a new start and a sense of freedom, but the price you have to pay if high. You will be always aware that your identity is fractured in two pieces, a part of which lying silent and asleep; it belongs to your native soil, and sometimes it bring your thoughts so far away in order to live once again. Living abroad is a choice for strong people who will be able to accept this life experience with its pros and cons.

  6. Now I will try to prove my point of view. Firstly, I think, that living conditions are better abroad. Flats are of a good quality. Flats are also cheaper, that flats in Russia. Secondly, education is better abroad. Although I can not but stress, that a lot of Russian specialists go abroad, because they are in great demand in foreign countries. There are a lot of opportunities to study school subject abroad. Thirdly, I think, that parks and streets are well looked after. Public services work better than Russian. People take care of the places where they live. Foreigners are well brought up.
People in some foreign countries are more quiet and friendly. Some people in Russia are rude and bad-mannered. I cannot say that all people in Russia are bad, but in my country I often meet such people. There are a lot of criminal situations. Crime is common in Russia. Many Russian people go abroad because they can find a good and highly paid job there.
But there is another point of view on the problem. Some people are absolutely sure that life is better in Motherland. Maybe, I could agree with it, as in homeland there are our close people, your friends. There are a lot of sights around you in our country. Every city in Russia has famous monuments, museums, buildings and structures. Every person should help his own country, that is for the common wealth.
I do not agree with these people. There are o lot of wonderful and interesting sights abroad.
So in conclusion I would like to stress that I think, that life is better abroad. But this problem is very serious and everyone has a right to have his opinion.

Thousands of people emigrate annually. For many, living and working abroad for extended periods of time becomes the adventure of a lifetime. Many set off to unknown lands to fill a gap of time in their lives, improve their fluency in a foreign language, meet new and interesting people, and build self-reliance. The reasons for emigration are quite different: political or religious persecution, poverty, awful living conditions, climate and many more. But the fact is that people take the plunge in search of better life. Decent conditions and the opportunity to spend more time together as a family attract them in spite of the threat of being frustrated very soon. However, I’m sure that living in a foreign country can be rather interesting, and yet has its disadvantages also.
The experience can be so powerful, and alter the traveller’s way of thinking so greatly, that he can lose his cultural identity. If one integrates into a new society, he or she will almost certainly meet difficulties when they try to readjust later to their own culture. Another potential problem is that one may become a victim of discrimination, and lose their confidence as a result. Since the behaviour and customs of the guests may be very different from those of the inhabitants of the host culture, they may encounter negative reactions – unfriendliness, or even hostility, for example. However, no matter what the reasons are for working or living abroad, you are bound to meet many interesting characters, collect a wealth of tales to bring back home (well, if you are happy to return, of course!) and learn a lot more about yourself.
Any way, I don’t approve of living in a foreign country. As I see it, you should work for the country that you were born in, that has brought you up, educated you. That’s why I see emigration as somehow unfair. Being homesick can also be a reason. As for me, I wouldn’t feel at home. So I guess that saying “Home Sweet Home” has a stronger meaning than meets the eye!

  10. Hi Everyone,
Last week, I wrote an essay about Living abroad. However, my teacher thinks my essay needs to improve. In fact, I think it’s good essay and I tried to do my best. Now, I hope you help me to correction this essay.
    Living in a Foreign Country.
Living abroad is a tempting opportunity for people that could lead to gain a lot of useful experiences and valuable knowledge. However, Living in a foreign country can be an experience both exhilarating and daunting. A t the same time, it would be new experience and memorable days, but through this period of time these will not be ordinary days. People who lived away from their countries usually face some effect, this essay aims to mention the three most common effects of living in a foreign country that can change people’s personal lives.
The major effect, and also a very common one, is missing anything that reminding you of both your family and hometown. Living away from your family sometimes district your attention and makes you feel homesick. Especially, when you face up some issue which you are unable to resolve and lacked to whose support. That supposedly would makes you realize how valuable your family is. Furthermore, the simple things would remind you where you belong such as a bird’s song, trees blowing in the wind, sunrise, calm night, people’ speech, and all of the community life around you.
The second main effect is acquiring the knowledge to how accept culture and traditions of foreign societies. Living abroad would be allow you to wander in values and habits which are totally different of yours. Thus, it will be opportunity to develop your opinion for societies and accepting different opinions that will make you be able to achieve the truth knowledge. Furthermore, the knowing and access to other culture is sponsor to gives you open- minded. Whatever, these things would makes you be sticking to your most important values and be able to change and improve which needs to be improved, according to what you believe.
The third and perhaps most important effect is personal development and learning a new language. Living away from home ,makes you more confident and independent, is building up the independent behavior inside of you. You have to do everything and solve your problem by yourself. It is also be responsible of organizing your life and achieve your goals. In addition, you would be able to learn a new language to become able to communicate with people in the foreign country. Apart from that, the language may have different grammar or pronunciation, so you should study a lot of things. However, people who are bilingual have a better ability to think.
Living abroad brings a lot of hard things and it could gives some people a new life. Living far from family could be sometimes difficult in your life, but on the other hand it would be to lead you to get new knowledge, such as how to accept cultures and traditions of other societies. Living abroad is a rare opportunity that you should get all of its benefits.

    * My teacher makes note about the second body which is third paragraph , she wrote:
“very confusing paragraph. You are trying to say that acquiring the knowledge of a new culture will help you learn new values and will also make your own values stronger”.

  11. Сочинение на тему “Some people think that you can master the language only if you study it abroad, in the native speaking environment”.
    by Ildar
Nowadays there are many methods of learning foreign languages. Some people think that the best way to master a foreign language is to go abroad. Others believe improving language skills can be reached without leaving a native country.
In my opinion, learning foreign languages is possible even without going abroad. Firstly, a person can easily find textbooks for studying; if they are written in a context that makes it easy to understand, the first steps of learning will be easy and fast. Secondly, due to the Internet one can find movies, articles, videos, books in the language he or she is interested in, so the learning process will not be boring. Finally, one of the best methods of improving a foreign language that does not cost a penny is Skype; this program allows to do voice and video calls with people around the world and thus can easily help improve pronunciation, speaking and listening skills.
On the other hand, some people claim that only a native speaking environment enables a person to improve language skills fully and profoundly. In their mind, being surrounded by people who speak a foreign will for sure make the process of learning a lot easier and faster.
I cannot agree with these people. Even though learning a foreign language abroad is faster, there are so many difficulties and problems a person will have to cope with, and no one can guarantee everything will be alright.
To sum up, I would say that learning a foreign language totally depends on a person. If he or she is determined to gain success in learning languages, this person will do the best to achieve great results.
