The Olympic Games in Sochi 2014.
The Olympic Games are the world’s brightest sporting event. Hundreds of athletes dream of participating in them. Those who go up the Olympic pedestal become an example for millions of spectators. Their achievements remain in the history of sport and the Olympic movement forever.
The motto of the Olympics is the slogan offered by Baron Pierre de Coubertin in 1894. It sounds like “Faster, higher, stronger”. Since the end of the 19th century every four years people all over the world stand motionless, watching the competitions of the best athletes from different continents in the White Olympic Games. And then it is decided who is “the fastest, the highest, the strongest” of all, who will receive a great honour to have a title of the Olympic champion of the Winter Olympics and possess the Olympic medal. It is known that this medal is the highest award in sport. I think it is quite fair. The best sportsmen win the Olympic Games. The victory in such competitions is always a great talent together with hard work, years of training, traumata, disappointments… It is known that first of all, each athlete wins himself – his fears, doubts, pain and laziness. Therefore, it is possible to say that the Olympic Games improve a person, help him come nearer to the ideal – to the Gods, who lived in Ancient Olympia.
The Winter Olympic Games are held every four years. The cities of the whole world fight for the right to hold the next competitions. The 2014 Winter Olympic Games will be held in the Russian city of Sochi. Having received the right to host the Winter Olympics some Russians have a question: “Do we need them? They are too expensive for our country!” Certainly, we have a lot of problems which we must solve. They are problems in medicine, culture, education and so on. But on the other hand, the Olympic Games are a national holiday, the event uniting all the people with a common idea. The Olympic Games last only three weeks, but the authority and respect of the country remain forever.
Like the majority of the Russians, I am very glad of the fact of holding the winter games in Sochi and I consider that it is a great honour for my country. Undoubtedly, I am going to keep an eye on the games in Sochi, to watch the competitions on TV, to root for our Russian sportsmen very actively. The English proverb says: ”Every dog is a lion at home”. That’s why I hope that thanks to the support of millions of fans our sportsmen will be able to rise to the highest step of the pedestal in each kind of winter sports.
Besides, the Olympic Games are the opportunity for Russian people to rethink their attitude to sport. I believe that the preparation for the White Olympic Games will become the beginning of a real revival of sport in our country. Sports schools, stadiums, playgrounds will be built and reconstructed, free sections will be opened for children and teenagers. Perhaps, some today’s kids, who go skating or skiing, will set a goal – to get to the White Olympics, not in 2014, of course, but some of them, without any doubt, will achieve their goals.
Any person can hope for success. He or she should only strive for it. The more people will seek for high achievements in sport, the more champions and record-breakers of the Winter Olympic Games will be! I wish great victories and personal records to all the future champions!

But I watch TV sport programs very seldom. I understand that many of them are very spectacular and exciting, my father is mad of watching hockey, or football, my Mom and granny admire figure skating, my sister likes curling, biathlon, snowboarding. Only I, as an ugly duckling, feel indifference to all sport joy on TV.
As for the Winter Olympics I have been waiting for its coming very long. Because I understood it’s the major international multi-sport event. It was interesting for me, how would be changed our Black Sea resort. Will be built on time all infrastructure, stadiums, roads, rail, parks, hotels? Will we become a successful host country? Many people around felt negative expectations and fear. Caucasus is not the most peaceful place in our country. It is the subtropical zone and will it be enough snow in the mountains? Some world leaders boycott this sport event.
We looked forward to the coming Olympic Games. That’s why, when the Opening Ceremony began, all of our family was at the TV set. It’s not a secret that the opening ceremony is, to many people, the most interesting part of the games. We were full of expectations. And we didn’t mistake. Although the Opening Ceremony lasted too long, about 3 hours, we were watching everything on TV. The performance was great. It was the show of highest quality with fantastic visual aspects, a giant Russian Troika — a three-horse drawn carriage in the air, stunning graphic visual of the sea and ships, Peter the Great and his army, ballroom scene from War and Peace, flying train as the symbol of Russian industrialization.
The plot of the authors was to present the main sheets of Russian history through the eyes of a little girl named Lubov. Many colors, wonderful dresses, lazar shows, brilliant fireworks, excellent music, all this made colorful fantasy of the Opening Ceremony unforgettable. We were shocked and proud of our country. We made it; we showed to the whole world that we are big rich, creative. We have great past, difficult but decisive present and interesting future.
I like also the Olympic mascots- a snow leopard, a bear and a rabbit. It was very nice to watch them skating around the ice.
We fell in love with our figure skater Julia Lipnitskaya. Julia Lipnitskaya became the dancing queen of Winter Olympics in Sochi, 15-year-old Russian figure skater, tiny teenager won a gold medal among individual women skaters. Young and pretty Julia became the darling of White Olympics in Sochi. She showed to everybody her strong unchildish character and the highest sport form. I followed her impressive performance speechless and enchanted. We saw the birth of a world star. It’s a pity that she had a failure in short program. Great joy to us brought Adelina Sotnikova, who became the Olympic champion in short program. Of course, the Olympic Games brought also sad and upset moments. When four-time Olympic medalist Evgeny Plushenko announced his retirement from figure skating after leaving the Sochi Olympics with a back injury, when the Russian hockey team lost to Finland 1-3. The loss got Russia out of medals, we failed skiing, biathlon, and tragic end had the jump of free style skier Komissarova Maria, who was seriously injured. It was sad and uncomfortable.
But the results of our team in White Olympics were really great! We became the First. It was the fantastic victory. And the Clothing ceremony became the final accord of the Olympic Games in Sochi. It was the show full of sparkles, with little girl Juba and her friends in a floating boat. With acrobats and piano performance, with music of Sergei Rakhmaninov, ballet and circus acts. This show demonstrated all riches of Russian literature, art and music. I am sure that many people in the world got a great pleasure watching it. Thank for this sports festival.
Я не могу назвать себя фанаткой спорта. Отнюдь. Хотя я люблю спорт. И когда за окном хорошая погода, я с удовольствием катаюсь с друзьями на катке, или на лыжах в парке. Я хожу в бассейн, я люблю танцевать и принимаю участие во многих школьных соревнованиях.
Но спортивные соревнования по телевизору, я смотрю редко. Я понимаю, что многие из них очень зрелищны и захватывающи. Мой отец смотрит футбол и хоккей, мама с бабушкой любительницы фигурного катания, моя сестра любит смотреть экзотические виды спорта, такие как кёрлинг, сноубординг, биатлон. Только одна я, как гадкий утёнок, равнодушна ко всем этим спортивным радостям на экране.
Что же касается Олимпийских игр, я ждала их с нетерпением. Потому, что я понимала, что Олимпиада это мега спортивное событие. Тем более, в нашей стране. Для меня было интересно, как изменится наш черноморский курорт. Построим ли мы вовремя все спортивные объекты и всю необходимую инфраструктуру. Станем ли мы успешной страной хозяйкой игр. Многие люди вокруг, испытывали негативные ожидания и страх. Кавказ не самое безопасное место в нашей стране, угрозы терроризма. Это субтропическая зона, будет ли достаточно снега в горах? Многие западные лидеры бойкотировали Олимпиаду в Сочи.
Мы с нетерпением ожидали предстоящую Олимпиаду. Вот почему когда началась церемония Открытия Олимпиады, вся наша семья была у экрана телевизора. Это ведь не секрет, что для большинства зрителей это самая зрелищная часть Олимпийских игр. Мы были полны ожиданий, и мы не ошиблись. Хотя церемония Открытия длилась более 3 часов, мы не отходили от телевизора. Представление было грандиозным. Это было шоу высочайшего качества с фантастическими эффектами: гигантской Русской Тройкой, три мощных коня, тянущих в воздухе повозку, удивительное визуальное море с кораблями, Пётр Великий и его войско, сцена бала с Наташей Ростовой из «Войны и мира» Л.Толстого, летящий поезд, как символ индустриализации страны. Сюжет авторов представления был прост, показать основные страницы истории России, глазами маленькой девочки, с именем Люба. Яркие краски, удивительная одежда, лазерные шоу, великолепные фейерверки, превосходная музыка, всё сделало красочную фантазию церемонии Открытия незабываемой. Мы были потрясены и испытали чувство гордости за свою страну. Мы это сделали! Мы показали всему миру, какие мы большие, богатые и творческие. У нас великое прошлое, трудное, но достойное настоящее и интересное будущее. Мне понравились олимпийские талисманы – снежный барс, медведь и кролик, катающиеся на льду.
Мы влюбились в нашу фигуристку Юлю Липницкую. Она стала танцующей королевой Зимней Олимпиады в Сочи. 15-летняя фигуристка крошечный подросток, выиграла золотую медаль в женском одиночном катании. Молодая и симпатичная Юля стала любимицей Белой Олимпиады в Сочи. Она продемонстрировала всем свой сильный характер и высокую спортивную форму. Я следила за её катанием затаив дыхание и зачарованно. Мы увидели рождение мировой звезды. И конечно грустно, что она упала во время исполнения своей короткой программы. Большую радость доставила нам и Аделина Сотникова, которая стала олимпийской чемпионкой в короткой программе. Конечно, Олимпийские игры принесли немало и грустных и обидных моментов. Когда 4-кратный олимпийский чемпион, объявил, что он снимается с соревнований из-за травмы спины, когда наша сборная по хоккею проиграла финнам 1-3. Мы выбыли из претендентов на медаль, мы провалились в биатлоне, в лыжных гонках у женщин и трагичное падение Марии Комисаровой, нашей лыжницы в прыжках фристайл, когда она получила серьёзнейшую травму. Это было грустно и некомфортно.
Но результаты нашей команды на Белой Олимпиаде были просто великолепны. Мы стали первыми по количеству золотых медалей. Это была фантастическая победа. И закрытие олимпиады стало финальным аккордом Олимпийских игр в Сочи. Это было шоу полное ярких красок с маленькой девочкой Любой и её друзей в плывущей по воздуху лодке. Это было шоу с акробатами и кучей пианино на сцене и музыкой Сергея Рахманинова, балетом и цирковыми представлениями. Шоу показало всё богатство русской литературы, искусства и музыки. Я уверена, что многие люди в мире получили огромное удовольствие, наблюдая за играми. Спасибо за этот потрясающий спортивный фестиваль.

One of the most popular sport competitions is the Olympic Games. They are one of the leading sport competitions in the world. The Olympic Games are held every four year. They can be Winter Games and Summer Games, consequently, Winter Games include winter sports and Summer Games include summer sports.
Одним из самых популярных спортивных соревнований являются Олимпийские игры. Они являются одним из ведущих спортивных соревнований в мире. Олимпийские игры проводятся раз в четыре года. Это ведь не секрет, что для большинства зрителей это самая зрелищная часть Олимпийских игр. Мы были полны ожиданий, и мы не ошиблись. Хотя церемония Открытия длилась более 3 часов, мы не отходили от телевизора. Представление было грандиозным. Это было шоу высочайшего качества с фантастическими эффектами: гигантской Русской Тройкой, три мощных коня, тянущих в воздухе повозку, удивительное визуальное море с кораблями, Пётр Великий и его войско, сцена бала с Наташей Ростовой из «Войны и мира» Л.Толстого, летящий поезд, как символ индустриализации страны. Сюжет авторов представления был прост, показать основные страницы истории России, глазами маленькой девочки, с именем Люба. Яркие краски, удивительная одежда, лазерные шоу, великолепные фейерверки, превосходная музыка, всё сделало красочную фантазию церемонии Открытия незабываемой. Мы были потрясены и испытали чувство гордости за свою страну. Мы это сделали! Мы показали всему миру, какие мы большие, богатые и творческие. У нас великое прошлое, трудное, но достойное настоящее и интересное будущее. Мне понравились олимпийские талисманы – снежный барс, медведь и кролик, катающиеся на льду.
Мы влюбились в нашу фигуристку Юлю Липницкую. Она стала танцующей королевой Зимней Олимпиады в Сочи. 15-летняя фигуристка крошечный подросток, выиграла золотую медаль в женском одиночном катании. Молодая и симпатичная Юля стала любимицей Белой Олимпиады в Сочи. Она продемонстрировала всем свой сильный характер и высокую спортивную форму. Я следила за её катанием затаив дыхание и зачарованно. Мы увидели рождение мировой звезды. И конечно грустно, что она упала во время исполнения своей короткой программы. Большую радость доставила нам и Аделина Сотникова, которая стала олимпийской чемпионкой в короткой программе. Конечно, Олимпийские игры принесли немало и грустных и обидных моментов. Когда 4-кратный олимпийский чемпион, объявил, что он снимается с соревнований из-за травмы спины, когда наша сборная по хоккею проиграла финнам 1-3. Мы выбыли из претендентов на медаль, мы провалились в биатлоне, в лыжных гонках у женщин и трагичное падение Марии Комисаровой, нашей лыжницы в прыжках фристайл, когда она получила серьёзнейшую травму. Это было грустно и некомфортно.
Но результаты нашей команды на Белой Олимпиаде были просто великолепны. Мы стали первыми по количеству золотых медалей. Это была фантастическая победа. И закрытие олимпиады стало финальным аккордом Олимпийских игр в Сочи. Это было шоу полное ярких красок с маленькой девочкой Любой и её друзей в плывущей по воздуху лодке. Это было шоу с акробатами и кучей пианино на сцене и музыкой Сергея Рахманинова, балетом и цирковыми представлениями. Шоу показало всё богатство русской литературы, искусства и музыки. Я уверена, что многие люди в мире получили огромное удовольствие, наблюдая за играми. Спасибо за этот потрясающий спортивный фестиваль.
