It’s difficult to overestimate the role of science and technology in our life. They accelerate the development of civilization and help us in our co-operation with nature.
Scientists investigate the laws of the universe, discover the secrets of nature, and apply their knowledge in practice improving the life of people. Let’s compare our life nowadays with the life of people at the beginning of the 20th century. It has changed beyond recognition. Our ancestors hadn’t the slightest idea of the trivial things created by the scientific progress that we use in our every day life. I mean refrigerators, TV sets, computers, microwave ovens, radio telephones, what not.
They would seem miracles to them that made our life easy, comfortable and pleasant. On the other hand, the great inventions of the beginning of the 20th century, I mean radio, airplanes, combustion and jet engines have become usual things and we can’t imagine our life without them. A century is a long period for scientific and technological progress, as it’s rather rapid. Millions of investigations the endless number of outstanding discoveries have been made. Our century has had several names that were connected with a certain era in science and technology. At first it was called the atomic age due to the discovery of the splitting of the atom. Then it became the age of the conquest of space when for the first time in the history of mankind a man overcame the gravity and entered the Universe. And now we live in the information era when the computer network embraces the globe and connects not only the countries and space stations but a lot of people all over the world. All these things prove the power and the greatest progressive role of science in our life.
But every medal has its reverse. And the rapid scientific progress has aroused a number of problems that are a matter of our great concern. These are ecological problems, the safety of nuclear power stations, the nuclear war threat, and the responsibility of a scientist. But still we are grateful to the outstanding men of the past and the present who have courage and patience to disclose the secrets of the Universe. Они становятся ленивыми и неорганизованными. Они ждут, когда их последние изобретения сделают всё за них. Более того, по мнению ученых, многие широко распространенные гаджеты обладают излучением, которое может вызвать серьёзные проблемы со здоровьем. Кроме того, всё больше и больше людей становятся зависимыми от компьютера, телевизора или мобильного телефона. Они игнорируют свои домашние обязанности, учебу или работу и проводят всё своё время перед ноутбуком или экраном телевизора.
В заключение, я считаю, что, несмотря на все имеющиеся недостатки, достоинства гаджетов намного более занчительны, так как они экономят время и позволяют людям наслаждаться жизнью!

Today we live in the world of consumption, overall freedom and ubiquitous conveniences (I mean the most developed countries). High technologies, effective material production, great human capital are things following us this century. Computers, internet, mobile phones, electronics make our life easier and more productive. We have long life expectancy due to good living conditions, advanced medicine saving us from serious diseases and so on…But had we all these earlier? No, we hadn’t. Our life is developing as well as society….We’re facing the progress itself! But what is the progress of our society in reality? It is development, transformation from the lowest to the highest, from the least perfect to the most perfect. It’s eternal capability to perfect human intelligence, science development and, of course, moral development. When we clearly understand what the progress is, we’ll come to conclusion that it’s a very contradictive process especially in the modern society. In one area we have progress but in another one is threatening degradation or regress. And that’s why….
We have all we need and even more. Our jobs are much easier then they were even 20 years ago. We haven’t got to work physically a lot, be covered with dust or soot, dirty up our hands with mazut when lathing… We just sit in our clean offices and look into a monitor. Monitor and keyboard, monitor and keyboard…we need nothing else to work… And we’re glad to this except our eyes…Then the workday is over we get off a chair and get into a comfortable car. The next step is a supermarket. We buy everything we want and we want a lot, more and more every time… The products are relatively cheap because most of them are gene-modified and full of added preservatives. After buying all these cheap and tasty things we come home, eat and have a rest. Our home is full of harmful and radiating electronics which is used by us for “having a rest”. We relax by surfing the internet or watching TV. The last one only offers us foolish popular shows containing improbable but fascinating stories. The only aim of all of these
is to attract our attention and make money on us via advertisement. Just to force us to buy more and more useless and harmful things. But we like it…we like the choice. As it seems to us we make our choice independently, for instance what sausage to buy…But we’re mistaken. We choose what we were told from the blue screen. So it’s just an illusion of real choice. We’re managed by governments, mass media and public stereotypes. It’s one more illusion, the illusion of absolute freedom. We think we have all the political freedoms. We have the right to vote and to be elected, to really control the power and run the state. It’s an illusion again. The power isn’t controlled by the public. It’s controlled by different finical and military structures. We’ll never get the truth about real affairs state in our policy, economy, and society.
And what about ecology? Our environment is almost destroyed. You will never find the place in the world not being polluted by humans. We breathe the air full of chemicals, drink water full of industrial wastes and so on. Many species of plants and animals have become extinct. Obviously, that the nature pays us back the same. That’s why there are so many natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunami, droughts, floods, hurricanes … Today different dangerous diseases are becoming more and more widespread all over the world. AIDS, for instance, is the misfortune of more than 30 million people.
There are other serious world problems. One of them is the nuclear weapon spreading. More and more countries develop nuclear kinds of weapon. Even the nuclear supplies of only United States can destroy the whole world in some minutes. And what may happen when access to the nuclear weapons is got by terrorists, we can only imagine. There is a very accurate phrase concerning it said by a scientist answering the question about the third world war, “I don’t know what exactly the third world war will be, but the fourth world war will be with bow and arrows”.
One more problem is the poverty in the least developed countries. Moreover half the world earns not more than 2 dollars a day. People in these countries suffer from hunger. They don’t have access to good education or medical care. Millions of them are dying from infection diseases every year. Even the developed countries try to help them, it doesn’t work properly. The low level of human capital, political instability, huge debts and corruption hold back their development. That’s why this problem isn’t likely to be solved in the nearest future.
So, we see our progress has the opposite side. And this opposite side is so large that it’s difficult to estimate: do we have progress or regress? Of course, our life expectancy is so long but does it matter when anytime we all may be destroyed in one minute by a nuclear bomb? As for the morality, our society is corrupting…it’s not necessary to give an example here because everyone knows what here’s meant.
Thereby it’s difficult to say exactly whether progress or degradation we have now. The obvious progress in technology doesn’t lead to the progress of the whole society automatically because the full progress includes also intelligence and morality development. Although everyone has his or her own criteria of social progress but, nevertheless, it stays quite contradictory…

Когда мы отчетливо поймем, что на самом деле представляет из себя прогресс, мы придем к выводу, что он крайне противоречив, особенно в современном обществе. В чем-то одном у нас развитие, но в другом полная деградация. И вот почему…
У нас есть все, что нам нужно и даже больше. Наша работа теперь гораздо легче, чем она была хотя бы 20 лет назад. Нам не приходится много работать физически, в пыли и грязи, или стоять за станком, капаясь в мазуте… Мы просто сидим в наших чистых офисах и погружены в монитор. Монитор да клавиши, монитор да клавиши… да нам и не нужно ничего больше для работы… А мы и рады этому, ну за исключением наших глаз… Затем рабочий день закончен, мы слезаем со стула и залезаем в машину. Дальше супермаркет. Мы покупаем все, что хотим, а хотим мы много, больше и больше каждый раз. Товары сравнительно недорогие, так как изготовлены из генномодифицированных компонентов и напичканы консервантами. Купив все это вкусное и дешевое, мы отправляемся домой. Поедим и отдыхаем. Наш дом полон вредной, излучающей электроникой, которую мы используем для “отдыха”. Мы расслабляемся сидя в интернете или смотря ТВ. И по телевизору нам предлагают только недалекие шоу с невероятными, но завораживающими историями. И их цель одна – привлечь наше внимание и заработать на нас через рекламу. Просто заствить покупать больше ненужных и вредных вещей. Но нам нравится это… нам нравится выбор. И как нам кажется, мы делаем независимый выбор, например какую колбасу купить… Но мы ошибаемся. Мы покупаем именно то, что нам сказали с голубого экрана. То есть это всего лишь иллюзия реального выбора. Нами управляют правительства, СМИ, общепринятые стереотипы. Вот еще одна иллюзия, иллюзия абсолютной свободы. Мы думаем, что имеем все политические свободы. У нас есть право голосовать и быть избранным, контролировать власть и управлять государством. И это опять иллюзия. Власть на самом деле не контролируется общественностью. Она контролируется различными финансовыми и военными структкрами. И мы никогда не узнаем правду о реальном состоянии дел в политике, экономике и общественной жизни.
А как насчет экологии? Окружающая среда почти уничтожена. И не найти теперь места в мире, которое не было бы загрязнено человеком. Мы дышим воздухом, полным химикатов, пьем воду, содержащую промышленные отходы и т.д. Многие виды растений и животных вымерли. Очевидно, что и природа отплачивает нам тем же. Вот почему случается такое количество естественных катаклизмов: землетрясения, цунами, засухи, наводнения, ураганы. Сегодня по всему миру распространяются опасные заболевания. Спид, например, уже беда боле чем 30 миллионов людей.
Есть и другие мировые проблемы. Одна из них-это распространение ядерного оружия. И все больше и больше стран развивают его. Даже одни запасы ядерного оружия США могут уничтожить весь мир за минуты. А что может случиться, если ядерное оружие попадет в руки террористов можно только представить. Насчет этого существует очень точная фраза одного ученого, который отвечал на вопрос о третьей мировой войне. Он сказал: “Я не знаю точно, какова будет третья мировая война, но четвертая определенно будет с луком и стрелами”.
Еще одна проблема – это бедность в наименее развитых странах. Более того, половина мира зарабатывает не более 2 долларов в день. Люди в этих странах страдают от голода. Они не имеет доступа к хорошему образованию и медицине. Миллионы умирают от инфекционных заболеваний каждый год. Хотя развитые страны пытаются помочь им, это недостаточно помогает. Низкий уровень человеческго капитала, политическая нестабильность, огромные долги и коррупция сдерживают развитие. Вот поэтому, не похоже, что данная проблема будет решена в ближайшем будущем.
Таким образом, наш прогресс имеет и обратную сторону. И эта сторона настолько огромна, что становится сложно оценить имеем ли мы прогресс или регресс. Конечно, наша продолжительность жизни большая, но имеет ли это значение когда в любую минуту мы можем быть уничтожены ядерной бомбой? А что же касается морали, то наше общество разлагается… я думаю нет смысла приводить примеры того, о чем идет речь. Итак, каждый понимает.
Итак, довольно сложно сказать точно, что мы имеем: прогресс или регресс. Очевидный прогресс в технологиях не ведет автоматически к прогрессу всего общества, потому что полный общественный прогресс также включает в себя совершенствование морали и интеллекта. Хотя каждый имеет собственные критерии общественного прогресса, это процес все равно останется крайне противоречивым…

For centuries people have been inventing things to make life
easier. Among the greatest inventions of the past are the
automobile, the steam engine, the electricity, the telephone and
television. Since the beginning of the 20th century people have
made a huge step in technology. Now we live in flats, talk to
people who live in other parts of the world, travel from one
place to another by plane. All these things are a product of
technological progress and it is still growing rapidly.
Today we live in the world of machines and computers. Every day
more and more gadgets appear and all of them make our life
easier. Some of the new inventions have become so affordable and
common, that now people cannot imagine life without them. For
example, the mobile phone has turned from an expensive portable
phone into an inexpensive data, e-mail, and voice service that
almost anyone can afford. At the speed that mobile phones are
evolving they may one day replace in-home phone services. Years
ago mobile phones were bulky and required large batteries in a
carrying case. Today’s mobiles fit in a pocket and can replace a
computer.
Another example of modern high-tech inventions is the Internet.
Almost every company in the world has its own website. The
Internet provides any kind of information on any topic. Of
course, some of the sources are not reliable, but the Internet
gives a very good opportunity to shop, book rooms and flights,
watch films, listen to music and many other things. The Internet
also gives an opportunity to make new friends and find old ones
thanks to social networking sites such as Facebook or Vkontakte.
Computer technology has influenced production processes and made
work easier. Toy companies, for example, incorporate computer
chips in toys which make them move, talk and sing on their own.
The car industry has computer systems installed in cars and they
give information on car’s condition, including tire pressure,
headlights or the temperature inside and outside. Printing has
become much easier with the computer-based printing machines.
Tablet PCs are becoming more and more popular today. They are
much lighter than notebooks or netbooks and they contain all the
software that is needed for business, studies and pleasure.
EBook readers are a new invention too. This is a very convenient
gadget that allows uploading books in different electronic
formats. Instead of carrying one paperback book in a bag, you
can carry one eBook reader with thousands of books on it.
Surely, these new inventions are not the last ones that humanity

The 21 century has begun. But our life, however, does not seem to have changed in comparacement with the 20 century. We are not living on Mars or exploring new galaxies though many writers of the 20 century predicted that. We are still cooking our meal ourselves instead of using the help of robots and spend hours travelling from one place to another though according to the predictions we were supposed to do this in several seconds. So has our life changed at all?
It seems – no. But let us look on some examples. Who could imagine the role of the computers in the modern world even 30 years ago? Sci-fi writers told us about the probable usage of the computers in science but, I believe, nobody really thought that a computer would become an absolutely necessary thing in our everyday life-a workspace and an entertainer in one thing. And what about the revolution in communications which has been happening for the last 10 years? I mean the mobile phones and the Internet. It seems it was quite recently when a telephone at home was the only way to talk with somebody far away from you and still many people preferred to write letters and then the waiting for the response could last for months sometimes. Now everything is quite different. You can get in touch with your friend from nearly any place of the Earth with the help of the mobile phone and the response on your letter arrives the next second it was sent. And these are the most obvious changes which influenced our lives. I do not mention the latest researches in biology such as the decoding of human genome which was finished in the very beginning if the 21 century or in chemistry and physics which led to the opening of a new frontier-nanotechnologies. We do not pay attention to these facts-but probably just because they have not influenced our life yet.
However, this does not mean that there would be no influence. The possible results, for example, on medicine are fascinating. And, well, it is difficult to predict what will happen in the future-technologies are improving all the time and I would not be surprised if in 10 years` time things that now we cannot imagine would become common and familiar.
Still, we should not forget about the problems that were left to us by the 20 century. The ecological situation is rather serious and globalization has led to some cultural misunderstandings between different nations. However, these problems can be solved if all the humankind would not only realize the importance of these problems but would do something about it as well.
To sum it up, we have lot things to do in the 21 century-from learning todeal with each other to exploring new scientific frontiers. So, what waits for us in the 21 century? Well, that depends on us!

Кажется, что совсем недавно домашниий телефон был единственны средством чтобы поговорить с кем-нибудь далеко от вас, и все-таки многие предпочитали писать письма и потом ожидание ответа могло затягиваться на месяца. Теперь все изменилось. Можно связаться с приятелем по мобильному телефону практически из любой точки Земли, а ответ на ваше письмо приходит на следующую секунду после того, как ответ был отправлен. И это самые очевидные изменения, повлиявшие на нашу жизнь. Я не говорю о последних исследованиях в биологии, таких как расшифровка человеческого генома, законченная в самом начале 21 века или в химии и физике, которые привели к открытию новой области исследований-нанотехнологий. Мы не обращаем на это внимания, но, возможно, только потому, что это пока еще не повлияло на нашу жизнь.
Впрочем, это не означает, что влияния не будет. Возможныедостижения, например, в области медицины многообещающи. И на самом деле достаточно сложно предсказывать, что произойдет в будущем-технологии постоянно совершенствуются и я не удивлюсь, если через 10 лет то, что сейчас мы не можем даже и представить, станет чем-то обыденным.
Однако мы не должны забывать и о проблемах, оставленных нам 20 веком. Ситуация с экологией представляется весьма серьезной, а глобализация привела к некоторым межкультурным противоречиям между разными нациями. Впрочем, эти проблемы могут быть разрешены, если человечество не только осознает важность этих проблем, но и предпримет действия по их разрешению.
В общем, нам многое предстоит сделать в 21 веке – начиная с того, чтобы научиться приходить к взаимопониманию и кончая исследованиями новых областей науки. Так что же нас ждет в 21 веке? Это зависит только от нас!

In the course of his historic development man gradually learned to use the forces of nature and created our civilization. He managed to change the earth beyond recognition: inhabited vast expanses of wilderness, constructed roads, plants and irrigated deserts. Man is also the creator of the innumerable spiritual treasures of mankind: the wonderful works of art, literature and science. All this became possible thanks to man’s labour, his ability to learn, to understand and explain different phenomena of the material word.
In this progressive advance of man a particularly significant role belongs to energy.
First man learned to use to use the energy of fire. Many thousand years passed before man learned to use the energy of wind, water and stream, and later – electricity. For producing electricity man discovered and began to use different energy resources: coal, oil, gas, shale, hydropower and nuclear energy.
Not so long ago man invented and put into service the steam engine and steam locomotives. Then he attached the steam engine to looms and to various wheels and so work began to speed up.
The steam engine worked a revolution in the mode of production. The discovery and use electricity brought about the industrial revolution. A multitude of machines – mechanical, steam and electrical –began to do man’s difficult and complex work. But mans brain still controlled the machines doing the work. He started them, guided them and stopped them. He judged their work and corrected errors. His eyes, ears and sense of touch did the observing, and his brain interpreted their information. Then people invented machines and electronic computers which freed the worker not only of the performance of all production operations but even of control.
The machine made a great contribution to the spread of information and the advance of learning. The machine system made it possible to include science in production on a large scale. But it was a long and a hard way. It took the steam engine more than a century to develop its tremendous capacity to the full. The industrial revolution, brought about by the discovery and use of electricity, took some 50-60 years to run its course.
The second half of the 20th century began an entirely new era – the era of the scientific and technological revolution. It is due to complex mechanization and full automation.
The discovery of the chain reaction of nuclear fission and the reaction of thermonuclear fusion promises mankind a practically unlimited source of energy. Now scientists began to study and use outer space for Man’s benefit.
All this is possible thanks to a wide introduction of scientific discoveries in production.

It becomes important to learn to get new knowledge quickly and sometimes to change your qualification. IT can first lead to unemployment, but later create even more workplaces especially for highly qualified professionals. While the hardest work can be performed by robots and routine calculations by computers, in the future people with the most creative mind and numerous fresh ideas will get better career chances.
On one hand technology development gives more access to professional and cultural information and leads to new forms of individual enterprises. But on the other hand there is a danger of total control of private life unless special laws are enforced by the government.
Another danger is «intellectual terrorism» when computer viruses block important programs.

One of them is the development of new ecologically clean sources of energy using sun, gravitation, winds or rain. New kind of transports and new agricultural methods that do not harm our nature are being developed today.

50 years ago people didn’t even heard of computers, and today we cannot imagine life without them.
Computer technology is the fastest-growing industry in the world. The first computer was the size of a minibus and weighed a ton. Today, its job can be done by a chip the size of a pin head. And the revolution is still going on.
Very soon we’ll have computers that we’ll wear on our wrists or even in our glasses and earrings.
The next generation of computers will be able to talk and even think for themselves. They will contain electronic “neural networks”. Of course, they’ll be still a lot simpler than human brains, but it will be a great step forward. Such computers will help to diagnose illnesses, find minerals, identify criminals and control space travel.
Some people say that computers are dangerous, but I don’t agree with them.
They save a lot of time. They seldom make mistakes. It’s much faster and easier to surf the Internet than to go to the library. On-line shopping makes it possible to find exactly what you want at the best price, saving both time and money. E-mail is a great invention, too. It’s faster than sending a letter and cheaper than sending a telegram.
All in all, I strongly believe that computers are a useful tool. They have changed our life for the better. So why shouldn’t we make them work to our advantage?

Since the first automobile was introduced to our life, we can notice that there are a lot of changes happened around us. As a modern transportation, it not only brings convenience to our daily life, but also enhances the efficiency.
One of advantages of using automobiles is that it can give the users much more convenience compared with other transportations, such as bikes or buss. For me, I like to go to the supermarket once per week and normally buy many foods at one time. Can you imagine that I need to carry a lot of foodstuff and maybe take a crowded bus to reach home? It isn’t a secret that today many people feel quite helpless if they have left their mobile phones at home. First of all cell phones give us an opportunity to keep in touch with people in any place and in any time (it’s especially important for businesspeople). Besides, modern mobile phones are multi-function: they provide access to the Internet, have various games, cameras, memory sticks, etc.
Nevertheless we can’t deny that mobile phones provoke a range of problems. People have started to see each other less frequently. Mobile communication requires quite a lot of money and people have to control the amount of money on their accounts constantly otherwise at the most inappropriate moment they won’t be able to phone the people they need. But the greatest disadvantage of cell phones is certainly their harmful influence on people’s health.
In my opinion at the present time mobile phones are an integral part of life of any person and we can’t stop it. I personally need it everyday for my work and to keep in touch with my friends and relatives, though I’m aware of its deleterious influence on my health. But I try to avoid idle talks on the phone to reduce the influence of harmful radio waves. I try to find the happy mean.

We are living in the modern world, full of computers, automatic devices, gadgets, cell phones and many other different interesting and useful things that technological progress has given us for usage. Although not even years have passed as we couldn’t even dream about time when it would be enough just to tap on a screen and get connected with the other person on the different end of the world.
Science has given us possibility to fly into space and step on the moon, to start studying different parts of our galaxy and even farther. For example, what wonderful pictures of our galaxy and planets and stars surrounding Earth Hubble telescope has showed to us. Now we can develop further and maybe ever step on the other planets and even populate it.
Technology has considerably made our life easier due to different discoveries. For example, nowadays we can travel with extremely high speed in different directions: many countries have high-speed trains which help us to feel comfortable all the way.
Older people have different devices that have highly improved the level of their life, such as special cars for driving or hearing aid that helps them to no more feel useless in the society.
On the other hand al this computerized environment may damage us too. Our children spend more and more time playing computer games, texting their friends instead of meeting them in the streets, living more and more in their own virtual world. Girls try to compete whose cell phone or tablet is better and more modern, or who has more friends on Facebook.
Anyway technology has its advantages and disadvantages, but we cannot escape from progress, the development is inevitable. But our responsibility is to preserve ourselves as modern, just and peaceful civilization.

С другой стороны вся эта компьютеризированная среда может и навредить. It’s difficult to overestimate the role of science and technology in our life. They accelerate the development of civilization and help us in our co-operation with nature.
Scientists investigate the laws of the universe, discover the secrets of nature, and apply their knowledge in practice improving the life of people. Let’s compare our life nowadays with the life of people at the beginning of the 20th century. It has changed beyond recognition. Our ancestors hadn’t the slightest idea of the trivial things created by the scientific progress that we use in our every day life. I mean refrigerators, TV sets, computers, microwave ovens, radio telephones, what not.
They would seem miracles to them that made our life easy, comfortable and pleasant. On the other hand, the great inventions of the beginning of the 20th century, I mean radio, airplanes, combustion and jet engines have become usual things and we can’t imagine our life without them. A century is a long period for scientific and technological progress, as it’s rather rapid. Millions of investigations the endless number of outstanding discoveries have been made. Our century has had several names that were connected with a certain era in science and technology. At first it was called the atomic age due to the discovery of the splitting of the atom. Then it became the age of the conquest of space when for the first time in the history of mankind a man overcame the gravity and entered the Universe. And now we live in the information era when the computer network embraces the globe and connects not only the countries and space stations but a lot of people all over the world. All these things prove the power and the greatest progressive role of science in our life.
But every medal has its reverse. And the rapid scientific progress has aroused a number of problems that are a matter of our great concern. These are ecological problems, the safety of nuclear power stations, the nuclear war threat, and the responsibility of a scientist. But still we are grateful to the outstanding men of the past and the present who have courage and patience to disclose the secrets of the Universe.

Today we live in the world of consumption, overall freedom and ubiquitous conveniences (I mean the most developed countries). High technologies, effective material production, great human capital are things following us this century. Computers, internet, mobile phones, electronics make our life easier and more productive. We have long life expectancy due to good living conditions, advanced medicine saving us from serious diseases and so on…But had we all these earlier? No, we hadn’t. Our life is developing as well as society….We’re facing the progress itself! But what is the progress of our society in reality? It is development, transformation from the lowest to the highest, from the least perfect to the most perfect. It’s eternal capability to perfect human intelligence, science development and, of course, moral development. When we clearly understand what the progress is, we’ll come to conclusion that it’s a very contradictive process especially in the modern society. In one area we have progress but in another one is threatening degradation or regress. And that’s why….
We have all we need and even more. Our jobs are much easier then they were even 20 years ago. We haven’t got to work physically a lot, be covered with dust or soot, dirty up our hands with mazut when lathing… We just sit in our clean offices and look into a monitor. Monitor and keyboard, monitor and keyboard…we need nothing else to work… And we’re glad to this except our eyes…Then the workday is over we get off a chair and get into a comfortable car. The next step is a supermarket. We buy everything we want and we want a lot, more and more every time… The products are relatively cheap because most of them are gene-modified and full of added preservatives. After buying all these cheap and tasty things we come home, eat and have a rest. Our home is full of harmful and radiating electronics which is used by us for “having a rest”. We relax by surfing the internet or watching TV. The last one only offers us foolish popular shows containing improbable but fascinating stories. The only aim of all of these
is to attract our attention and make money on us via advertisement. Just to force us to buy more and more useless and harmful things. But we like it…we like the choice. As it seems to us we make our choice independently, for instance what sausage to buy…But we’re mistaken. We choose what we were told from the blue screen. So it’s just an illusion of real choice. We’re managed by governments, mass media and public stereotypes. It’s one more illusion, the illusion of absolute freedom. We think we have all the political freedoms. We have the right to vote and to be elected, to really control the power and run the state. It’s an illusion again. The power isn’t controlled by the public. It’s controlled by different finical and military structures. We’ll never get the truth about real affairs state in our policy, economy, and society.
And what about ecology? Our environment is almost destroyed. You will never find the place in the world not being polluted by humans. We breathe the air full of chemicals, drink water full of industrial wastes and so on. Many species of plants and animals have become extinct. Obviously, that the nature pays us back the same. That’s why there are so many natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunami, droughts, floods, hurricanes … Today different dangerous diseases are becoming more and more widespread all over the world. AIDS, for instance, is the misfortune of more than 30 million people.
There are other serious world problems. One of them is the nuclear weapon spreading. More and more countries develop nuclear kinds of weapon. Even the nuclear supplies of only United States can destroy the whole world in some minutes. And what may happen when access to the nuclear weapons is got by terrorists, we can only imagine. There is a very accurate phrase concerning it said by a scientist answering the question about the third world war, “I don’t know what exactly the third world war will be, but the fourth world war will be with bow and arrows”.
One more problem is the poverty in the least developed countries. Moreover half the world earns not more than 2 dollars a day. People in these countries suffer from hunger. They don’t have access to good education or medical care. Millions of them are dying from infection diseases every year. Even the developed countries try to help them, it doesn’t work properly. The low level of human capital, political instability, huge debts and corruption hold back their development. That’s why this problem isn’t likely to be solved in the nearest future.
So, we see our progress has the opposite side. And this opposite side is so large that it’s difficult to estimate: do we have progress or regress? Of course, our life expectancy is so long but does it matter when anytime we all may be destroyed in one minute by a nuclear bomb? As for the morality, our society is corrupting…it’s not necessary to give an example here because everyone knows what here’s meant.
Thereby it’s difficult to say exactly whether progress or degradation we have now. The obvious progress in technology doesn’t lead to the progress of the whole society automatically because the full progress includes also intelligence and morality development. Although everyone has his or her own criteria of social progress but, nevertheless, it stays quite contradictory…

В чем-то одном у нас развитие, но в другом полная деградация. И вот почему…
У нас есть все, что нам нужно и даже больше. Наша работа теперь гораздо легче, чем она была хотя бы 20 лет назад. Нам не приходится много работать физически, в пыли и грязи, или стоять за станком, капаясь в мазуте… Мы просто сидим в наших чистых офисах и погружены в монитор. Монитор да клавиши, монитор да клавиши… да нам и не нужно ничего больше для работы… А мы и рады этому, ну за исключением наших глаз… Затем рабочий день закончен, мы слезаем со стула и залезаем в машину. Дальше супермаркет. Мы покупаем все, что хотим, а хотим мы много, больше и больше каждый раз. И по телевизору нам предлагают только недалекие шоу с невероятными, но завораживающими историями. И их цель одна – привлечь наше внимание и заработать на нас через рекламу. Просто заствить покупать больше ненужных и вредных вещей. Но нам нравится это… нам нравится выбор. И как нам кажется, мы делаем независимый выбор, например какую колбасу купить… Но мы ошибаемся. Мы покупаем именно то, что нам сказали с голубого экрана. То есть это всего лишь иллюзия реального выбора. Нами управляют правительства, СМИ, общепринятые стереотипы. Вот еще одна иллюзия, иллюзия абсолютной свободы. Мы думаем, что имеем все политические свободы. У нас есть право голосовать и быть избранным, контролировать власть и управлять государством. И это опять иллюзия. Власть на самом деле не контролируется общественностью. Она контролируется различными финансовыми и военными структкрами. И мы никогда не узнаем правду о реальном состоянии дел в политике, экономике и общественной жизни.
А как насчет экологии? Окружающая среда почти уничтожена. И не найти теперь места в мире, которое не было бы загрязнено человеком. Мы дышим воздухом, полным химикатов, пьем воду, содержащую промышленные отходы и т.д. Многие виды растений и животных вымерли. Очевидно, что и природа отплачивает нам тем же. Вот почему случается такое количество естественных катаклизмов: землетрясения, цунами, засухи, наводнения, ураганы. Сегодня по всему миру распространяются опасные заболевания. Спид, например, уже беда боле чем 30 миллионов людей.
Есть и другие мировые проблемы. Одна из них-это распространение ядерного оружия. И все больше и больше стран развивают его. Даже одни запасы ядерного оружия США могут уничтожить весь мир за минуты. А что может случиться, если ядерное оружие попадет в руки террористов можно только представить. Насчет этого существует очень точная фраза одного ученого, который отвечал на вопрос о третьей мировой войне. Он сказал: “Я не знаю точно, какова будет третья мировая война, но четвертая определенно будет с луком и стрелами”.
Еще одна проблема – это бедность в наименее развитых странах. Более того, половина мира зарабатывает не более 2 долларов в день. Люди в этих странах страдают от голода. Они не имеет доступа к хорошему образованию и медицине. Миллионы умирают от инфекционных заболеваний каждый год. Хотя развитые страны пытаются помочь им, это недостаточно помогает. Низкий уровень человеческго капитала, политическая нестабильность, огромные долги и коррупция сдерживают развитие. Вот поэтому, не похоже, что данная проблема будет решена в ближайшем будущем.

For centuries people have been inventing things to make life
easier. Among the greatest inventions of the past are the
automobile, the steam engine, the electricity, the telephone and
television. Since the beginning of the 20th century people have
made a huge step in technology. Now we live in flats, talk to
people who live in other parts of the world, travel from one
place to another by plane. All these things are a product of
technological progress and it is still growing rapidly.
Today we live in the world of machines and computers. Every day
more and more gadgets appear and all of them make our life
easier. Some of the new inventions have become so affordable and
common, that now people cannot imagine life without them. For
example, the mobile phone has turned from an expensive portable
phone into an inexpensive data, e-mail, and voice service that
almost anyone can afford. At the speed that mobile phones are
evolving they may one day replace in-home phone services. Years
ago mobile phones were bulky and required large batteries in a
carrying case. Today’s mobiles fit in a pocket and can replace a
computer.
Another example of modern high-tech inventions is the Internet.
Almost every company in the world has its own website. The
Internet provides any kind of information on any topic. Of
course, some of the sources are not reliable, but the Internet
gives a very good opportunity to shop, book rooms and flights,
watch films, listen to music and many other things. The Internet
also gives an opportunity to make new friends and find old ones
thanks to social networking sites such as Facebook or Vkontakte.
Computer technology has influenced production processes and made
work easier. Toy companies, for example, incorporate computer
chips in toys which make them move, talk and sing on their own.
The car industry has computer systems installed in cars and they
give information on car’s condition, including tire pressure,
headlights or the temperature inside and outside. Printing has
become much easier with the computer-based printing machines.
Tablet PCs are becoming more and more popular today. They are
much lighter than notebooks or netbooks and they contain all the
software that is needed for business, studies and pleasure.
EBook readers are a new invention too. This is a very convenient
gadget that allows uploading books in different electronic
formats. Instead of carrying one paperback book in a bag, you
can carry one eBook reader with thousands of books on it.
Surely, these new inventions are not the last ones that humanity
has developed and many others will be developed year upon year.

The 21 century has begun. But our life, however, does not seem to have changed in comparacement with the 20 century. We are not living on Mars or exploring new galaxies though many writers of the 20 century predicted that. We are still cooking our meal ourselves instead of using the help of robots and spend hours travelling from one place to another though according to the predictions we were supposed to do this in several seconds. So has our life changed at all?
It seems – no. But let us look on some examples. Who could imagine the role of the computers in the modern world even 30 years ago? Sci-fi writers told us about the probable usage of the computers in science but, I believe, nobody really thought that a computer would become an absolutely necessary thing in our everyday life-a workspace and an entertainer in one thing. And what about the revolution in communications which has been happening for the last 10 years? I mean the mobile phones and the Internet. It seems it was quite recently when a telephone at home was the only way to talk with somebody far away from you and still many people preferred to write letters and then the waiting for the response could last for months sometimes. Now everything is quite different. You can get in touch with your friend from nearly any place of the Earth with the help of the mobile phone and the response on your letter arrives the next second it was sent. And these are the most obvious changes which influenced our lives. I do not mention the latest researches in biology such as the decoding of human genome which was finished in the very beginning if the 21 century or in chemistry and physics which led to the opening of a new frontier-nanotechnologies. We do not pay attention to these facts-but probably just because they have not influenced our life yet.
However, this does not mean that there would be no influence. The possible results, for example, on medicine are fascinating. And, well, it is difficult to predict what will happen in the future-technologies are improving all the time and I would not be surprised if in 10 years` time things that now we cannot imagine would become common and familiar.
Still, we should not forget about the problems that were left to us by the 20 century. The ecological situation is rather serious and globalization has led to some cultural misunderstandings between different nations. However, these problems can be solved if all the humankind would not only realize the importance of these problems but would do something about it as well.
To sum it up, we have lot things to do in the 21 century-from learning todeal with each other to exploring new scientific frontiers. So, what waits for us in the 21 century? Well, that depends on us!

А революция в средствах связи, которая происходит в последние 10 лет? Я говорю о мобильных телефонах и Интернете. Кажется, что совсем недавно домашниий телефон был единственны средством чтобы поговорить с кем-нибудь далеко от вас, и все-таки многие предпочитали писать письма и потом ожидание ответа могло затягиваться на месяца. Теперь все изменилось. Можно связаться с приятелем по мобильному телефону практически из любой точки Земли, а ответ на ваше письмо приходит на следующую секунду после того, как ответ был отправлен. И это самые очевидные изменения, повлиявшие на нашу жизнь. Я не говорю о последних исследованиях в биологии, таких как расшифровка человеческого генома, законченная в самом начале 21 века или в химии и физике, которые привели к открытию новой области исследований-нанотехнологий. Мы не обращаем на это внимания, но, возможно, только потому, что это пока еще не повлияло на нашу жизнь.
Впрочем, это не означает, что влияния не будет. Возможныедостижения, например, в области медицины многообещающи. И на самом деле достаточно сложно предсказывать, что произойдет в будущем-технологии постоянно совершенствуются и я не удивлюсь, если через 10 лет то, что сейчас мы не можем даже и представить, станет чем-то обыденным.
Однако мы не должны забывать и о проблемах, оставленных нам 20 веком. Ситуация с экологией представляется весьма серьезной, а глобализация привела к некоторым межкультурным противоречиям между разными нациями. Впрочем, эти проблемы могут быть разрешены, если человечество не только осознает важность этих проблем, но и предпримет действия по их разрешению.
В общем, нам многое предстоит сделать в 21 веке – начиная с того, чтобы научиться приходить к взаимопониманию и кончая исследованиями новых областей науки. Так что же нас ждет в 21 веке? Это зависит только от нас!

In the course of his historic development man gradually learned to use the forces of nature and created our civilization. He managed to change the earth beyond recognition: inhabited vast expanses of wilderness, constructed roads, plants and irrigated deserts. Man is also the creator of the innumerable spiritual treasures of mankind: the wonderful works of art, literature and science. All this became possible thanks to man’s labour, his ability to learn, to understand and explain different phenomena of the material word.
In this progressive advance of man a particularly significant role belongs to energy.
First man learned to use to use the energy of fire. Many thousand years passed before man learned to use the energy of wind, water and stream, and later – electricity. For producing electricity man discovered and began to use different energy resources: coal, oil, gas, shale, hydropower and nuclear energy.
Not so long ago man invented and put into service the steam engine and steam locomotives. Then he attached the steam engine to looms and to various wheels and so work began to speed up.
The steam engine worked a revolution in the mode of production. The discovery and use electricity brought about the industrial revolution. A multitude of machines – mechanical, steam and electrical –began to do man’s difficult and complex work. But mans brain still controlled the machines doing the work. He started them, guided them and stopped them. He judged their work and corrected errors. His eyes, ears and sense of touch did the observing, and his brain interpreted their information. Then people invented machines and electronic computers which freed the worker not only of the performance of all production operations but even of control.
The machine made a great contribution to the spread of information and the advance of learning. The machine system made it possible to include science in production on a large scale. But it was a long and a hard way. It took the steam engine more than a century to develop its tremendous capacity to the full. The industrial revolution, brought about by the discovery and use of electricity, took some 50-60 years to run its course.
The second half of the 20th century began an entirely new era – the era of the scientific and technological revolution. It is due to complex mechanization and full automation.
The discovery of the chain reaction of nuclear fission and the reaction of thermonuclear fusion promises mankind a practically unlimited source of energy. Now scientists began to study and use outer space for Man’s benefit.
All this is possible thanks to a wide introduction of scientific discoveries in production.
We live in the epoch when science becomes direct productive force of society. All-round automation determines the social consequences of the scientific-technological progress. Automation will take over man’s manual work and electronic computers will relieve him of much of his mental work, leaving him time for creativity. It obliterates the distinctions between physical and mental labour.
Scientific and technical progress
The basis of scientific and technical progress of today is new informational technology which is very different from all the previous technologies. Thanks to up-to-date software and robots new informational technologies can make many processes much faster and transmit information more quickly. It is important today because the quantity of information grows rapidly.
New informational society has its peculiarities. Firstly, more and more employees work in the sphere of service and information. Secondly, more and more huge databases appear to collect and store the information. And finally, information and IT become goods and start playing important part in the country’s economy.
These processes affect social structures and values.
It becomes important to learn to get new knowledge quickly and sometimes to change your qualification. IT can first lead to unemployment, but later create even more workplaces especially for highly qualified professionals. While the hardest work can be performed by robots and routine calculations by computers, in the future people with the most creative mind and numerous fresh ideas will get better career chances.
On one hand technology development gives more access to professional and cultural information and leads to new forms of individual enterprises. But on the other hand there is a danger of total control of private life unless special laws are enforced by the government.
Another danger is «intellectual terrorism» when computer viruses block important programs.
There are other directions of technical and scientific progress of today.
One of them is the development of new ecologically clean sources of energy using sun, gravitation, winds or rain. New kind of transports and new agricultural methods that do not harm our nature are being developed today.
Breakthroughs in science have led to creation of artificial viruses for new medicines and products, body organs for transplantation and productive soils for growing vegetables and crops. Many new materials and technologies are being used in our everyday life.
All these innovations may have influence on our life, social relations and globally on our Earth.
The influence can be very different: from psychological and health problems of children who spend too much time online to an opportunity to prevent genetic diseases for future generations.
But the most difficult problems the humanity faces are global problems.
The first and foremost is ecological problem: pollution of air, water and soil, exhaustion of natural resources. Renewable natural resources such as oxygen, forests, flora and fauna do not have enough time to regenerate. This leads to different changes in climate and nature such as depletion of ozone layer and other things that has not been properly studied by scientists yet.
Other crucial problems include wars, epidemics, and demographic problems.
The only way to solve them is to work globally and in cooperation with other countries. And here the humanity should find a way to use new technologies for the common good. The solution of these problems cannot be postponed because otherwise people will have fewer chances to survive on this planet.

Все эти новшества могут иметь влияние на нашу жизнь, социальные взаимоотношения и в мировом масштабе на нашу Землю.
Влияние может быть различным: от психологических проблем и проблем со здоровьем у детей, которые проводят слишком много времени в интернете до возможности предотвращать генетические заболевания у будущих поколений.

50 years ago people didn’t even heard of computers, and today we cannot imagine life without them.
Computer technology is the fastest-growing industry in the world. The first computer was the size of a minibus and weighed a ton. Today, its job can be done by a chip the size of a pin head. And the revolution is still going on.
Very soon we’ll have computers that we’ll wear on our wrists or even in our glasses and earrings.
The next generation of computers will be able to talk and even think for themselves. They will contain electronic “neural networks”. Of course, they’ll be still a lot simpler than human brains, but it will be a great step forward. Such computers will help to diagnose illnesses, find minerals, identify criminals and control space travel.
Some people say that computers are dangerous, but I don’t agree with them.
They save a lot of time. They seldom make mistakes. It’s much faster and easier to surf the Internet than to go to the library. On-line shopping makes it possible to find exactly what you want at the best price, saving both time and money. E-mail is a great invention, too. It’s faster than sending a letter and cheaper than sending a telegram.
All in all, I strongly believe that computers are a useful tool. They have changed our life for the better. So why shouldn’t we make them work to our advantage?

Since the first automobile was introduced to our life, we can notice that there are a lot of changes happened around us. As a modern transportation, it not only brings convenience to our daily life, but also enhances the efficiency.
One of advantages of using automobiles is that it can give the users much more convenience compared with other transportations, such as bikes or buss. For me, I like to go to the supermarket once per week and normally buy many foods at one time. Can you imagine that I need to carry a lot of foodstuff and maybe take a crowded bus to reach home? How inconvenient it is! Suppose that I have a car, and then I will feel very easy because what I need to do is to put all my stuff at the back of the car.
On the other hand, automobiles can save our time and energy. Driving the automobile, we can go wherever we want to go. We can reach the destination faster than other transportation means. We can use the saved hours to enjoy the views or do anything that we want. After all, time means a lot to modern people. It can mean money to businessmen, knowledge to school students and profit to companies. By means of cutting time with the help of automobiles, we can increase the efficiency of our society.

A century is a long period for scientific and technological progress, as it’s rather rapid. Millions of investigations the endless number of outstanding discoveries have been made. Our century has had several names that were connected with a certain era in science and technology. At first it was called the atomic age due to the discovery of the splitting of the atom. Then it became the age of the conquest of space when for the first time in the history of mankind a man overcame the gravity and entered the Universe. And now we live in the information era when the computer network embraces the globe and connects not only the countries and space stations but a lot of people all over the world.
All these things prove the power and the greatest progressive role of science in our life. But every medal has its reverse. And the rapid scientific progress has aroused a number of problems that are a matter of our great concern. These are ecological problems, the safety of nuclear power stations, the nuclear war threat, and the responsibility of a scientist. But still we are grateful to the outstanding men of the past and the present who have courage and patience to disclose the secrets of the Universe.
Films and science fiction books have often played with the idea of reproducing exact copies of people. Today, science fiction has become science fact. We have our first real clones, though they are not human beings — yet!

At present mobile phones have become ingrained in our everyday lives and the majority of people can hardly imagine themselves without cell phones. Is it just a tribute to fashion or a necessity of a modern person?
It isn’t a secret that today many people feel quite helpless if they have left their mobile phones at home. First of all cell phones give us an opportunity to keep in touch with people in any place and in any time (it’s especially important for businesspeople). Besides, modern mobile phones are multi-function: they provide access to the Internet, have various games, cameras, memory sticks, etc.
Nevertheless we can’t deny that mobile phones provoke a range of problems. People have started to see each other less frequently. Mobile communication requires quite a lot of money and people have to control the amount of money on their accounts constantly otherwise at the most inappropriate moment they won’t be able to phone the people they need. But the greatest disadvantage of cell phones is certainly their harmful influence on people’s health.
In my opinion at the present time mobile phones are an integral part of life of any person and we can’t stop it. I personally need it everyday for my work and to keep in touch with my friends and relatives, though I’m aware of its deleterious influence on my health. But I try to avoid idle talks on the phone to reduce the influence of harmful radio waves. I try to find the happy mean.

One of them is the development of new ecologically clean sources of energy using sun, gravitation, winds or rain. New kind of transports and new agricultural methods that do not harm our nature are being developed today.
Breakthroughs in science have led to creation of artificial viruses for new medicines and products, body organs for transplantation and productive soils for growing vegetables and crops. Many new materials and technologies are being used in our everyday life.
All these innovations may have influence on our life, social relations and globally on our Earth.
The influence can be very different: from psychological and health problems of children who spend too much time online to an opportunity to prevent genetic diseases for future generations.
But the most difficult problems the humanity faces are global problems.
The first and foremost is ecological problem: pollution of air, water and soil, exhaustion of natural resources. Renewable natural resources such as oxygen, forests, flora and fauna do not have enough time to regenerate. This leads to different changes in climate and nature such as depletion of ozone layer and other things that has not been properly studied by scientists yet.
Other crucial problems include wars, epidemics, and demographic problems.
The only way to solve them is to work globally and in cooperation with other countries. And here the humanity should find a way to use new technologies for the common good. The solution of these problems cannot be postponed because otherwise people will have fewer chances to survive on this planet.

Сегодня в основе научного и технического прогресса лежат новые информационные технологии(ИТ), которые значительно отличаются от всех предыдущих технологий. Благодаря новейшему программному обеспечению и роботам, новые ИТ могут ускорить многие процессы и быстрее передавать информацию. Сегодня это важно, потому что количество информации быстро растет.
Новое информационное общество имеет свои особенности. Во-первых, больше и больше сотрудников работают в сфере обслуживания и информации. Во-вторых, появляется все больше огромных хранилищ баз данных, для сбора и хранения информации. И наконец, информация и ИТ становятся товарами и начинают играть важную роль в экономике страны.
Эти процессы влияют на социальные структуры и ценности.
Становится важно получать быстро новые знания и иногда менять свою квалификацию. ИТ вначале могут привести к безработице, но затем создают даже большее число рабочих мест для высококвалифицированных специалистов. В то время как самая тяжелая работа может выполняться роботами, а стандартные вычисления компьютерами, в будущем люди с самым творческим сознанием и большим количеством свежих идей будут иметь лучшие карьерные возможности.
С одной стороны, развитие технологий дает больше доступа к профессиональной и культурной информации и приводит к созданию новых форм индивидуальных предприятий, но с другой стороны, есть опасность тотального контроля над частной жизнью, если специальные законы не будут приняты правительством.
Другая опасность — это «интеллектуальный терроризм», когда компьютерные вирусы блокируют важные программы.
Есть и другие направления развития научно-технического прогресса сегодня.
Одно из них это развитие новых экологически чистых источников энергии, используя солнце, гравитацию, ветер или дождь. Сегодня развиваются новые виды транспорта и новые сельскохозяйственные методы, которые не вредят природе.
Научные открытия привели к созданию искусственных вирусов для новых лекарств и продуктов, органов для трансплантации и производительных почв для выращивания овощей и злаков. Множество новых материалов и технологий используются в нашей повседневной жизни.
Все эти новшества могут иметь влияние на нашу жизнь, социальные взаимоотношения и в мировом масштабе на нашу Землю.
Влияние может быть различным: от психологических проблем и проблем со здоровьем у детей, которые проводят слишком много времени в интернете до возможности предотвращать генетические заболевания у будущих поколений.
Но самые сложные проблемы, с которыми сталкивается человечество — это глобальные проблемы.
Первая и главная это экологическая проблема: загрязнение воздуха, воды и почвы, истощение природных ресурсов. У возобновляемых природных ресурсов, таких как кислород, леса, флора и фауна не хватает времени на восстановление. Это приводит к различным изменениям в климате и в природе, таким как истощение озонового слоя и другим явлениям, которые еще не достаточно изучены учеными.

We are living in the modern world, full of computers, automatic devices, gadgets, cell phones and many other different interesting and useful things that technological progress has given us for usage. Although not even years have passed as we couldn’t even dream about time when it would be enough just to tap on a screen and get connected with the other person on the different end of the world.
Science has given us possibility to fly into space and step on the moon, to start studying different parts of our galaxy and even farther. For example, what wonderful pictures of our galaxy and planets and stars surrounding Earth Hubble telescope has showed to us. Now we can develop further and maybe ever step on the other planets and even populate it.
Technology has considerably made our life easier due to different discoveries. For example, nowadays we can travel with extremely high speed in different directions: many countries have high-speed trains which help us to feel comfortable all the way.
Older people have different devices that have highly improved the level of their life, such as special cars for driving or hearing aid that helps them to no more feel useless in the society.
On the other hand al this computerized environment may damage us too. Our children spend more and more time playing computer games, texting their friends instead of meeting them in the streets, living more and more in their own virtual world. Girls try to compete whose cell phone or tablet is better and more modern, or who has more friends on Facebook.
Anyway technology has its advantages and disadvantages, but we cannot escape from progress, the development is inevitable. But our responsibility is to preserve ourselves as modern, just and peaceful civilization.

И сейчас мы можем развиваться и дальше, и может быть, ступим на другие планеты и даже поселимся на них.
Технологии сделали нашу жизнь значительно легче, благодаря разным открытиям. Например, сегодня мы можем путешествовать с невероятно высокими скоростями в разные направления: во многих странах уже есть высокоскоростные поезда, позволяющие нам чувствовать себя комфортно в пути.
У пожилых людей появилось множество разных устройств, которые сильно улучшили их уровень жизни, такие как специальные автомобили и слуховые аппараты, позволяющие им чувствовать себя полезными обществу.
С другой стороны вся эта компьютеризированная среда может и навредить. Наши дети проводят все больше и больше времени, играя в компьютерные игры, переписываясь с друзьями, вместо того, чтобы встретиться на улице. Они все больше и больше живут в своем виртуальном мире.
