My name is Sabina. I’m a ninth grade student at a secondary school. I think that all people at certain stages of life face some problems and I’m not an exception. This academic year was rather tough. We had some new and difficult subjects coming. Besides, this year was marked by a number of state exams, so I had to study hard at my free time to pass them with good points. All in all, I’m a happy person. I have a loving and caring family. I have good friends and classmates. School teachers are kind to me, so I have nothing to complain about. But these exams are probably the only worrying problem for me. Knowing how important they are, I’ve partially lost my appetite, I became rather nervous and stressed. My mum says that it’s going to be alright and that everyone one way or another passes them. I believe her, because she was also a decent student while studying at school and university. My problem is that I want to pass them with excellent marks, especially the Biology and Chemistry tests. I’m planning to enter the medical college next year, so it is very important for me. Maths and Russian tests are also going to be hard, but I’m well prepared for them. Other than exams, perhaps, every teen faces rapport problems with parents. Yes, I agree that they are too small in primary school, but we, tenth-graders are old enough to make a choice. However, I will have to pass a Unified State Exam on Math, which is a compulsory subject, and it’s more than likely that I will spoil my school-leaving certificate with a bad mark.

Nowadays we are often told that young generation is absolutely impolite and disorganized. As for me, I partially agree with this opinion as there are various facts that support it.
To begin with, teenagers are reluctant to listen to their parents` advices because teens are absolutely convinced that they are always right and consequently do not need any help. They feel like looking independent and confident but, of course, in fact they can neither live on their own nor manage with all difficulties themselves. Moreover, teenagers are often very selfish and self-absorbed. They think, they are much better than other people. They do not understand thatthe way you treat people – you will be treated by them. In addition, I strongly believe that teenagers` behavior is influenced by mass media. Today most of young people have TV-sets as well as computers with permanent Internet connection in their bedrooms. Therefore, despite the fact that a lot of TV programmes are inappropriate for teens they watch them because few parents actually check up what their children watch. So, programmes containing offensive language, scenes of violence and loud screeches influence teens badly. It is really difficult for children to determine the difference between the reality and the fantasy. Hence, they start imitating the violent behaviour they see in their favourite programmes.
However, there are people who oppose this view. They suppose that teens seem to be rude and selfish due to their age. Their character is changing, they are growing up and have to take responsibilities and responsibility for their actions. It is very difficult for them to cope with these problems, that is why they become aggressive.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that a lot depends on parents and the way a child is bringing up. If a teenager has the common sense, then he or she will be able to solve any problem and improve his or her behavior.

One on the most important is the problem concerning further education. Not every teen can immediately decide what he will be in future. This situation is very difficult. Only a few of them know their goal, and it`s very important for further developing their abilities and talents. Knowing what you want is really a pawn of great success.
As for me, I have not decided yet what I will be in future, but in our school in the eighth form we are to choose the majors of our further education. I understand that, if I don’t like any subject, I shouldn’t despair, I have just o try other sciences. But, if I want to have a good result, I should work hard and not be lazy.
A personal life is very important for young people too. It influences their behavior, character, and, especially, their studies. If a teenager has problems in his, family he will be sharp, aggressive, and very vulnerable. It’s very difficult for him to study, and he doesn’t have any energy for creation. Usually, parents cannot understand what has happened to their child. Sometimes they scold him, but it only underestimates the teen’s self-esteemation.
Sometimes teens are involved into a bad company. They strive to “stand out of the crowd”. That’s why they do stupid and dangerous things.
I think that parents should know what their child does. It’s very good when there is always confidence and understanding in the family.
Another main problem for teenagers is the first love. It is not easy to understand if it is a real love or just some affection. Sometimes they need their parent’s support.
Despite all these difficulties and problems, it is really a good age. Adults often remember those years, the years when they were young, with pleasure. And soon all problems will go away, and there will be only good impressions in the memory!

What do you think about when you hear the word “issue”? Firstly, you probably have a thought about routine problems that all people face from time to time. Furthermore, you may consider some global problems which have an effect on everyone’s life and the life of our planet in common. So what are the main issues of modern society?
If I think about global problems, the first thing that comes to my mind is worsening of ecological situation. It’s a complex issue which includes land, water and air pollution, as well as deforestation, extinction of flora and fauna species. One of the most urgent issues is also the process of global warming and climate changing. Nevertheless, all of them are caused by human beings and their activity, and are difficult to be solved.
Moreover, there is a big list of environmental issues which are caused by nature such as droughts, floods, tornadoes, earthquakes and others. They are also really dangerous and can lead to some ecological disasters.
Another one, but not less important, is the group of health problems. It includes AIDS and other infection diseases, cancer and so on. As for me the most wide-spread one is obesity. This issue is caused by change of lifestyle, especially lack of physical activity and rapidly growing popularity of fast food. The statistics shows that more and more children in the world suffer from this disease. It is also connected with one more global problem — the Internet that has a great impact on the way we live, making us less active, purposeless and antisocial.
Modern society is also full of social issues like homelessness and poverty, drunkenness, drug abuse and family violence. In spite of the fact that there is a mechanism of social help for poor or homeless people and a lot of services that are ready to help people struggling with alcohol and drug addiction. These issues haven’t been solved yet and continue to destroy families and lives.
On my opinion, the biggest part of modern issues can only be solved by changing of human nature, our habits and way of thinking. All mankind has to unite to win this interminable struggle.

Yes, I agree that they are too small in primary school, but we, tenth-graders are old enough to make a choice. However, I will have to pass a Unified State Exam on Math, which is a compulsory subject, and it’s more than likely that I will spoil my school-leaving certificate with a bad mark.

I have good friends and classmates. School teachers are kind to me, so I have nothing to complain about. But these exams are probably the only worrying problem for me. Knowing how important they are, I’ve partially lost my appetite, I became rather nervous and stressed. My mum says that it’s going to be alright and that everyone one way or another passes them. I believe her, because she was also a decent student while studying at school and university. My problem is that I want to pass them with excellent marks, especially the Biology and Chemistry tests. I’m planning to enter the medical college next year, so it is very important for me. Maths and Russian tests are also going to be hard, but I’m well prepared for them. Other than exams, perhaps, every teen faces rapport problems with parents. As I’ve already mentioned, they are great and I love them with all my heart. But sometimes, it seems to me that we speak different languages. They often try to decide for me and show overprotection, while I think that I’m old enough to take care of myself. Perhaps, this is happening because I’m the only child in the family, but I wish they would give me more freedom of choice.
Nowadays we are often told that young generation is absolutely impolite and disorganized. As for me, I partially agree with this opinion as there are various facts that support it.
To begin with, teenagers are reluctant to listen to their parents` advices because teens are absolutely convinced that they are always right and consequently do not need any help. They feel like looking independent and confident but, of course, in fact they can neither live on their own nor manage with all difficulties themselves. Moreover, teenagers are often very selfish and self-absorbed. They think, they are much better than other people. They do not understand thatthe way you treat people – you will be treated by them. In addition, I strongly believe that teenagers` behavior is influenced by mass media. Today most of young people have TV-sets as well as computers with permanent Internet connection in their bedrooms. Therefore, despite the fact that a lot of TV programmes are inappropriate for teens they watch them because few parents actually check up what their children watch. So, programmes containing offensive language, scenes of violence and loud screeches influence teens badly. It is really difficult for children to determine the difference between the reality and the fantasy. Hence, they start imitating the violent behaviour they see in their favourite programmes.
However, there are people who oppose this view. They suppose that teens seem to be rude and selfish due to their age. Their character is changing, they are growing up and have to take responsibilities and responsibility for their actions. It is very difficult for them to cope with these problems, that is why they become aggressive.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that a lot depends on parents and the way a child is bringing up. If a teenager has the common sense, then he or she will be able to solve any problem and improve his or her behavior.

One on the most important is the problem concerning further education. Not every teen can immediately decide what he will be in future. This situation is very difficult. Only a few of them know their goal, and it`s very important for further developing their abilities and talents. Knowing what you want is really a pawn of great success.
As for me, I have not decided yet what I will be in future, but in our school in the eighth form we are to choose the majors of our further education. I understand that, if I don’t like any subject, I shouldn’t despair, I have just o try other sciences. But, if I want to have a good result, I should work hard and not be lazy.
A personal life is very important for young people too. It influences their behavior, character, and, especially, their studies. If a teenager has problems in his, family he will be sharp, aggressive, and very vulnerable. It’s very difficult for him to study, and he doesn’t have any energy for creation. Usually, parents cannot understand what has happened to their child. Sometimes they scold him, but it only underestimates the teen’s self-esteemation.
Sometimes teens are involved into a bad company. They strive to “stand out of the crowd”. That’s why they do stupid and dangerous things.
I think that parents should know what their child does. It’s very good when there is always confidence and understanding in the family.
Another main problem for teenagers is the first love. It is not easy to understand if it is a real love or just some affection. Sometimes they need their parent’s support.
Despite all these difficulties and problems, it is really a good age. Adults often remember those years, the years when they were young, with pleasure. And soon all problems will go away, and there will be only good impressions in the memory!

What do you think about when you hear the word “issue”? Firstly, you probably have a thought about routine problems that all people face from time to time. Furthermore, you may consider some global problems which have an effect on everyone’s life and the life of our planet in common. So what are the main issues of modern society?
If I think about global problems, the first thing that comes to my mind is worsening of ecological situation. It’s a complex issue which includes land, water and air pollution, as well as deforestation, extinction of flora and fauna species. One of the most urgent issues is also the process of global warming and climate changing. Nevertheless, all of them are caused by human beings and their activity, and are difficult to be solved.
Moreover, there is a big list of environmental issues which are caused by nature such as droughts, floods, tornadoes, earthquakes and others. They are also really dangerous and can lead to some ecological disasters.
Another one, but not less important, is the group of health problems. It includes AIDS and other infection diseases, cancer and so on. As for me the most wide-spread one is obesity. This issue is caused by change of lifestyle, especially lack of physical activity and rapidly growing popularity of fast food. The statistics shows that more and more children in the world suffer from this disease. It is also connected with one more global problem — the Internet that has a great impact on the way we live, making us less active, purposeless and antisocial.
Modern society is also full of social issues like homelessness and poverty, drunkenness, drug abuse and family violence. In spite of the fact that there is a mechanism of social help for poor or homeless people and a lot of services that are ready to help people struggling with alcohol and drug addiction. These issues haven’t been solved yet and continue to destroy families and lives.
On my opinion, the biggest part of modern issues can only be solved by changing of human nature, our habits and way of thinking. All mankind has to unite to win this interminable struggle.
