Australia is a magnificent place with unparalleled natural setting and unique geographical location. Many people desire to visit the country because of its wildlife, climate, picturesque coast line of blue Pacific and Indian oceans, surfing schools, beautiful people and sightseeing attractions of Sydney. People say there are some pros and cons of living in this place.
Firstly, the best benefits of moving to Australia are its warm climate, great weather and swimming in the warm ocean almost throughout the year. Foreign visitors are always astonished at the variety of birds and animals there: kangaroos, koalas, Tasmanian devils, bats, wombats, echidnas, emus, crocodiles, numerous spiders and other insects. Moreover, good and warm weather is favourable for leisure sports and outdoor recreation, that is why locals spend their time in public pools, ride bikes and surf a lot.
Furthermore, Australia is a safe and politically stable state. There is a plenty of opportunities to make a decent living there because of developed health system, good schools, social services. Some recent studies show that the country is a suitable place to raise children there because mothers and pregnant women can get decent allowances. Health benefits are accessible not only for local, but immigrants too.
However, there are some disadvantages of living in Australia. On the one hand, wildlife is beautiful, but on the other hand it can be very dangerous because of such uninvited guests as snakes and spiders in somebody’s dwelling or sharks in the ocean. Besides, taxes are very high and its system is really complicated. Despite the high-class medical system, skin cancer rates are the highest ones in the world.
As a result, the pros outweigh the cons and it seems to be the right balance for a great and happy life.

One of the richest country in the world is known with its unique fauna and flora, endless desert, unforgettable natural landscapes and, of course, the tremendous “take it easy”-lifestyle of the Australians.
On the right coast of the continent are located the metropolitan cities, where the larger part of population lives. The rest of the huge island is occupied by desert plains and mountains, where the minerals are concentrated.
Such cute animals of Australia, like jumpy kangaroo or “exotic grey teddy bear” the koala, are well-known symbols of the state, but except, travelling along the green part of the continent the tourist can also face to other unusual representatives of fauna. The vegetable world of the island is no less amazing. On the territory of Australia grow wonderful plants like eucalyptus and acacia. Totally, about 85% of flora and fauna are endemic that means they are native to the certain location and exist only in Australia.
While everyone wants to see Australia, I would prefer to live there. And my dream is based not only on the stereotypes about rich life in the highly developed country, but on the statistic data about the level of happiness of people living there.
The Australians are deprived of ambitions and refused of the desire for being the best and the first like American people. The life of average Ozzy (as they are calling themselves) is joy and pleasure. Geologically Australia is the most ancient of the continents. But for many centuries it was marked on the maps as “terra incognita”.
The first man who reached the Australian coasts was Willem Jansz, a Dutch seaman. He landed on the northern coast of the continent in 1606.
The northern and western coasts were investigated by the Dutch in the 17th century. The sailors named the continent New Holland.
In 1770 James Cook, a British navigator, reached the coasts of Australia. He was the first to investigate Australia and named a lot of its mountains and bays.
The beginning of the British colonization of Australia was connected with the loss of the thirteen American colonies during the War of Independence. The British government lost the right to send criminals from England to North America. The loss was compensated by seizing new territories. The first group of criminals arrived in Australia in 1787 and founded a settlement named Sydney. And only in 1793 the first group of settlers who were not convicts came to Australia.
The 50s of the 19th century were the turning point in the history of Australia. The deposits of gold were found then, and it led the country to the rapid economic development. Till that time Australia had held the first place at the world wool market. Since that time the industry started to develop in the country.
The discovery of gold also led to a large wave of immigrants to the country. In 1900 the British colonies got the rights of states. In 1901 they united in a single state. That was the beginning of the modern Australia.

Before real roads and railways came, the river carried people and goods from the east up into the country. Some towns on the Murray still keep the old riverboats, and visitors can ride them.
Tasmania is an island in the south of Australia. It s not big. It’s the same size as England. It also differs from the other Australian states. There are no deserts in Tasmania. It often rains, both in winter and summer. Only half a million people live in Tasmania, and a large part of the island is still covered with wild, beautiful wild forests. These forests are full of wonderful flowers and interesting animals. Once upon a time, there was living a nation of Tasmanian people. They spoke their own language, had own culture. In a few decades after arrival of white people, they disappeared as a nation.

People say there are some pros and cons of living in this place.
Firstly, the best benefits of moving to Australia are its warm climate, great weather and swimming in the warm ocean almost throughout the year. Foreign visitors are always astonished at the variety of birds and animals there: kangaroos, koalas, Tasmanian devils, bats, wombats, echidnas, emus, crocodiles, numerous spiders and other insects. Moreover, good and warm weather is favourable for leisure sports and outdoor recreation, that is why locals spend their time in public pools, ride bikes and surf a lot.
Furthermore, Australia is a safe and politically stable state. There is a plenty of opportunities to make a decent living there because of developed health system, good schools, social services. Some recent studies show that the country is a suitable place to raise children there because mothers and pregnant women can get decent allowances. Health benefits are accessible not only for local, but immigrants too.
However, there are some disadvantages of living in Australia. On the one hand, wildlife is beautiful, but on the other hand it can be very dangerous because of such uninvited guests as snakes and spiders in somebody’s dwelling or sharks in the ocean. Besides, taxes are very high and its system is really complicated. Despite the high-class medical system, skin cancer rates are the highest ones in the world.

On the right coast of the continent are located the metropolitan cities, where the larger part of population lives. The rest of the huge island is occupied by desert plains and mountains, where the minerals are concentrated.
Such cute animals of Australia, like jumpy kangaroo or “exotic grey teddy bear” the koala, are well-known symbols of the state, but except, travelling along the green part of the continent the tourist can also face to other unusual representatives of fauna. The vegetable world of the island is no less amazing. On the territory of Australia grow wonderful plants like eucalyptus and acacia. Totally, about 85% of flora and fauna are endemic that means they are native to the certain location and exist only in Australia.
While everyone wants to see Australia, I would prefer to live there. And my dream is based not only on the stereotypes about rich life in the highly developed country, but on the statistic data about the level of happiness of people living there.
The Australians are deprived of ambitions and refused of the desire for being the best and the first like American people. The life of average Ozzy (as they are calling themselves) is joy and pleasure. Australia, or the Commonwealth of Australia, as it is officially called, is situated on the island continent. It also occupies the Island of Tasmania and some minor islands round the coast of the continent.
It is a highly developed industrial-agrarian country. Its area is about 8 million km2. It is the only state in the world that occupies the territory of a whole continent.
The capital of Australia is Canberra, which became the capital only in 1927.
From 1787 to 1867 Australia was a place where criminals were sent from Britain. That is why the official language of Australia is English.
Almost one half of Australian territory is occupied by deserts and semideserts. For quite a long period of time it was thought to be useless for economic development. But it is rich in coal, iron ore, bauxites, uranium, lead and many other mineral resources.
For almost a century the production and export of sheep wool was the basis of the economy of the country. Now the most important industries are oil, chemical, ore mining, radioelectronics, and food industry. The country exports agricultural products and raw materials.
As for the nature, the commonest trees of Australia are the eucalyptus and the Australian acacia or mimosa, the national emblem of the country. Such unusual animals as a kangaroo or a koala-bear originate from Australia.

Geologically Australia is the most ancient of the continents. But for many centuries it was marked on the maps as “terra incognita”.
The first man who reached the Australian coasts was Willem Jansz, a Dutch seaman. He landed on the northern coast of the continent in 1606.
The northern and western coasts were investigated by the Dutch in the 17th century. The sailors named the continent New Holland.
In 1770 James Cook, a British navigator, reached the coasts of Australia. He was the first to investigate Australia and named a lot of its mountains and bays.
The beginning of the British colonization of Australia was connected with the loss of the thirteen American colonies during the War of Independence. The British government lost the right to send criminals from England to North America. The loss was compensated by seizing new territories. The first group of criminals arrived in Australia in 1787 and founded a settlement named Sydney. And only in 1793 the first group of settlers who were not convicts came to Australia.
The 50s of the 19th century were the turning point in the history of Australia. The deposits of gold were found then, and it led the country to the rapid economic development. Till that time Australia had held the first place at the world wool market. Since that time the industry started to develop in the country.
The discovery of gold also led to a large wave of immigrants to the country. In 1900 the British colonies got the rights of states. In 1901 they united in a single state. That was the beginning of the modern Australia.

Australia is a vast sub-continental land. It is today an independent member of the Commonwealth, self-governing since January 1, 1901. There are 6 states and an island Tasmania: New South Wales, Northern Territory, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia. The capital of the country is Canberra. The biggest city of Australia is Sydney.
It is located in the state of New South Wales. It’s the best-known place in Australia. But New South Wales has more than cities. There are, for example, the Blue Mountains. They are covered with forests of blue colored eucalyptus trees. The air above the forest contains millions of microscopic drops of eucalyptus oil. When the sun shines, the air of the Blue Mountains is a real, beautiful blue colour.
South Australia is the driest of all the states. The only big river in this place is the Murray River. In the early of the Australian history, the Murray River was South Australia’s main road. Before real roads and railways came, the river carried people and goods from the east up into the country. Some towns on the Murray still keep the old riverboats, and visitors can ride them.
Tasmania is an island in the south of Australia. It s not big. It’s the same size as England. It also differs from the other Australian states. There are no deserts in Tasmania. It often rains, both in winter and summer. Only half a million people live in Tasmania, and a large part of the island is still covered with wild, beautiful wild forests. These forests are full of wonderful flowers and interesting animals. Once upon a time, there was living a nation of Tasmanian people. They spoke their own language, had own culture. In a few decades after arrival of white people, they disappeared as a nation.
Talking about the history of Australia, I should add that Australia as a whole has always been within the British sphere of influence. Firstly, it was the big colony for prisoners. It is a ridiculous fact but it is true. Later, it became an ordinary south country.
Every year, thousands of tourists visit Ayers Rock that is located in the Northern Territory and a strange group of huge red stones, which are holy to the aboriginals.
