other. “Knowledge is power” one of the great men said. Speaking
a foreign language one can not only read the papers, magazines
and original books by outstanding writers, but as well watch
satellite TV programs, travel easily in the different parts of
the world. Besides, understanding and speaking a foreign
language or two became necessary while applying for a good and
well-paid job.
Fortunately, I
began learning English even before I could understand it. Now I
know that it is a must for a XXI century professional no matter
what job to choose. The world is getting smaller and
international connections tighter. One can not do well without
one of the common European languages.
I learn English
because I want to read Kingsley Amis and James Joyce in their
native language. I like Hemingway and Lewis Carroll, Besides, I
like to travel. Speaking English, I shall have no troubles
looking for a room or a meal. I like to talk and make friends
with people from different countries.
Last autumn I
became a member of the Student Реп-Pal Club and now I have much
fun writing letters to my Swiss and American pen friends. I
hope, some day we shall meet each other and have a good time.
There are also
international friendship camps both in Russia and abroad where
you can meet boys and girls from around the globe. They rarely
can speak Russian, which is much more difficult to learn than
English.
In a word, I
understand that I have to learn English hard and in a proper

с другом. «Знание — сила», — сказал один из великих людей. Зная
иностранный язык, можно не только читать газеты, журналы и книги
выдающихся авторов в оригинале, но также смотреть программы
спутникового телевидения, запросто путешествовать в различные
части мира. Кроме того, понимание и говорение на иностранном
языке или двух необходимо, когда вы рассчитываете на хорошо
оплачиваемую работу.
К счастью, я начал изучать
английский язык раньше, чем смог понять это. Теперь я знаю, что
знание английского языка это необходимо для профессионала XXI
столетия, независимо от того, какую работу выбираешь. Мир
становится меньше и международные отношения теснее. Нельзя
преуспеть без знания одного из основных европейских языков.
Я изучаю английский язык, потому что
хочу прочитать Кингсли Амиса и Джеймса Джойса на их родном
языке. Мне нравятся Хемингуэй и Льюис Кэрролл. Кроме того, мне
нравится путешествовать. Умея говорить по-английски, я не буду
иметь неприятности, при поиске комнаты или еды. Мне нравится

Прошлой осенью я стал членом
студенческого клуба друзей по переписке, и теперь я получаю
удовольствие от переписки с моими швейцарскими и американскими

Why do I study English?
Why do I study the English language? There are many reasons for studying foreign language. Our world is very big, it changes constantly. We should be flexible and be able to cope with all problems which we meet every day. One of these problems is a correct dialogue with people.
Very often, we hear how it is important to know foreign languages. We meet them in each kind of mass-media: television, radio, the Internet, the press. So, is it really important to know the English language? Is it necessary to know it to be a successful and self-sufficient person? Yes, I think it is necessary.
There are also other reasons for studying it.
First, in my opinion knowledge of English allows us to travel easily. What a fine feeling to be in another country and to talk to foreigners, to understand them and to express your opinion, to learn more about their life and culture. You become independent of other people. Knowledge of the English language gives you the chance to enjoy viewing the sights of other countries freely. My aunt was in many European countries, but only English knowledge helped her to communicate with people from all countries. The English language is known by all European countries. It is cool!
Moreover, the knowledge of the English language allows you to be successful in technical sphere. Without any doubt English is the language of politics, science, technology, business and pop music. A lot of information in computers is in English: instructions, scientific articles are written in English. If you know English, you can read and understand them.
What about music? What a wonderful feeling! You can understand the sense of songs. You feel satisfaction, new words from the song are not just only the mixture of strange sounds for you. These words have sense, they are meaningful for you. Music is much better if you can understand the words. And films? Watching films in their original forms…Oh, they are worth watching. Language makes you a more powerful and happier person.
In addition, I am convinced that the second language increases your job opportunities and pushes your career forward. Knowledge of English gives you wider list of jobs, you can get your dream job, earn more money and create your future.
In conclusion I want to add that English is a wonderful language. I like studying it. I want to speak like a native speaker. I know that it is very important. One famous poet said, who does not know foreign language, he does not know his own one.So, if you want to understand yourself, you have to study a foreign language.

are absolutely necessary for people nowadays, because of our
growing international contacts with foreign countries.
There are many
reasons, why we begin to study foreign languages. One studies a
foreign language to be able to communicate with other people who
speak this language, other study it for future career.
If we are
planning to travel to countries where the language we can speak
is spoken, we can communicate with people there and understand
what they are saying to us.
If we are working
in any branch of science, we naturally wish to read scientific
books and magazines in other languages to raise our professional
level. Making business nowadays also means the ability of
speaking foreign languages.
The ability of
speaking one or two or even more foreign languages helps people
from different countries to develop mutual friendship and
understanding. We can also make our intellectual and cultural
horizons wider through contacts with people of another culture.
It is also very
interesting to read foreign literature in its original form. We
can also read foreign newspapers and magazines and understand
films in foreign languages without any help and translation.
As for me I learn

Very often, we hear how it is important to know foreign languages. We meet them in each kind of mass-media: television, radio, the Internet, the press. So, is it really important to know the English language? Is it necessary to know it to be a successful and self-sufficient person? Yes, I think it is necessary.
There are also other reasons for studying it.
First, in my opinion knowledge of English allows us to travel easily. What a fine feeling to be in another country and to talk to foreigners, to understand them and to express your opinion, to learn more about their life and culture. You become independent of other people. Knowledge of the English language gives you the chance to enjoy viewing the sights of other countries freely. My aunt was in many European countries, but only English knowledge helped her to communicate with people from all countries. The English language is known by all European countries. It is cool!
Moreover, the knowledge of the English language allows you to be successful in technical sphere. Without any doubt English is the language of politics, science, technology, business and pop music. A lot of information in computers is in English: instructions, scientific articles are written in English. If you know English, you can read and understand them.
What about music? What a wonderful feeling! You can understand the sense of songs. You feel satisfaction, new words from the song are not just only the mixture of strange sounds for you. These words have sense, they are meaningful for you. Music is much better if you can understand the words. And films? Watching films in their original forms…Oh, they are worth watching. Language makes you a more powerful and happier person.
In addition, I am convinced that the second language increases your job opportunities and pushes your career forward. Knowledge of English gives you wider list of jobs, you can get your dream job, earn more money and create your future.
In conclusion I want to add that English is a wonderful language. I like studying it. I want to speak like a native speaker. I know that it is very important. Any Downsides?
Like in mastering anything, it involves learning, and practicing, and
making mistakes, and picking yourself up again. It takes time and
money, but most of all, it takes will
power.
