I like reading and spent a lot of time with the books. They open a world full of mysteries and adventures to me. Books can show the manners and customs of other countries and continents, broaden the mind and increases the one’s vocabulary. In general, reading is a very rewarding hobby.
I like to read the adventure novels and detective stories. They capture my attention and imagination. One of my favorite books is the series of stories about the adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. The author of these wonderful books is A. Conan Doyle.
My favorite character is the brilliant detective Sherlock Holmes. He’s smart, insightful, and resourceful. In crisis situations he doesn’t lose composure and avoids panicking. Holmes can unravel the complex puzzles and always finds the culprit. He invented the deductive method of investigating mysteries and crimes. This method is based on reasoning, observation and attention to detail. The brave detective uses his method and reveals all the mysteries. I admire his intelligence, logic, fearless and faith in the scientific progress. So I can confidently say that my favorite hero is Sherlock Holmes.
My hero, Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, I’ll tell you about it now.
Yuri Gagarin was the first cosmonaut in the world. Yuri Alex-eyevich Gagarin was born on the 9th of March, 1934. He was born in the village of Klushino in the Smolensk region.
Yura was an active, brave and curious boy. His father was jack of all trades and he helped his son when Yura made toy planes by hand. But the war began. Yuri Gagarin and his mother, father, brother and sister left their house and had to live in a dug-out. After the war Gagarin’s family moved to Gzhatsk. Now it is Gagarin. It was named after the first cosmonaut.
In 1951 Gagarin graduated from a vocational school in Lyubertsy near Moscow.
Yuri Gagarin attended an aeroclub and began to fly when he was a student of a technical secondary school in Saratov.
In 1955 he entered a school for pilots. Then he became a pilot and joined the first group of cosmonauts.
In 1960 Gagarin began to prepare for the flight into space.
On April 12,1961 Yuri Gagarin flew into space and spent 108 minutes there. It was the first time in history that the Russian spaceship “Vostok” with the man on board was in space. After his flight he visited many countries and saw millions of people. Gagarin became a Hero of our country.
He died in 1968, but people always remember the first Russian cosmonaut.
Almost every girl and especially boys want to be a hero. We learn about brave people from newspapers, magazines, books, films, and TV programmes. We are proud of them. I think our time is also rich in heroism.
All people have their own ideals. As for me my grandfather is my hero. Now I would like to tell you about him. My grandfather`s name was Pasynkov Ivan Grigoryevich. He was born in 1925, in the village Kurbatovo, Mari El.
My grandfather took part in the Great Patriotic War when he was only eighteen. We know how courageous and faithful common people were, how much they loved their Motherland. I am proud of mygrandfather because he was one of those people. He was badly wounded. My grandfather was awarded a lot of orders and medals for his bravery. Victory Day is one of my favourite holidays. In the evening my family and I celebrate this holiday. I like to listen to war songs and watch films about that war.
I want to be as brave and fair as my grandfather was. I think he is a real hero. It is a pity that my grandfather is not alive.

Все люди имеют свои идеалы. Что касается меня, мой дед является моим героем. Сейчас я бы хотел рассказать вам немного о нём. Моего деда звали Пасынков Иван Григорьевич. Он родился в 1925 году, в деревне Курбатово.
Мой дедушка принимал участие в Великой Отечественной войне, когда ему было всего18 лет. Мы знаем, какими храбрыми и преданными были простые люди, как сильно они любили свою Родину. Я горжусь своим дедушкой, потому что он был одним из тех людей. Он был тяжело ранен и был награжден орденами и медалями за отвагу. Поэтому День Победы – один из моих любимых праздников. Вечером мы с семьей отмечаем этот праздник. Мне нравится слушать военные песни и смотреть фильмы о той войне.
Я бы хотел быть таким же храбрым и честным, как мой дед. Я думаю, что он настоящий герой. Жаль, что мой дедушка умер.
