I live and study in Kazan city, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan. It’s my native city as I was born here. Kazan is located on the left bank of the Volga river and it was founded more than one thousand years ago. So it is a very old place, with rich and fascinating history. The population of my city is multinational and enormous: about one and a half million people. Kazan has changed greatly from the moment when I was born and it has grown much bigger, but still it keeps its own traditions and some strict religious rules. The people of my city are friendly and hospitable, polite and intelligent to my mind.
The capital of Tatarstan is a city of contrasts: there are quarters of modern high-rise buildings and districts with old historical places; some districts are awfully noisy and crowded, with long traffic jams, the others are very clean and quiet. Our transport system is really busy: we have a railway station, a big river port, an airport, buses, trolleybuses, trams and trains of the Kazan metro which was opened in 2005.
There are plenty of impressive sights for our guests in the historical centre of the city: the Kremlin of the 10th century, the Millenium bridge, the Kul-Sharif mosque and other beautiful cathedrals and mosques. Kazan has unique museums, able to suit any taste: the Fine Arts museum, the museum of Leo Tolstoy, the National museum of Tatarstan, the museum of Zoology.
My native city is a recognized sports capital of Russia. It has hosted many important sports events. The International Summer Universiade of 2013 was among them. And in 2018 our city is going to host the FIFA World Cup.
I feel proud of my birthplace and I am sure that Kazan is the place which is worth visiting at least once in our life. I know that many tourists from abroad come here and they feel enraptured with the local sights.

I have many favourite places in my town: the Volga Bay, parks and cinemas.
You can see many people and children on the Volga Bay. There are many exciting coloured fountains here. In summer you can boat and in winter you can skate.
We have a lot of parks. Each park is very nice and cozy, where children and their parents gather for the merry and bright holidays, musical fairy tales, theatrical performances. Cheboksary is situated on both banks of the Volga, and is one of the most beautiful green cities in Russia. The main advantage of the Chuvash Republic is good location on the Volga River, which flows through the picturesque and green places. Volga and Sursko beaches, attractive natural landscape are attractive moments for tourism development.
The town also has a cinema. I love to go and watch movies with friends and parents.
We have a lot of monuments. Cheboksary is the cultural center of the republic and has more than 100 monuments, including prominent figures of culture and art.

MY NATIVE TOWN
I was born in Donetsk and it is my native town. It was founded in 1869 and it was called Uzovka. First it was a small mining settlement but in the upper part of the River Kalmius it had rich stores of coal, and very quickly it grew into a huge mining and industrial centre.
I should say that Donetsk is rich in coal and iron ore. People soon discovered it and in 1866 there appeared first iron workshops. In 1869 John Uze, the London manager, arrived and settled on the banks of the River Kalmius. He was invited by the government, his aim was to develop the rich deposits. John Uze was a good specialist, he built a blacksmith’s workshop, which grew into the future Donetsk Metallurgical Plant. In 1899 there was built a plant producing mining equipment. Today we know it as Donetsk Machine Building Plant.
In 1924 this settlement became a city and was named Stalino. In 1932 it became the capital of Donbass. During World War II the most part of the city was destroyed.
In 1961 the city was called Donetsk. As it was the city with rich deposits its population grew up.
Today we know Donetsk as an administrative, industrial, scientific and cultural centre. There are many industrial enterprises, construction associations and different organizations. Its scientific achievements are known all over Ukraine and even abroad. The educational establishments are famous for the excellent quality of education. Everybody knows Donetsk Medical University, or Donetsk National Technical University. Today there are many other colleges, institutes, universities, where study students not only from Ukraine but also from foreign states. There are line theatres in the city. There is also the Philarmony, a circus, a planetarium, a great number of Palaces of Culture, many museums, libraries, clubs and cinemas.
The main street of Donetsk is Artyoma Street. The streets are long and beautiful. They are always in motion, sometimes even happen traffic jams.
I would like to tell you that I like my town. I know every corner of it. Wherever I go I am always glad to come back to my native town. For me there is no other place in the world where I can feel like home.

St. Petersburg is an important economic, scientific and cultural centre of the country. A lot of enterprises and international companies are located here. Tourism also plays a great role in the economic development of the city. St. Petersburg is not only beloved by Russian citizens, it is the place which foreigners will never forget.
St. Petersburg is a major transport hub. The city has an extensive network of public transport with buses, trams and underground. St. Petersburg is served by Pulkovo International Airport which is located on the outskirts of the city. Apart from that there are some seaports.
Everyone knows that St. Petersburg is usually referred to as the cultural capital of Russia. It is the city of great monuments, historical museums and other sites which belong to the World Heritage. Hey, folks! Ten years ago I discovered my new obsession — travelling. I think it is fun and has a lot of benefits. I’ve visited different places, countries and cities and today I want to share my opinion about my favorite city, St. Petersburg.
Before the October Revolution, St. Petersburg “Window on Europe” was the capital of Russia and one of the world’s cosmopolitan cities. Great number of foreign experts were employed to bring knowledge and expertise in the arts, crafts and sciences that boosted capital to be the one of famous cities in the world.
The city is cultural centre of the country. It’s a place of grandiose architecture and picturesque canals. Wandering around the city you’ll find world-famous attractions like the Hermitage, St. Isaac’s Cathedral and the Mariinsky Theatre. Every traveler can feel rich atmosphere of this beautiful place.
If you want to have a tour around the city I recommend to use public transport network which is efficient and extensive, though a little bit crowded. The metro is without a doubt the best type of transport for visitors and covers nearly all of the city, with new stations opening almost every year. Also you can see some spectacular station architecture. You can even use the city’s waterways to look around.
If you haven’t been there yet, I hope you will visit St. Petersburg one day and witness the charm of the magnificent city.

My name is Slobodchikov Slava. I was born in a small town. It`s called Andreapol. There is a river running across the town. Andreapol is situated on the both sides of the river. It`s called Zapadnaya Dvina. Andreapol region is famous for its great forests and lakes.
Most of the streets are dark and narrow. There are a lot of one family cottages. They are not much different from each other.
In the heart of the town we hame a small square. There are some monuments to an Unknown soldier and a small History museum in the town.
Also you can find a post-office, a railway station, a hospital,a hotel,some shops, 3 secondary schools, musical and sport schools here.
In summer the town is green because of trees and flowers. In winter there is much snow.
The countryside around Andreapol is beatiful. My home – town is a very guiet place with very little traffic, few people in the streets during the day – time. The town has a long and interesting history.

People can live in the city or in rural regions. People decide where they want to live and move there. Sometimes they have to change the place of living because the work requires it. Some people prefer to live in isolation from the rest of the world. They choose places which are located far from cities and rural regions. Sometimes it is quite difficult to get there.

There are many schools and universities in the cities so it is possible to choose a school or university depending on the skills and preferences. The third reason is medicine. There are different doctors and specialists in the cities and it is very important. Living in the city means that you have many opportunities. There are many facilities in the cities such as entertainment centers, cinemas, shopping centers and so on.

Another important thing is to live there some period of time. I cannot understand when people say that this or that city is the city of their dream but they have never been there.

Maybe, I visit not so many cities but once I visited Saint Petersburg. It was the love at the first sight. Of course, before my travel to Saint Petersburg I knew a lot about this city, I saw many photos of it and so on. However in this city I discovered much more than I expected of it.

However also it was interesting for me to do something of daily routine there. So I can say that I knew what it meant to live there though a bit. All-Russian Olympiad of School Students was the second time when I visited Saint Petersburg. That time I had even more opportunities to know the city.

Recently I have been to the city at the bank of the river the Neva – Saint Petersburg. I visited a lot of excursions and knew the city’s history. I was very impressed by magnificent buildings of Cathedrals, ancient Palace`s towers and many other sights. Having seen all the sights I understood that exactly in such cities we could develop the spirit of Homeland and bring up to love the country.

I live and study in Kazan city, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan. It’s my native city as I was born here. Kazan is located on the left bank of the Volga river and it was founded more than one thousand years ago. So it is a very old place, with rich and fascinating history. The population of my city is multinational and enormous: about one and a half million people. Kazan has changed greatly from the moment when I was born and it has grown much bigger, but still it keeps its own traditions and some strict religious rules. The people of my city are friendly and hospitable, polite and intelligent to my mind.
The capital of Tatarstan is a city of contrasts: there are quarters of modern high-rise buildings and districts with old historical places; some districts are awfully noisy and crowded, with long traffic jams, the others are very clean and quiet. Our transport system is really busy: we have a railway station, a big river port, an airport, buses, trolleybuses, trams and trains of the Kazan metro which was opened in 2005.
There are plenty of impressive sights for our guests in the historical centre of the city: the Kremlin of the 10th century, the Millenium bridge, the Kul-Sharif mosque and other beautiful cathedrals and mosques. Kazan has unique museums, able to suit any taste: the Fine Arts museum, the museum of Leo Tolstoy, the National museum of Tatarstan, the museum of Zoology.
My native city is a recognized sports capital of Russia. It has hosted many important sports events. The International Summer Universiade of 2013 was among them. And in 2018 our city is going to host the FIFA World Cup.
I feel proud of my birthplace and I am sure that Kazan is the place which is worth visiting at least once in our life. I know that many tourists from abroad come here and they feel enraptured with the local sights.

MY NATIVE TOWN
I was born in Donetsk and it is my native town. It was founded in 1869 and it was called Uzovka. First it was a small mining settlement but in the upper part of the River Kalmius it had rich stores of coal, and very quickly it grew into a huge mining and industrial centre.
I should say that Donetsk is rich in coal and iron ore. People soon discovered it and in 1866 there appeared first iron workshops. In 1869 John Uze, the London manager, arrived and settled on the banks of the River Kalmius. He was invited by the government, his aim was to develop the rich deposits. John Uze was a good specialist, he built a blacksmith’s workshop, which grew into the future Donetsk Metallurgical Plant. In 1899 there was built a plant producing mining equipment. Today we know it as Donetsk Machine Building Plant.
In 1924 this settlement became a city and was named Stalino. In 1932 it became the capital of Donbass. During World War II the most part of the city was destroyed.
In 1961 the city was called Donetsk. As it was the city with rich deposits its population grew up.
Today we know Donetsk as an administrative, industrial, scientific and cultural centre. There are many industrial enterprises, construction associations and different organizations. Its scientific achievements are known all over Ukraine and even abroad. The educational establishments are famous for the excellent quality of education. Everybody knows Donetsk Medical University, or Donetsk National Technical University. Today there are many other colleges, institutes, universities, where study students not only from Ukraine but also from foreign states. There are line theatres in the city. There is also the Philarmony, a circus, a planetarium, a great number of Palaces of Culture, many museums, libraries, clubs and cinemas.
The main street of Donetsk is Artyoma Street. The streets are long and beautiful. They are always in motion, sometimes even happen traffic jams.
I would like to tell you that I like my town. I know every corner of it. Wherever I go I am always glad to come back to my native town. For me there is no other place in the world where I can feel like home.

St. Petersburg is an important economic, scientific and cultural centre of the country. A lot of enterprises and international companies are located here. Tourism also plays a great role in the economic development of the city. St. Petersburg is not only beloved by Russian citizens, it is the place which foreigners will never forget.
St. Petersburg is a major transport hub. The city has an extensive network of public transport with buses, trams and underground. St. Petersburg is served by Pulkovo International Airport which is located on the outskirts of the city. Apart from that there are some seaports.
Everyone knows that St. Petersburg is usually referred to as the cultural capital of Russia. It is the city of great monuments, historical museums and other sites which belong to the World Heritage. Hey, folks! Ten years ago I discovered my new obsession — travelling. I think it is fun and has a lot of benefits. I’ve visited different places, countries and cities and today I want to share my opinion about my favorite city, St. Petersburg.
Before the October Revolution, St. Petersburg “Window on Europe” was the capital of Russia and one of the world’s cosmopolitan cities. Great number of foreign experts were employed to bring knowledge and expertise in the arts, crafts and sciences that boosted capital to be the one of famous cities in the world.
The city is cultural centre of the country. It’s a place of grandiose architecture and picturesque canals. Wandering around the city you’ll find world-famous attractions like the Hermitage, St. Isaac’s Cathedral and the Mariinsky Theatre. Every traveler can feel rich atmosphere of this beautiful place.
If you want to have a tour around the city I recommend to use public transport network which is efficient and extensive, though a little bit crowded. The metro is without a doubt the best type of transport for visitors and covers nearly all of the city, with new stations opening almost every year. Also you can see some spectacular station architecture. You can even use the city’s waterways to look around.
If you haven’t been there yet, I hope you will visit St. Petersburg one day and witness the charm of the magnificent city.

My name is Slobodchikov Slava. I was born in a small town. It`s called Andreapol. There is a river running across the town. Andreapol is situated on the both sides of the river. It`s called Zapadnaya Dvina. Andreapol region is famous for its great forests and lakes.
Most of the streets are dark and narrow. There are a lot of one family cottages. They are not much different from each other.
In the heart of the town we hame a small square. There are some monuments to an Unknown soldier and a small History museum in the town.
Also you can find a post-office, a railway station, a hospital,a hotel,some shops, 3 secondary schools, musical and sport schools here.
In summer the town is green because of trees and flowers. In winter there is much snow.
The countryside around Andreapol is beatiful. My home – town is a very guiet place with very little traffic, few people in the streets during the day – time. The town has a long and interesting history.

People can live in the city or in rural regions. People decide where they want to live and move there. Sometimes they have to change the place of living because the work requires it. Some people prefer to live in isolation from the rest of the world. They choose places which are located far from cities and rural regions. Sometimes it is quite difficult to get there.

However also it was interesting for me to do something of daily routine there. So I can say that I knew what it meant to live there though a bit. All-Russian Olympiad of School Students was the second time when I visited Saint Petersburg. That time I had even more opportunities to know the city.

I like this city, its people and its sights. I hope I will visit Saint Petersburg as often as possible.

There is nothing better and the most expensive in the world like Native Land. It gives us wings for flight, lights every our step. It is impossible to choose Native Land. It can be only loved or treated indifferently to.
Unfortunately some people don’t have the sense of patriotism and feeling of pride. How to develop this sense?
Recently I have been to the city at the bank of the river the Neva – Saint Petersburg. I visited a lot of excursions and knew the city’s history. I was very impressed by magnificent buildings of Cathedrals, ancient Palace`s towers and many other sights. Having seen all the sights I understood that exactly in such cities we could develop the spirit of Homeland and bring up to love the country.
After this journey my love to the Native Land became stronger and I’m ready to defend it and do good to it.

In my composition I would like to write about Moscow. Moscow is the capital of Russia. Prince Yuri Dolgoruky founded Moscow in 1147.
Moscow is situated in the centre of European Russia. The population of Moscow is about 10 million people. The weather in summer is very hot, sunny,sometimes rainy. The weather in winter is very cold and snowy. Most Muscovites live in the city. Many people prefer to live in country homes.
Moscow is a cultural center of Russia. There are more than 80 museums in Moscow: the Historical Museum, the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, and the Tretyakov Gallery. Every year 14 million people visit museums. Moscow is famous for its theatres. Moscow has about 200 theatres: the Bolshoy and the Maliy Theatres in Teatralnaya Square. In Moscow there is Red Square and the Kremlin.
I would like to invite my foreign friend to visit Moscow. You may visit Moscow in winter because you can play snowballs and make a snowman. Moscow is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Moscow is a heart of Russia. I`m proud of Moscow.
