It was founded in 1703 by Peter the Great. One can only imagine how rich its history is. For a long time St. Petersburg was the capital of Russia. Nowadays it is the second largest city in Russia and the third largest city in Europe, with the population of more than 5 million people (2015).
St. Petersburg is an important economic, scientific and cultural centre of the country. A lot of enterprises and international companies are located here. Tourism also plays a great role in the economic development of the city. St. Petersburg is not only beloved by Russian citizens, it is the place which foreigners will never forget.
St. Petersburg is a major transport hub. The city has an extensive network of public transport with buses, trams and underground. St. Petersburg is served by Pulkovo International Airport which is located on the outskirts of the city. Apart from that there are some seaports.
Everyone knows that St. Petersburg is usually referred to as the cultural capital of Russia. It is the city of great monuments, historical museums and other sites which belong to the World Heritage. Among them there is the Hermitage, the Mariinsky Theatre, Kazan Cathedral, the Peterhof Grand Palace, Saint Isaac’s Cathedral, the Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood and many others.
The city is the place where a lot of festivals and celebrations are held. It is a unique city with its own ingenious atmosphere.

I live and study in Kazan city, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan. It’s my native city as I was born here. Kazan is located on the left bank of the Volga river and it was founded more than one thousand years ago. So it is a very old place, with rich and fascinating history. The population of my city is multinational and enormous: about one and a half million people. Kazan has changed greatly from the moment when I was born and it has grown much bigger, but still it keeps its own traditions and some strict religious rules. The people of my city are friendly and hospitable, polite and intelligent to my mind.
The capital of Tatarstan is a city of contrasts: there are quarters of modern high-rise buildings and districts with old historical places; some districts are awfully noisy and crowded, with long traffic jams, the others are very clean and quiet. Our transport system is really busy: we have a railway station, a big river port, an airport, buses, trolleybuses, trams and trains of the Kazan metro which was opened in 2005.
There are plenty of impressive sights for our guests in the historical centre of the city: the Kremlin of the 10th century, the Millenium bridge, the Kul-Sharif mosque and other beautiful cathedrals and mosques. Kazan has unique museums, able to suit any taste: the Fine Arts museum, the museum of Leo Tolstoy, the National museum of Tatarstan, the museum of Zoology.
My native city is a recognized sports capital of Russia. It has hosted many important sports events. The International Summer Universiade of 2013 was among them. And in 2018 our city is going to host the FIFA World Cup.
I feel proud of my birthplace and I am sure that Kazan is the place which is worth visiting at least once in our life. I know that many tourists from abroad come here and they feel enraptured with the local sights.

I was born in a small town where my granny lived. But a few years later my parents decided to move to another place because they got jobs there. So, now I live in a wonderful town of Kamenets-Podolskyi, which is located in Khmelnitsky region and is very famous among Ukrainians. The population of the town is approximately 120,000 inhabitants.
The town is divided into several parts but the main division may be as follows: the new town and the old town. All the historical monuments, memorials and museums are concentrated in the old town where you can meet tourists from all over the world. Different concerts and international festivals are held here. However, the main tourist attraction is the large fortress, which, according to the historical records, was founded in the 11th century as a defensive fort by Cossacks. This fortress has become a great tourist attraction of my town.
The new part of the town is quite modern and busy. The streets are full of people; the roads are full of cars as in any other town or city. It is the place where you can easily find lots of cafes, restaurants and hotels.
In general, the town is highly industrially developed. There are a lot of plants and factories. At the same time it is a student town due to many educational establishments and schools. In addition, if you like to do outdoor activities or relax in the nature, there are a lot of parks and gardens, which, by the way, make the town look green and fresh. I am sure that people of ages can find what to do in Kamenets-Podilskyi because there is a lot of entertainment there, which varies from disco clubs and cinemas to art galleries and libraries.
This is the town of contrasts where the past is tightly connected with the present. I am really glad that I am its citizen. My city is very beautiful. All tourists of our city always want to visit Red Square. The main sight of this square is the Kremlin Palace. Also you can see the Spasskaya Tower and visit the Armoury and diamond fund.
There are a lot of museums in Moscow. I like to go to the State Tretyakov Gallery and watch the paintings. My city is rich in cultural places. There are a lot of theatres, showrooms and concert halls in Moscow. I visited Bolshoi Theatre with my parents. The performance was very exciting and I was full of unforgettable impressions.
Many people think that Moscow is noisy city but there are a lot of quiet parks and public gardens in it. I love my city very much because it is fine and majestic. I’m proud of my city and I’m glad that I live here.

MY NATIVE TOWN
I was born in Donetsk and it is my native town. It was founded in 1869 and it was called Uzovka. First it was a small mining settlement but in the upper part of the River Kalmius it had rich stores of coal, and very quickly it grew into a huge mining and industrial centre.
I should say that Donetsk is rich in coal and iron ore. People soon discovered it and in 1866 there appeared first iron workshops. In 1869 John Uze, the London manager, arrived and settled on the banks of the River Kalmius. He was invited by the government, his aim was to develop the rich deposits. John Uze was a good specialist, he built a blacksmith’s workshop, which grew into the future Donetsk Metallurgical Plant. In 1899 there was built a plant producing mining equipment. Today we know it as Donetsk Machine Building Plant.
In 1924 this settlement became a city and was named Stalino. In 1932 it became the capital of Donbass. During World War II the most part of the city was destroyed.
In 1961 the city was called Donetsk. As it was the city with rich deposits its population grew up.
Today we know Donetsk as an administrative, industrial, scientific and cultural centre. There are many industrial enterprises, construction associations and different organizations. Its scientific achievements are known all over Ukraine and even abroad. The educational establishments are famous for the excellent quality of education. Everybody knows Donetsk Medical University, or Donetsk National Technical University. Today there are many other colleges, institutes, universities, where study students not only from Ukraine but also from foreign states. There are line theatres in the city. There is also the Philarmony, a circus, a planetarium, a great number of Palaces of Culture, many museums, libraries, clubs and cinemas.
The main street of Donetsk is Artyoma Street. The streets are long and beautiful. They are always in motion, sometimes even happen traffic jams.
I would like to tell you that I like my town. I know every corner of it. Wherever I go I am always glad to come back to my native town. For me there is no other place in the world where I can feel like home.

I have many favourite places in my town: the Volga Bay, parks and cinemas.
You can see many people and children on the Volga Bay. There are many exciting coloured fountains here. In summer you can boat and in winter you can skate.
We have a lot of parks. Each park is very nice and cozy, where children and their parents gather for the merry and bright holidays, musical fairy tales, theatrical performances. Cheboksary is situated on both banks of the Volga, and is one of the most beautiful green cities in Russia. The main advantage of the Chuvash Republic is good location on the Volga River, which flows through the picturesque and green places. Volga and Sursko beaches, attractive natural landscape are attractive moments for tourism development.
The town also has a cinema. I love to go and watch movies with friends and parents.
We have a lot of monuments. Cheboksary is the cultural center of the republic and has more than 100 monuments, including prominent figures of culture and art.
I like Cheboksary very much and I love my city.

Hey, folks! Ten years ago I discovered my new obsession — travelling. I think it is fun and has a lot of benefits. I’ve visited different places, countries and cities and today I want to share my opinion about my favorite city, St. Petersburg.
Before the October Revolution, St. Petersburg “Window on Europe” was the capital of Russia and one of the world’s cosmopolitan cities. Great number of foreign experts were employed to bring knowledge and expertise in the arts, crafts and sciences that boosted capital to be the one of famous cities in the world.
The city is cultural centre of the country. It’s a place of grandiose architecture and picturesque canals. Wandering around the city you’ll find world-famous attractions like the Hermitage, St. Isaac’s Cathedral and the Mariinsky Theatre. Every traveler can feel rich atmosphere of this beautiful place.
If you want to have a tour around the city I recommend to use public transport network which is efficient and extensive, though a little bit crowded. The metro is without a doubt the best type of transport for visitors and covers nearly all of the city, with new stations opening almost every year. Also you can see some spectacular station architecture. You can even use the city’s waterways to look around.
If you haven’t been there yet, I hope you will visit St. Petersburg one day and witness the charm of the magnificent city.

My name is Alexandra. I’m a ninth grade student at the secondary school. My native town is Rostov-on-Don. I was born in this city and spent all my childhood years here. Having the population over one million, I can say that it’s a metropolis and the administrative center of our region. Rostov is a port city as it is situated on one of the major Russian rivers called the Don. I like my city, although some people find it to be too large and difficult to navigate. We have recently learnt a bit about its history. It was interesting to know that the first custom house was established in this area by Empress Elizabeth in the 18th century. Its purpose was to control trade relations with Turkey. The name Rostov-on-Don appeared at the beginning of the 19th century and the city quickly developed into a major trade center and communication hub. All in all, the city has eight districts. The most populated is the Voroshilovsky district. It houses more than 200 people. The climate is mild in my city, although closeness to the Don River and the Azov Sea influences greatly the weather conditions. It often rains and the level of humidity is rather high. My city is full of attractions and entertainment. For example, we often visit the local aqua park H2O, the dolphinarium, the Rostov State circus and the family entertainment center “Safari”. When we have guests from other cities we show them around. Most people like the Don River lookout and its bridges. The city is also full of ancient fortresses, beautiful churches and cathedrals. I know that many notable people have lived and created their masterpieces in Rostov. Among them, Anton Chekhov, Mikhail Sholokhov, Dmitri Mendeleev, Martiros Saryan. В Казани есть уникальные музеи, способные удовлетворить любой вкус: музей изящных искусств, музей Л.Толстого, национальный музей Татарстана, зоологический музей.
Мой родной город является признанной спортивной столицей России. Он принимал гостей многих важных спортивных событий. Международная летняя Универсиада-2013 была одной из них. А в 2018 г. наш город собирается принимать участников Кубка мира FIFA.
Я горжусь местом своего рождения, и я уверен, что Казань – это место, которое стоит посетить хотя бы раз в жизни. Я знаю, что многие туристы приезжают к нам, и они приходят в восторг от местных достопримечательностей.

I was born in a small town where my granny lived. But a few years later my parents decided to move to another place because they got jobs there. So, now I live in a wonderful town of Kamenets-Podolskyi, which is located in Khmelnitsky region and is very famous among Ukrainians. The population of the town is approximately 120,000 inhabitants.
The town is divided into several parts but the main division may be as follows: the new town and the old town. All the historical monuments, memorials and museums are concentrated in the old town where you can meet tourists from all over the world. Different concerts and international festivals are held here. However, the main tourist attraction is the large fortress, which, according to the historical records, was founded in the 11th century as a defensive fort by Cossacks. This fortress has become a great tourist attraction of my town.
The new part of the town is quite modern and busy. The streets are full of people; the roads are full of cars as in any other town or city. It is the place where you can easily find lots of cafes, restaurants and hotels.
In general, the town is highly industrially developed. There are a lot of plants and factories. At the same time it is a student town due to many educational establishments and schools. In addition, if you like to do outdoor activities or relax in the nature, there are a lot of parks and gardens, which, by the way, make the town look green and fresh. I am sure that people of ages can find what to do in Kamenets-Podilskyi because there is a lot of entertainment there, which varies from disco clubs and cinemas to art galleries and libraries.
This is the town of contrasts where the past is tightly connected with the present. I am really glad that I am its citizen.

My name is Eliza and I’m fifteen years old. I live in Moscow. It is the capital of Russia and the biggest city of the country.
My city is very beautiful. All tourists of our city always want to visit Red Square. The main sight of this square is the Kremlin Palace. Also you can see the Spasskaya Tower and visit the Armoury and diamond fund.
There are a lot of museums in Moscow. I like to go to the State Tretyakov Gallery and watch the paintings. My city is rich in cultural places. There are a lot of theatres, showrooms and concert halls in Moscow. I visited Bolshoi Theatre with my parents. The performance was very exciting and I was full of unforgettable impressions.
Many people think that Moscow is noisy city but there are a lot of quiet parks and public gardens in it. I love my city very much because it is fine and majestic. I’m proud of my city and I’m glad that I live here.

MY NATIVE TOWN
I was born in Donetsk and it is my native town. It was founded in 1869 and it was called Uzovka. First it was a small mining settlement but in the upper part of the River Kalmius it had rich stores of coal, and very quickly it grew into a huge mining and industrial centre.
I should say that Donetsk is rich in coal and iron ore. People soon discovered it and in 1866 there appeared first iron workshops. In 1869 John Uze, the London manager, arrived and settled on the banks of the River Kalmius. He was invited by the government, his aim was to develop the rich deposits. John Uze was a good specialist, he built a blacksmith’s workshop, which grew into the future Donetsk Metallurgical Plant. In 1899 there was built a plant producing mining equipment. Today we know it as Donetsk Machine Building Plant.
In 1924 this settlement became a city and was named Stalino. In 1932 it became the capital of Donbass. During World War II the most part of the city was destroyed.
In 1961 the city was called Donetsk. As it was the city with rich deposits its population grew up.
Today we know Donetsk as an administrative, industrial, scientific and cultural centre. There are many industrial enterprises, construction associations and different organizations. Its scientific achievements are known all over Ukraine and even abroad. The educational establishments are famous for the excellent quality of education. Everybody knows Donetsk Medical University, or Donetsk National Technical University. Today there are many other colleges, institutes, universities, where study students not only from Ukraine but also from foreign states. There are line theatres in the city. There is also the Philarmony, a circus, a planetarium, a great number of Palaces of Culture, many museums, libraries, clubs and cinemas.
The main street of Donetsk is Artyoma Street. The streets are long and beautiful. They are always in motion, sometimes even happen traffic jams.
I would like to tell you that I like my town. I know every corner of it. Wherever I go I am always glad to come back to my native town. For me there is no other place in the world where I can feel like home.

I have many favourite places in my town: the Volga Bay, parks and cinemas.
You can see many people and children on the Volga Bay. There are many exciting coloured fountains here. In summer you can boat and in winter you can skate.
We have a lot of parks. Each park is very nice and cozy, where children and their parents gather for the merry and bright holidays, musical fairy tales, theatrical performances. Cheboksary is situated on both banks of the Volga, and is one of the most beautiful green cities in Russia. The main advantage of the Chuvash Republic is good location on the Volga River, which flows through the picturesque and green places. Volga and Sursko beaches, attractive natural landscape are attractive moments for tourism development.
The town also has a cinema. I love to go and watch movies with friends and parents.
We have a lot of monuments. Cheboksary is the cultural center of the republic and has more than 100 monuments, including prominent figures of culture and art.
I like Cheboksary very much and I love my city.

Hey, folks! Ten years ago I discovered my new obsession — travelling. I think it is fun and has a lot of benefits. I’ve visited different places, countries and cities and today I want to share my opinion about my favorite city, St. Petersburg.
Before the October Revolution, St. Petersburg “Window on Europe” was the capital of Russia and one of the world’s cosmopolitan cities. Great number of foreign experts were employed to bring knowledge and expertise in the arts, crafts and sciences that boosted capital to be the one of famous cities in the world.
The city is cultural centre of the country. It’s a place of grandiose architecture and picturesque canals. Wandering around the city you’ll find world-famous attractions like the Hermitage, St. Isaac’s Cathedral and the Mariinsky Theatre. Every traveler can feel rich atmosphere of this beautiful place.
If you want to have a tour around the city I recommend to use public transport network which is efficient and extensive, though a little bit crowded. The metro is without a doubt the best type of transport for visitors and covers nearly all of the city, with new stations opening almost every year. Also you can see some spectacular station architecture. You can even use the city’s waterways to look around.
If you haven’t been there yet, I hope you will visit St. Petersburg one day and witness the charm of the magnificent city.

Привет, ребята! Десять лет назад я обнаружила, что моей новой навязчивой идеей стали путешествия. Я думаю, что это веселое занятие с кучей преимуществ. Я посещала разные места, страны и города, и сегодня я хочу поделиться своим мнением о моем любимом городе, Санкт–Петербурге.
Он был основан в начале 18 века (1703 г.) Петром Первым, и постепенно расширялся поколениями российских монархов. На протяжении многих лет Санкт-Петербург был столицей Российской империи, поэтому вы можете только представить захватывающую историю города. В настоящее время это второй по величине город в России и третий по величине в Европе. Его население составляет более 5 миллионов человек.
До Октябрьской революции Санкт–Петербург, или «окно в Европу», был столицей России и одним из космополитических городов мира. Большое количество иностранных специалистов было привлечено для того, чтобы принести знания и опыт в области искусства, ремесла и науки, которые способствовали тому, что столица стала одной из самых знаменитых городов мира.
Город является культурным центром страны. Это место грандиозной архитектуры и живописных каналов. Бродя по городу вы найдете такие всемирно известные достопримечательности как Эрмитаж, Исаакиевский собор и Мариинский театр. Каждый путешественник может почувствовать богатую атмосферу этого прекрасного места.
Если вы хотите совершить экскурсию по городу, то я рекомендую использовать сеть общественного транспорта, которая эффективна и обширна, но немного переполнена. Метро, без сомнения, является лучшим видом транспорта для посетителей и охватывает практически весь город, причем новые станции открываются почти ежегодно. Также вы можете увидеть впечатляющую архитектуру станции. Вы можете даже использовать водные пути города, чтобы осмотреться.
Если вы до сих пор не были там, то я надеюсь, что однажды вы посетите Санкт-Петербург и увидите очарование этого великолепного города.

Dear friends! My name is Nastya Lozbyakova. I am a pupil. I study in the 6th form at local State School. I have got many subjects at school, but my favorite subject is English. I want to tell you about my native town.
I was born in Rtishchevo. It is a small town in Saratov region, but it has a large railway station. Rtishchevo was founded in 1870. There are no big factories in our town and the houses are not very large. But I love Rtishchevo.
The square is situated in the centre of the town. There is a big park, a swimming pool and a stadium next to the park. Also we have got 2 hotels, many shops, some cafes,2 hospitals, 9 schools . There are two fine churches here. We can see buses and cars in the streets. The streets are rather long and green and there are lot`s of trees. In spring and in summer the trees are green. There are a lot of gardens in front of the houses. In the gardens we can see many trees, beautiful red, blue and yellow flowers.
The landscape around our town is very nice. There are two rivers the Isnair and the Olshanka next to the town where we can swim or fish.
I am proud of Rtishchevo because it is my native town.

Я родилась в Ртищево. Это маленький городок в Саратовской области, но в то же время крупная железнодорожная станция. Город Ртищево был основан в 1870 году. В городе нет больших заводов и дома не очень большие. Но я люблю Ртищево.
Сквер находится в центре города. Рядом расположены парк, бассейн и недалеко от парка стадион. Также в городе 2 гостиницы, много магазинов, несколько кафе,2 больницы, 9 школ. Есть 2 прекрасные церкви. На улицах можно увидеть много автобусов и машин. Улицы довольно длинные зелёные, много деревьев. Весной и летом деревья зелёные. Перед домами много садов. В садах можно увидеть много деревьев, красивые красные. синие и жёлтые цветы.
Природа вокруг города очень красива. Рядом с городом протекают 2 речки Изнаир и Ольшанка. Там мы можем ловить рыбу и купаться.
Я горжусь Ртищевом, потому что это мой родной город.

I`d like to tell you about my native town. I live in Murmansk region. It is situated on the Kola Peninsula. Murmansk region is sometimes called the Peninsula of Treasures. Among the treasures secreted in the soil and rock of the Kola Peninsula, one occasionally encounters stones striking beauty and color. Everybody has their native town. So do I. My native town is Apatity. It is called by the name of mineral Apatite. It is the “stone of fertility”. We`ve got nice and big Khibin mountains. Apatite has been mined in these mountains since the 1930.
My town is not big. There are about 68 000 people live in it. There are only 10 schools, a swimmingpool, a cinema, several museums, and constructions for rock-climbing and a lot of friendly people in my town. Every winter many people from other cities come here to skiing on the Khibin Mountains and visit art salon “Salma”. You can find there beautiful pictures are made from different minerals. Also you can see competition of ball dances and visit exhibitions “Stone flower” in February.
Our proud is northern lights. This sort of light show is seldom seen outside the Far North.

Я бы хотел рассказать о моем родном городе. Я живу в Мурманской области. Она находится на Кольском полуострове. Полуостровом сокровищ называют Мурманскую область. В богатейших здешних недрах хранятся поразительные по красоте и цветовой гамме минералы.
У каждого есть родной город, и у меня тоже. Мой родной город Апатиты. Он назван в честь минерала “Апатит”. Это камень плодородия. У нас красивые и большие горы Хибины. “Апатит” добывается в этих горах с 1930 года.
Мой город не большой. Примерно 68000 людей живут здесь. В городе 10 школ, плавательный бассейн, кинотеатр, несколько музеев, сооружения для скалолазания и много дружелюбных людей. Каждую зиму много людей из других городов приезжают покататься на лыжах в Хибинских горах и посетить художественный салон “Салма”. Здесь вы найдете красивые картины, сделанные из различных минералов. Также вы можете посмотреть соревнования по бальным танцам и посетить выставку “Каменный цветок” в феврале.
Наша гордость это северное сияние. Только на Крайнем Севере можно наблюдать такую игру света.

My name is Alexandra. I’m a ninth grade student at the secondary school. My native town is Rostov-on-Don. I was born in this city and spent all my childhood years here. Having the population over one million, I can say that it’s a metropolis and the administrative center of our region. Rostov is a port city as it is situated on one of the major Russian rivers called the Don. I like my city, although some people find it to be too large and difficult to navigate. We have recently learnt a bit about its history. It was interesting to know that the first custom house was established in this area by Empress Elizabeth in the 18th century. Its purpose was to control trade relations with Turkey. The name Rostov-on-Don appeared at the beginning of the 19th century and the city quickly developed into a major trade center and communication hub. All in all, the city has eight districts. The most populated is the Voroshilovsky district. It houses more than 200 people. The climate is mild in my city, although closeness to the Don River and the Azov Sea influences greatly the weather conditions. It often rains and the level of humidity is rather high. My city is full of attractions and entertainment. For example, we often visit the local aqua park H2O, the dolphinarium, the Rostov State circus and the family entertainment center “Safari”. When we have guests from other cities we show them around. Most people like the Don River lookout and its bridges. The city is also full of ancient fortresses, beautiful churches and cathedrals. I know that many notable people have lived and created their masterpieces in Rostov. Among them, Anton Chekhov, Mikhail Sholokhov, Dmitri Mendeleev, Martiros Saryan. I’m proud to be living in this city. In my opinion, it’s one of the most beautiful and interesting parts of Russia.
