Just a century ago we didn’t even know about computers and the Internet. But today we take them for granted and can’t imagine our life without these inventions. I think that the Internet (or WorldWideWeb) is the greatest invention ever and it has made a significant impact on our lives.
Nowadays the Internet is affordable almost for anyone and it connects people all around the world. You can stay in touch with your friends, relatives and colleagues. Our modern life will stop without the net because it helps to make on-line business transactions, manage our bank accounts, pay our gas or electricity bills and send important e-mails, for example.
The Internet is the largest source of information. There are millions of Internet sites storing plenty of useful data about everything: science, history, psychology, sports, fashion, music, cooking and many other subjects. We can also download our favourite movies or songs, listen to radio channels or play games. Learning or practising foreign languages is possible with the Internet too.
The Internet saves our time and money. We can do on-line shopping choosing the desirable thing at the best price. And then we just click “Order the delivery”. By the way, we can also sell various things in the net. We often don’t need to go to the library: surfing the net can easily help us to find and open the book we need. Buying stamps and envelopes isn’t required if you’re going to send an e-mail. It takes just a few seconds to send an instant message by e-mail.
The Internet helps shy people or those with low-esteem to find each other on dating sites. On-line chatting through social networking websites is more comfortable for Internet users with the lack of social skills.
I am sure that the Internet has changed our life for the better. There is only one disadvantage about it: some people become rather addicted to it and spend all days long surfing the net, on-line dating or playing games. Over-using the net can be dangerous because new technology victims start neglecting their families, friends, work and real hobbies.

In recent years social media has become deeply integrated in our everyday lives. The concept of social media itself includes several categories: blogs, live journals, forums, chats, dating sites and, of course, social networking sites or SNS. Essentially, they all are platforms for people’s remote communication, i.e. exchange of different types of information: text messages, music, photo and video content. The most popular with the young people are social networking sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vkontakte and so on. On the one hand, a social network is a very convenient tool for a quick message exchange, searching for old friends and making new acquaintances, keeping important information and discussing pressing issues in groups, right in the comfort of one’s home. On the other hand, psychologists and psychiatrists of the world ring alarm bells: social networking addiction too often becomes the cause of serious mental and nervous disorders, such as depression, social isolation, autism, and even suicide attempts of teenagers and young people. To my mind, social networking sites can be both useful and dangerous depending on who and how uses them. And I want to try to analyze their advantages and disadvantages.

The Internet is for sure one of the greatest inventions of last century. The point is that the invention and implementation of it to different spheres of our life has completely changed the way we live it. It has transformed the process of communication, study, search of information and even the way of thinking. But are all these changes positive?
First of all, the existence of the Internet doubtlessly had enormous effect on our lives. Furthermore, it brought more opportunities that had been unachievable before. As for the process of communication, it’s obvious that the appearance of the Internet has given us a chance to keep in touch with people from all over the world. We are able to hear and see our faraway relatives and friends as well as make a deal with clients and business partners from different continents. Moreover, we have unlimited access to any kind of information, which makes it easier to study and develop ourselves.
On the other hand, it’s disputable if we use all these advantages or not. The unlimited access to information can be treated as drawback, because people are not motivated to get knowledge. In addition, the information that is available for everyone is not so desirable any more. The vast majority of teenagers waste their free time surfing useless websites and chatting with each other. They stopped communicating face to face and don’t spend enough time outside. The problem is also that the Internet is like a drug for many people. More and more often we talk about the Internet addiction and how it ruins our lives.
As for me, I can see a lot of advantages and new opportunities that the Internet allows us to use. Nevertheless, we have to be vigilant and do not become addicted.

Интернет однозначно является величайшим изобретением прошлого века. Дело в том, что изобретение и внедрение его в различные сферы нашей жизни совершенно изменило ее образ. Это трансформировало процесс общения, учебы, поиска информации и даже образ нашего мышления. Но все ли эти изменения положительные?
Прежде всего, существование Интернета, несомненно, оказало огромное влияние на нашу жизнь. Кроме того, появилось больше возможностей, которые были недостижимы прежде. Что касается процесса общения, то это очевидно, что появление Интернета дало нам возможность поддерживать отношения с людьми со всего мира. Мы можем слышать и видеть наших далеких родственников и друзей, так же как и заключать сделки с клиентами и бизнес партнерами с других континентов. Более того, у нас есть безграничный доступ к любой информации, что делает нашу учебу и развитие более легким.
С другой стороны, спорным является тот факт, используем ли мы все эти преимущества или нет. When using the Internet, do not forget about safety. As there are people who work towards the Internet safety, there are people who work towards hacking into other people’s computers to steal their personal data.

For centuries people had been living without any great inventions. We can compare the everyday people’s life of the 11th and the 13th centuries and we’ll see it was very similar. But can we say the same about the 19th and the 21st centuries? Certainly, not. Nowadays science and technology are developing so fast that sometimes you can’t «chase» the progress.
In the 30’s the radio was one of the most popular means of spending your leisure time. Then television was invented and the radio became less popular. Today TV has changed a lot since its invention and it’s still popular but it has a serious competitor. It is the Internet. I can’t say exactly what is more popular today – television or the Net. But in my opinion, TV will vanish in 10—20 years and the Internet or even something more modern will become the main source of information and entertainment.
The internet or TV?
Both the Internet and television are the forms of Mass Media that’s why they have some similar features. First of all, they keep people informed. It means that we can get to know about the latest world news due to them, find educational information, articles connected with your hobbies and the like. Secondly, both television and the Net gather big audiences so people can find new topics to discuss. Moreover, it gives a wonderful opportunity to communicate with other people. Certainly, it’s not a direct communication and the Internet and TV can’t change real friends but they just give extra-chances to active people.
TV and the Net are similar in the way they give us information. TV-sets and computers have colorful screens and special sound appliances. Here I’d like to say that one of their disadvantages is a bad influence on health because users are glued to these screens. So we can say the way of giving us information isn’t very convenient and healthy.
However TV and the Web differ very much. The main advantage of the Internet which I appreciate very much is that you don’t depend on somebody or something. There’s no schedule! You just start up your computer and begin surfing the Internet looking for whatever you want. I consider that if you want to know the latest news it’s better to log on the Net. There you’ll choose the topic and read or watch not one but lots of articles on it. Isn’t it comfortable? And you’re not told about crimes, crashes, violence every time (compare with TV news!).
On the Internet you can find not only small news items but big articles on different subjects and even books. To my mind, articles are very useful: they play a big educational role. What about virtual books? Well, I’d rather read paper books. For me reading good books associates with pleasant moments, such as sitting in the armchair, drinking tea and dreaming. Can reading from the screen be so nice? I think, no. Besides, it causes heavy eyestrain and backache.
Nowadays people search for different sorts of music, videos, films in the Web. So do I.
I prefer the Internet to TV because I can find there my favorite music whenever I want. Fortunately, the Internet in our country is quite good, the speed is fast and it’s possible to watch, for instance, a long film there.
Advantages and disadvantages of the Internet.
As anything, the Web has two sides: bad and good. We’ve already talked about a good side. What about its disadvantages? The main problem connected with the Internet is net obsession. It can be compared with TV addiction but I think Internet addiction is more widespread and more destructive. Either adults or children can’t live without the Web. They lose interest in their hobbies, spend their free time in front of the screen. Then they forget about their friends. People destroy their health (some cases were very hazardous: problems were much more serious than bad eyesight). When these people get fired they lose the link between the real and the virtual world. Unfortunately, some people become insane.
Nowadays the Internet addiction is one of the most principal problems. And it’s hard to solve it because the life without Internet is really impossible today.
There are other disadvantages of the Net: a big hourly or monthly fee, diverse computer viruses and harmful programs, which can rob you.
I am a frequent Internet user but I’m not addicted to it. I log on the Web about two times a week. First of all I check my e-mail (I have some pen pals), then I go to my favorite sites (various forums, music sites, sites with diaries). From time to time, I search for articles on school topics. And, finally, sometimes I read news and download music.
Taking everything in account, I’d like to say that every invention usually has its lovers and enemies. We can blame the Web a lot, discuss it every time, but still log on to read the weather forecast or to send a letter to Australia by e-mail. And no one can deny the great role of it. So, if people control themselves everything will be OK.

В 30-х годах радио было одним из наиболее популярных способов скоротать свободное время. Затем было изобретено телевидение и радио стало менее популярно. Сегодня телевидение сильно изменился с момента его изобретения, но оно до сих пор популярно. Недавно у телевидения появился серьезный конкурент – Интернет. Я не могу точно сказать, что более популярно сегодня – телевидение или Интернет. Но, на мой взгляд, телевидение исчезнет через 10-20 лет, а Интернет или еще что-то еще более современное станет главным источником информации и развлечения.
Интернет или телевидение?
Интернет и телевидение – это средства массовой информации, поэтому они имеют некоторые схожие черты. Прежде всего, они держат людей в курсе событий. Это означает, что с их помощью мы можем узнать о последних мировых новостях, найти образовательную информацию, статьи, связанные с нашими хобби и тому подобное. Телевизор и интернет похожи способом подачи информацию. Телевизоры и компьютеры имеют цветные экраны и специальные звуковые приборы. Здесь я хотел бы сказать, что одним из их недостатков является пагубное влияние на здоровье, поскольку пользователи много времени проводят, уставившись в эти экраны. Поэтому мы можем сказать, что способ передачи информации неблаготворно влияет на здоровье.

И там не рассказывают против вашей воли о преступлениях, авариях и насилии (сравните с каналами новостей!).
В интернете вы можете найти не только краткие обзоры, но большие статьи на разные темы и даже книги. На мой взгляд, статьи очень полезны: они играют большую воспитательную роль. Как насчет виртуальных книг? Ну, лично я предпочитаю читать бумажные книги. Для меня чтение хороших книг ассоциируется с приятными моментами, такими как посиделки в кресле с чайком и мечтами. Может ли чтение с экрана быть таким же приятным? Я думаю, нет. Кроме того, сидение за компьютером вызывает зрительное напряжение и боли в спине.
Сейчас люди ищут различные виды музыки, видео, фильмы в Интернете. И я тоже. Я предпочитаю Интернет телевидению, потому что я могу найти там мою любимую музыку, когда захочу. К счастью, Интернет в нашей стране – вполне сносный, скорость быстрая и позволяет посмотреть, например, длинный фильм.
Преимущества и недостатки Интернета.
Как и у всего, у интернета есть две стороны: плохая и хорошая. Мы уже говорили о хорошей стороне. А что насчет недостатков? Основная проблема, связанная с Интернетом – это интернет-зависимость. Её можно сравнить с ТВ-зависимостью, но я думаю, что Интернет-зависимость – более распространенная и более разрушительна. Ни взрослые, ни дети не могу жить без интернета. Они теряют интерес к своим хобби и все свободное время проводят перед экраном. Потом они забывают про своих друзей. Люди также разрушают свое здоровье (некоторые случаи были весьма опасными: проблемы были гораздо серьезнее, чем плохое зрение). Когда таких людей увольняют, они теряют связь между реальным и виртуальным миром. К сожалению, некоторые даже сходят с ума.
В настоящее время Интернет-зависимость является одной из самых главных проблем. И она трудноразрешима, потому что жизнь без Интернета сегодня действительно невозможна.

Я являюсь частым пользователем Интернета, но я не пристрастился к нему. Я захожу в Интернет примерно два раза в неделю. Время от времени, я ищу статьи на школьные темы. И, наконец, иногда я читаю новости и качаю музыку.
Принимая все в расчет, я бы хотел сказать, что каждое нововведение обычно имеет своих поклонников и противников. Мы можем винить интернет за многое, обсуждая его недостатки каждый раз, но все же мы пользуемся им, когда хотим прочитать прогноз погоды или послать письмо в Австралию по электронной почте. Nowadays, almost every home has access to the Internet. We use the Internet for various purposes: gaining necessary information, taking part in communities, and even making money.
In my opinion, modern life can hardly be imagined without the world-wide web. The Internet can be helpful to everybody, including students. Firstly, students can use the Internet for learning purposes. I suppose that it is the strongest reason why they should get access to the Internet. Thousands websites place a mass of good information at the disposal of any person interested in mathematics, chemistry, foreign languages, etc. Many school teachers create special resources for their students. Secondly, the Internet offers a wide range of leisure opportunities. You can get in touch with your friends and send them e-mail messages, picture-cards, photos. You can make new friends from the whole world. The Internet offers a wonderful solution to the problem of loneliness.
Notwithstanding the advantages, the Internet implies serious risks. I think that dating websites pose a real risk to the teenagers. On the one hand, dating websites give you a chance to find a friend who you have much in common with. On the other hand, your new friend may turn out not to be a person you’d like to communicate with. What is more, it is quite possible that your new friend is a criminal. Such contacts may be very dangerous to you. Another grave disadvantage of the Internet is the presence of much information that can hurt your your psyche and even body. I mean pornography, publication of possible ways of suicide or buying and taking drugs.
In my opinion, the quality of information must be one of the top national priorities. It is necessary to pass laws to prevent harmful information from spreading. Much needs to be done to enforce the laws. Internet providers should have a concern in the quality of information being transmitted through their channels.
To sum it up, modern people are in great need of the Internet. But strong measures must be taken to protect them from bad information. If such measures are taken, the Internet will be safe.
Nowadays, almost all mothers and fathers worry that their children spend a lot of time on the Internet. However, parents don`t understand that it`s their lifestyle and try to make their offspring live without computers.
In my opinion, parents shouldn`t limit the time for their children to use computers. First of all, teenagers can communicate with their friends who live far away using e-mail. Secondly, they have a good possibility to develop computer skills. They learn to work with documents, photos and video. In addition, teenagers have a chance to relax after school listening to their favourite music or watching films on the Internet. Besides, they can find a lot of useful information in order to do their homework better.
There are parents who oppose my point of view. They argue that sitting on the Internet is not good for health, especially eyes. They think that teenagers live an unreal life. However, teenagers develop their thinking and spend time with pleasure.
In conclusion, parents should be more understanding to their children. They should help them surfing on the Internet, show interesting sites and never limit the time to use computers. It will make parents closer to their children.

Nowadays, no one can deny the importance of the Internet. Sitting in front of a computer, clicking a mouse, you can shop, download many interesting films, books, read news about subject which is interesting for you, play computer games with other players, chat and send mails to your friends. Internet has drastically changed everything. Since the time of Internet appearance, many other media sources became unnecessary. You can find the information you’re looking for in 5 seconds. It is very convenient for students, professionals, experts and all other people. From one side, it’s great to have everything right here online, from the other side, it’s a shame that people have stopped reading paper books and newspapers. Nowadays the most popular Internet service is e-mail. Most of the people use the network only for sending and receiving e-mail messages. They can do it either they are at home or in the internet clubs or at work. Although the Internet offers us large amount of information, its reliability is dubious because many untrue news stories can be posted and cause confusions to many people. It is very difficult for us to find out what websites are reliable and what are not. Also you can get blackmail or spam. I think that the Internet becomes a way of a person life and it is very harmful for our health. Many teenagers spend a long of time sitting at the computers and spoiling their eyes. I don’t mean that I am against the Internet, but it should have reasonable limits.

Secondly social networks create the possibility to connect with friends, acquaintances or even strangers across the world, which is vital in the modern world. It is true that the world today is full of dramatic events and most news seems to be bad news. But people aren’t interested in ordinary events. That is why there are so many programmes and articles about natural disasters, plane crashes, wars, murders and robberies. Good news doesn’t usually make headlines. Bad news does.
Some people say that journalists are given too much freedom. They often intrude on people’s private lives. They follow celebrities and print sensational stories about them which are untrue or half-true. They take photos of them in their most intimate moments. The question is — should this be allowed?
The main source of news for millions of people is television. People like TV news because they can see everything with their own eyes. And that’s an important advantage. Seeing, as we know, is believing. Besides, it’s much more difficult for politicians to lie in front of the cameras than on the pages of newspapers.
Still, many people prefer the radio. It’s good to listen to in the car, or in the open air, or when you do something about the house.
Newspapers don’t react to events as quickly as TV, but they usually provide us with extra detail, comment and background information.
The Internet has recently become another important source of information. Its main advantage is that news appears on the screen as soon as things happen in real life and you don’t have to wait for news time on TV.

Social networks are very convenient for communication with my friends living abroad. Often I read news online to be aware of events. Of course, there are many problems on the Internet (intrusive advertisement, fraud, illegal websites), but, in my opinion, they are solvable.

Our modern life will stop without the net because it helps to make on-line business transactions, manage our bank accounts, pay our gas or electricity bills and send important e-mails, for example.
The Internet is the largest source of information. There are millions of Internet sites storing plenty of useful data about everything: science, history, psychology, sports, fashion, music, cooking and many other subjects. We can also download our favourite movies or songs, listen to radio channels or play games. Learning or practising foreign languages is possible with the Internet too.
The Internet saves our time and money. We can do on-line shopping choosing the desirable thing at the best price. And then we just click “Order the delivery”. By the way, we can also sell various things in the net. We often don’t need to go to the library: surfing the net can easily help us to find and open the book we need. Buying stamps and envelopes isn’t required if you’re going to send an e-mail. It takes just a few seconds to send an instant message by e-mail.
The Internet helps shy people or those with low-esteem to find each other on dating sites. On-line chatting through social networking websites is more comfortable for Internet users with the lack of social skills.
I am sure that the Internet has changed our life for the better. There is only one disadvantage about it: some people become rather addicted to it and spend all days long surfing the net, on-line dating or playing games. Over-using the net can be dangerous because new technology victims start neglecting their families, friends, work and real hobbies.

The concept of social media itself includes several categories: blogs, live journals, forums, chats, dating sites and, of course, social networking sites or SNS. Essentially, they all are platforms for people’s remote communication, i.e. exchange of different types of information: text messages, music, photo and video content. The most popular with the young people are social networking sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Vkontakte and so on. On the one hand, a social network is a very convenient tool for a quick message exchange, searching for old friends and making new acquaintances, keeping important information and discussing pressing issues in groups, right in the comfort of one’s home. On the other hand, psychologists and psychiatrists of the world ring alarm bells: social networking addiction too often becomes the cause of serious mental and nervous disorders, such as depression, social isolation, autism, and even suicide attempts of teenagers and young people. To my mind, social networking sites can be both useful and dangerous depending on who and how uses them. And I want to try to analyze their advantages and disadvantages.

The Internet is for sure one of the greatest inventions of last century. The point is that the invention and implementation of it to different spheres of our life has completely changed the way we live it. It has transformed the process of communication, study, search of information and even the way of thinking. But are all these changes positive?
First of all, the existence of the Internet doubtlessly had enormous effect on our lives. Furthermore, it brought more opportunities that had been unachievable before. As for the process of communication, it’s obvious that the appearance of the Internet has given us a chance to keep in touch with people from all over the world. We are able to hear and see our faraway relatives and friends as well as make a deal with clients and business partners from different continents. Moreover, we have unlimited access to any kind of information, which makes it easier to study and develop ourselves.
On the other hand, it’s disputable if we use all these advantages or not. The unlimited access to information can be treated as drawback, because people are not motivated to get knowledge. In addition, the information that is available for everyone is not so desirable any more. The vast majority of teenagers waste their free time surfing useless websites and chatting with each other. They stopped communicating face to face and don’t spend enough time outside. The problem is also that the Internet is like a drug for many people. More and more often we talk about the Internet addiction and how it ruins our lives.
As for me, I can see a lot of advantages and new opportunities that the Internet allows us to use. Nevertheless, we have to be vigilant and do not become addicted.

The Internet unites people, indeed. Unfortunately, some people spend too much time on social networks forgetting about face-to-face communication. Social networks and other online services will never replace communication in real life. That is why they should be used within reasonable limits.
When using the Internet, do not forget about safety. As there are people who work towards the Internet safety, there are people who work towards hacking into other people’s computers to steal their personal data.

For centuries people had been living without any great inventions. We can compare the everyday people’s life of the 11th and the 13th centuries and we’ll see it was very similar. But can we say the same about the 19th and the 21st centuries? Certainly, not. Nowadays science and technology are developing so fast that sometimes you can’t «chase» the progress.
In the 30’s the radio was one of the most popular means of spending your leisure time. Then television was invented and the radio became less popular. Today TV has changed a lot since its invention and it’s still popular but it has a serious competitor. It is the Internet. I can’t say exactly what is more popular today – television or the Net. But in my opinion, TV will vanish in 10—20 years and the Internet or even something more modern will become the main source of information and entertainment.
The internet or TV?
Both the Internet and television are the forms of Mass Media that’s why they have some similar features. First of all, they keep people informed. It means that we can get to know about the latest world news due to them, find educational information, articles connected with your hobbies and the like. Secondly, both television and the Net gather big audiences so people can find new topics to discuss. Moreover, it gives a wonderful opportunity to communicate with other people. Certainly, it’s not a direct communication and the Internet and TV can’t change real friends but they just give extra-chances to active people.
TV and the Net are similar in the way they give us information. TV-sets and computers have colorful screens and special sound appliances. Here I’d like to say that one of their disadvantages is a bad influence on health because users are glued to these screens. So we can say the way of giving us information isn’t very convenient and healthy.
However TV and the Web differ very much. The main advantage of the Internet which I appreciate very much is that you don’t depend on somebody or something. There’s no schedule! You just start up your computer and begin surfing the Internet looking for whatever you want. I consider that if you want to know the latest news it’s better to log on the Net. There you’ll choose the topic and read or watch not one but lots of articles on it. Isn’t it comfortable? And you’re not told about crimes, crashes, violence every time (compare with TV news!).
On the Internet you can find not only small news items but big articles on different subjects and even books. To my mind, articles are very useful: they play a big educational role. What about virtual books? Well, I’d rather read paper books. For me reading good books associates with pleasant moments, such as sitting in the armchair, drinking tea and dreaming. Can reading from the screen be so nice? I think, no. Besides, it causes heavy eyestrain and backache.
Nowadays people search for different sorts of music, videos, films in the Web. So do I.
I prefer the Internet to TV because I can find there my favorite music whenever I want. Fortunately, the Internet in our country is quite good, the speed is fast and it’s possible to watch, for instance, a long film there.
Advantages and disadvantages of the Internet.
As anything, the Web has two sides: bad and good. We’ve already talked about a good side. What about its disadvantages? The main problem connected with the Internet is net obsession. It can be compared with TV addiction but I think Internet addiction is more widespread and more destructive. Either adults or children can’t live without the Web. They lose interest in their hobbies, spend their free time in front of the screen. Then they forget about their friends. People destroy their health (some cases were very hazardous: problems were much more serious than bad eyesight). When these people get fired they lose the link between the real and the virtual world. Unfortunately, some people become insane.
Nowadays the Internet addiction is one of the most principal problems. And it’s hard to solve it because the life without Internet is really impossible today.
There are other disadvantages of the Net: a big hourly or monthly fee, diverse computer viruses and harmful programs, which can rob you.
I am a frequent Internet user but I’m not addicted to it. I log on the Web about two times a week. First of all I check my e-mail (I have some pen pals), then I go to my favorite sites (various forums, music sites, sites with diaries). From time to time, I search for articles on school topics. And, finally, sometimes I read news and download music.
Taking everything in account, I’d like to say that every invention usually has its lovers and enemies. We can blame the Web a lot, discuss it every time, but still log on to read the weather forecast or to send a letter to Australia by e-mail. And no one can deny the great role of it. So, if people control themselves everything will be OK.

На протяжении веков люди жили без каких-либо великих изобретений. Мы можем сравнить повседневную жизнь людей 11-го и 13-го веков, и увидим, что она была весьма схожа. Но можем ли мы сказать то же самое про 19 и 21-й века? Конечно, нет! Сегодня наука и технология развиваются настолько быстро, что иногда мы не поспеваем за прогрессом.
В 30-х годах радио было одним из наиболее популярных способов скоротать свободное время. Затем было изобретено телевидение и радио стало менее популярно. Сегодня телевидение сильно изменился с момента его изобретения, но оно до сих пор популярно. Недавно у телевидения появился серьезный конкурент – Интернет. Я не могу точно сказать, что более популярно сегодня – телевидение или Интернет. Но, на мой взгляд, телевидение исчезнет через 10-20 лет, а Интернет или еще что-то еще более современное станет главным источником информации и развлечения.
Интернет или телевидение?
Интернет и телевидение – это средства массовой информации, поэтому они имеют некоторые схожие черты. Прежде всего, они держат людей в курсе событий. Это означает, что с их помощью мы можем узнать о последних мировых новостях, найти образовательную информацию, статьи, связанные с нашими хобби и тому подобное. Во-вторых, и телевизор, и интернет собирают большую аудиторию, дают людям новые темы для обсуждения. Это дает замечательную возможность познакомиться с другими людьми. Конечно, это не прямая связь и Интернет и телевидение не могут заменить настоящих друзей, но они дают дополнительные возможности для активных людей.
Телевизор и интернет похожи способом подачи информацию. Телевизоры и компьютеры имеют цветные экраны и специальные звуковые приборы. Здесь я хотел бы сказать, что одним из их недостатков является пагубное влияние на здоровье, поскольку пользователи много времени проводят, уставившись в эти экраны. Поэтому мы можем сказать, что способ передачи информации неблаготворно влияет на здоровье.
Однако ТВ и в Интернете отличаются очень сильно. Главное преимущество Интернета, которое я очень ценю, в том, что пользователь не зависим от кого-то или чего-то. Здесь нет никакого расписания! Вы просто включаете свой компьютер и начинаете искать в Интернете все, что пожелаете. Я считаю, что если вы хотите узнать последние новости – лучше поискать в сети. Там можно выбрать тему и почитать или посмотреть не одну, а много статей. Разве это не удобно? И там не рассказывают против вашей воли о преступлениях, авариях и насилии (сравните с каналами новостей!).
В интернете вы можете найти не только краткие обзоры, но большие статьи на разные темы и даже книги. На мой взгляд, статьи очень полезны: они играют большую воспитательную роль. Как насчет виртуальных книг? Ну, лично я предпочитаю читать бумажные книги. Для меня чтение хороших книг ассоциируется с приятными моментами, такими как посиделки в кресле с чайком и мечтами. Может ли чтение с экрана быть таким же приятным? Я думаю, нет. Кроме того, сидение за компьютером вызывает зрительное напряжение и боли в спине.
Сейчас люди ищут различные виды музыки, видео, фильмы в Интернете. И я тоже. Я предпочитаю Интернет телевидению, потому что я могу найти там мою любимую музыку, когда захочу. К счастью, Интернет в нашей стране – вполне сносный, скорость быстрая и позволяет посмотреть, например, длинный фильм.
Преимущества и недостатки Интернета.
Как и у всего, у интернета есть две стороны: плохая и хорошая. Мы уже говорили о хорошей стороне. А что насчет недостатков? Основная проблема, связанная с Интернетом – это интернет-зависимость. Её можно сравнить с ТВ-зависимостью, но я думаю, что Интернет-зависимость – более распространенная и более разрушительна. Ни взрослые, ни дети не могу жить без интернета. Они теряют интерес к своим хобби и все свободное время проводят перед экраном. Потом они забывают про своих друзей. Люди также разрушают свое здоровье (некоторые случаи были весьма опасными: проблемы были гораздо серьезнее, чем плохое зрение). Когда таких людей увольняют, они теряют связь между реальным и виртуальным миром. К сожалению, некоторые даже сходят с ума.
В настоящее время Интернет-зависимость является одной из самых главных проблем. И она трудноразрешима, потому что жизнь без Интернета сегодня действительно невозможна.
Есть и другие недостатки интернета: большой почасовая или ежемесячная плата, разнообразные компьютерные вирусы и вредоносные программы, которые могут вас ограбить.
Я являюсь частым пользователем Интернета, но я не пристрастился к нему. Я захожу в Интернет примерно два раза в неделю. В первую очередь, я проверяю свою почту (у меня есть несколько друзей по переписке), затем я захожу на свои любимые сайты (различные форумы, музыкальные сайты, сайты с дневниками). Время от времени, я ищу статьи на школьные темы. И, наконец, иногда я читаю новости и качаю музыку.
Принимая все в расчет, я бы хотел сказать, что каждое нововведение обычно имеет своих поклонников и противников. Мы можем винить интернет за многое, обсуждая его недостатки каждый раз, но все же мы пользуемся им, когда хотим прочитать прогноз погоды или послать письмо в Австралию по электронной почте. И никто не может отрицать огромную роль интернета. Так что, если человек будет себя контролировать, то все будет хорошо.

Every day we communicate with scores of people; we talk about politics, work, life, money and so on. After all, do we know what communication is? An encyclopedia says that “communication is a process whereby information is enclosed, channeled and imparted by a sender to a receiver via some medium. The receiver than decodes the message and gives the sender a feedback”. So, this is a scientific explanation of the notion “communication”. But what dies communication mean for common person of any age, sex, rank and social position?
Communication is one of the most important necessities of every human being. Even millions years ago when primitive men could not speak, they communicate with the help of gestures, sounds and pictures. If we try to imagine our life without communication with each other, the picture will be dull and unemotional, like the science fiction where people are replaced by robots.
Besides exchanging the information, we exchange our feelings, emotions, gestures and so on. Communication can reveal different feelings. According to the theme of the communication, communicator, conditions, communication can leave us happy, satisfied, indifferent, irritated or enraged. Sometimes good communication can replace medicine in the case of depression. Our relatives and close people can understand anything without words just looking at our eyes, and that is communication too.
Now people can communicate even if their dialog is not face to face. Modern gadgets give us such opportunity. For instance, sending a short messageby the mobile phone, you can put different marks or smiles conveying your emotions; using the program Skype for chattering you can see your partners face and all gestures he uses.
On the other hand, there is a great detail that cannot substitute communication face to face. When you communicate with a person who can even keep silence, you can understand this person by his or her gestures, eyes and body language. During our communication we often unconsciously touch each other, and that also gives us a piece of information.
To draw a conclusion, I suppose that all modern and fashionable gadgets for communication are really useful things when you have no opportunity to meet a person. Nevertheless, if you have one, enjoy every moment of this process because it is a real treasure and “Good communication is as stimulating as black coffee and just as hard to sleep after”.
Каждый день мы общаемся с десятками людей; мы разговариваем о политике, работе, жизни, деньгах и так далее. Но все же, знаем ли мы что такое коммуникация? Энциклопедия говорит, что «коммуникация – это процесс, в котором заключенная информация передается через определенные каналы связи получателю. Получатель декодирует эту информацию и передает ответ отправителю». Это научное объяснение понятия коммуникация. Что же это понятие означает для обычного человека, независимо от его возраста, пола, рода деятельности и социального положения?
Общение является одной из самых важных потребностей человека. Даже миллионы лет назад, когда первобытные люди еще не умели говорить, они общались посредством жестов, звуков и рисунков. Если мы попробуем представить нашу жизнь без общения друг с другом, картина получится достаточно скучной и безэмоциональной, напоминая фантастический фильм, в котором роботы заменили человека.
Кроме того, что в процессе коммуникации мы обмениваемся информацией, мы также обмениваемся чувствами, эмоциями и жестами. Общение может проявить в нас разные чувства. Оно может оставить нас счастливыми, удовлетворенными, безразличными, раздраженными и даже разгневанными. Иногда хорошее общение может заменить лекарство в случае депрессии. Наши родственники и близкие люди могут понять нас без слов, лишь заглянув в наши глаза, и это то же будет являться коммуникацией.
Сейчас люди могут общаться даже не видя собеседника. Современные технологии дают нам такую возможность. Например, посылая сообщение через мобильный телефон, мы можем добавить различные знаки и смайлики, передавая наши эмоции; используя программу «Скайп» для общения, мы можем видеть лицо собеседника и все его жесты.
С другой стороны, есть один существенный момент, из-за которого ничем нельзя заменить общение вживую. Когда вы общаетесь с человек, он даже может не говорить ни слова, но вы поймете его чувства при помощи его жестов, глаз, движений тела. В процессе общения мы не редко неосознанно дотрагиваемся до собеседника, при этом мы тоже получаем некую информацию.
Подводя итоги, мне бы хотелось сказать, что все современные и модные на сегодняшний день средства коммуникации безусловно полезны, если у вас нет возможности поговорить с собеседником с глазу на глаз. Однако если такая возможность все же существует, наслаждайтесь каждым моментом этого процесса, потому что общение – это сокровище, ведь «хорошее общение пробуждает как черный кофе, и после него также сложно уснуть».

Nowadays, almost every home has access to the Internet. We use the Internet for various purposes: gaining necessary information, taking part in communities, and even making money.
In my opinion, modern life can hardly be imagined without the world-wide web. The Internet can be helpful to everybody, including students. Firstly, students can use the Internet for learning purposes. I suppose that it is the strongest reason why they should get access to the Internet. Thousands websites place a mass of good information at the disposal of any person interested in mathematics, chemistry, foreign languages, etc. Many school teachers create special resources for their students. Secondly, the Internet offers a wide range of leisure opportunities. You can get in touch with your friends and send them e-mail messages, picture-cards, photos. You can make new friends from the whole world. The Internet offers a wonderful solution to the problem of loneliness.
Notwithstanding the advantages, the Internet implies serious risks. I think that dating websites pose a real risk to the teenagers. On the one hand, dating websites give you a chance to find a friend who you have much in common with. On the other hand, your new friend may turn out not to be a person you’d like to communicate with. What is more, it is quite possible that your new friend is a criminal. Such contacts may be very dangerous to you. Another grave disadvantage of the Internet is the presence of much information that can hurt your your psyche and even body. I mean pornography, publication of possible ways of suicide or buying and taking drugs.
In my opinion, the quality of information must be one of the top national priorities. It is necessary to pass laws to prevent harmful information from spreading. Much needs to be done to enforce the laws. Internet providers should have a concern in the quality of information being transmitted through their channels.
To sum it up, modern people are in great need of the Internet. But strong measures must be taken to protect them from bad information. If such measures are taken, the Internet will be safe.
Nowadays, almost all mothers and fathers worry that their children spend a lot of time on the Internet. However, parents don`t understand that it`s their lifestyle and try to make their offspring live without computers.
In my opinion, parents shouldn`t limit the time for their children to use computers. First of all, teenagers can communicate with their friends who live far away using e-mail. Secondly, they have a good possibility to develop computer skills. They learn to work with documents, photos and video. In addition, teenagers have a chance to relax after school listening to their favourite music or watching films on the Internet. Besides, they can find a lot of useful information in order to do their homework better.
There are parents who oppose my point of view. They argue that sitting on the Internet is not good for health, especially eyes. They think that teenagers live an unreal life. However, teenagers develop their thinking and spend time with pleasure.
In conclusion, parents should be more understanding to their children. They should help them surfing on the Internet, show interesting sites and never limit the time to use computers. It will make parents closer to their children.

В заключение, родителям следует относится к подросткам с пониманием. Им стоит помогать детям лазить в интернете, показать им интересные сайты и не ограничивать их время работы за компьютером. Это поможет родителям стать ближе к своим детям.

Modern life is easy and fun. We have all the amenities. We do not need to go to the movies, because we have big TVs at home. The children have cell phones with large displays. Modern technology is useful and convenient. In my opinion, Internet is the most comfortable thing. Computers are also an important invention, but Internet is better than any other type of information. Originally, Internet was a military experiment in the USA of 60-s. But soon it became clear that everyone in the world can use it.
Everybody knows that the Internet is a global computer network, which embraces hundreds of millions of users all over the world. The Internet has already entered our ordinary life. It’s hard to imagine our lives without Internet nowadays. It has become an important part of every person’s life. It is clear that the accurate number of users can be counted fairly approximately, nobody knows exactly how many people use the Internet today, because there are hundreds of millions of users and their number is growing.
Nowadays, no one can deny the importance of the Internet. Sitting in front of a computer, clicking a mouse, you can shop, download many interesting films, books, read news about subject which is interesting for you, play computer games with other players, chat and send mails to your friends. Internet has drastically changed everything. Since the time of Internet appearance, many other media sources became unnecessary. You can find the information you’re looking for in 5 seconds. It is very convenient for students, professionals, experts and all other people. From one side, it’s great to have everything right here online, from the other side, it’s a shame that people have stopped reading paper books and newspapers. Nowadays the most popular Internet service is e-mail. Most of the people use the network only for sending and receiving e-mail messages. They can do it either they are at home or in the internet clubs or at work. With the help of the internet people from different parts of the planet can communicate with each other and share information without leaving their home. It has become easier to meet like-minded people from all over the world and become friends with them.
There are many different Internet competitions for different subjects which give students the opportunity to participate even in international competitions. Thanks to the Internet, people can quickly sell, advertise and share knowledge, idea, and personal feelings. People enter the world of virtual reality to avoid everyday problems. In spite of all the good sides that Internet has, there are some drawbacks. First of all, they are viruses, which can be very dangerous for any computer. That’s why it’s good to have reliable anti-virus software installed. Other minus is the violent content. There is a lot of violence and cruelty online. People are suffering from inappropriate information on the Internet, because it is very hard to control information from the Internet. Although the Internet offers us large amount of information, its reliability is dubious because many untrue news stories can be posted and cause confusions to many people. It is very difficult for us to find out what websites are reliable and what are not. Also you can get blackmail or spam. I think that the Internet becomes a way of a person life and it is very harmful for our health. Many teenagers spend a long of time sitting at the computers and spoiling their eyes. I don’t mean that I am against the Internet, but it should have reasonable limits.
We don`t imagine our lives without Internet. We can find all necessary information there. We use popular services and sources every day. One of the most popular sources is social nets. A social network is a very useful invention of the 21st century. Nowadays millions of people use social networks. It is an Internet site that gives us a chance to support various contacts, keep friendly relationships with classmates, acquaintances. More functional social nets allow watching photos and video films, to listen to music and so on. There is a possibility to enter different interesting groups. There exist social nets connecting people according to a general interest, for example, computer games players are combined into a social net.
People got used to surfing on the Internet because it is quick and very easy to discover any wish. You don`t need to think of suggestions and ideas. At least what you need is to be able to type correctly. I think social networks help disabled and lonely people very much. They can create an account and start communicating with other identical partners. Most of social networks are used by people to meet friends with similar interests and hobbies. Very often close – minded persons find each other on the Internet. Although people live far away from one another any network can unite them. However why are social networks so widespread and widely used? As we live in an era where technology is at its peak and is in constant development, things like reading books on the internet, shopping online and communication with contacts around the globe, which were impossible a hundred years ago, are now part of everyday life. The most vital part of today’s world is speed – the speed of acquiring information.
The appeal of social networks lies firstly in their accessibility – the registration on most of the popular social networks is free of charge. Accessibility and ease of use is what makes sites such as Facebook and MySpace appealing. Secondly social networks create the possibility to connect with friends, acquaintances or even strangers across the world, which is vital in the modern world. While during the pre-internet era communication required countless amounts of time, energy and money then today it is only a click away. In addition social networks allow people to monitor the social developments of their ‘friend list’. Finally, in addition to fulfilling the task of a social network, sites such as Facebook, provide entertainment for their users. Take for instance the Facebook applications, which feature all kinds of quizzes and games for the users. And so numbers of users of Facebook are millions.
Writing and receiving correspondence with the help of post is a long process. It takes time and money. More over a letter can be lost. But e-mail can`t be lost and doesn`t take much time. A social network is a very useful invention of the 21st century. Thanks to modern technologies people can not only write different kinds of letters to their partners all over the world, but talk and see them by means of a web camera. But on the other hand, social networks are a great trouble. They made people forget traditional heart-to-heart talk. Sometimes you can`t see the eyes of your partners and feel their emotions. Besides, social networks are full of aggressive, cruel, violent and dangerous videos for children.
Many uncertain persons try to raise their self-confidence using social networks. It can be said that on the internet, namely on social networking sites you can never be certain of who is “listening”. I believe networks can be used by adult people and children at the age of fourteen and up. As for me, I use social networks with great pleasure as they give me a helping hand with my self-education and communication.
The mass media play an important part in our lives. Newspapers, radio and especially TV inform us of what is going on in this world and give us wonderful possibilities for education and entertainment. They also influence the way we see the world and shape our views.
Of course, not all newspapers and TV programmes report the events objectively, but serious journalists and TV reporters try to be fair and provide us with reliable information.
It is true that the world today is full of dramatic events and most news seems to be bad news. But people aren’t interested in ordinary events. That is why there are so many programmes and articles about natural disasters, plane crashes, wars, murders and robberies. Good news doesn’t usually make headlines. Bad news does.
Some people say that journalists are given too much freedom. They often intrude on people’s private lives. They follow celebrities and print sensational stories about them which are untrue or half-true. They take photos of them in their most intimate moments. The question is — should this be allowed?
The main source of news for millions of people is television. People like TV news because they can see everything with their own eyes. And that’s an important advantage. Seeing, as we know, is believing. Besides, it’s much more difficult for politicians to lie in front of the cameras than on the pages of newspapers.
Still, many people prefer the radio. It’s good to listen to in the car, or in the open air, or when you do something about the house.
Newspapers don’t react to events as quickly as TV, but they usually provide us with extra detail, comment and background information.
The Internet has recently become another important source of information. Its main advantage is that news appears on the screen as soon as things happen in real life and you don’t have to wait for news time on TV.

This global network of computers unites all the nations in the single informational space. Although just forty years ago it seemed to be fantastic, today everyone can find information of almost any type (a novel, a legal document, a rare photo, or an opera audio record) in any language rather quickly and simply. Due to the Internet, students not always must go to the library to read an article on their specialty, and managers may control the market statistics with a few mouse clicks.

I also use some opportunities given by the Internet – for example, in my work tied with translation and in scientific research. Social networks are very convenient for communication with my friends living abroad. Often I read news online to be aware of events. Of course, there are many problems on the Internet (intrusive advertisement, fraud, illegal websites), but, in my opinion, they are solvable.
