New Year is a special holiday in my family. This is the time when we all gather at a big table. A few days before New Year we put up our Christmas tree in the living room. We also decorate other rooms. We put Christmas figurines on the shelves and hang garlands around the house. All these things fill our house with special festive atmosphere.
My mum cooks something special for New Year’s dinner. We all help her. We like to follow the new trend and celebrate New Year wearing same colours as the colour of the animal in Chinese calendar. For example, when we celebrated the New Year of the Red Monkey, we wore red and orange. It is believed, that following this tradition will bring you lots of luck in the new year.
We usually watch different New Year programmes on TV on this day. When the clock on the Kremlin tower strikes midnight, we, according to the long-standing tradition, make our wishes and give each other compliments of the season. After that we exchange gifts with each other.
When I was little, I always looked forward to the coming of New Year. I am a lot older now but have the same feeling in my heart. For me, New Year is the night when air is filled with magic, this is the time of new hopes and aspirations, a feeling of easiness and joy. This is the time when I want to live, enjoy my life to the full and move forward!

New Year is the best of holydays. At New Year’s Eve always appears this strange expectation of something big, new and great. Joyful atmosphere is all around. Everybody is busy picking nice Christmas trees, presents and feasts for holyday table. It seems like fairytale since childhood.
Preparations for this celebration are starting early. Everything begins with general cleaning. Than rooms are decorating with beautiful toys, garlands, holiday lights and candles. But most beautiful decorations are New Year and Christmas wreaths with conifer branches, bright ribbons and figures of angels.
Dishes on holyday table are always special. And the most important moment of celebration is coming of New Year with chiming clock. Last toll marks beginning of grand firework which may last for whole hour. Than all guests, relatives and friends, begin celebrations with dances and contests which last for the whole night. And first thing to do at next is to check all presents.
It is best when whether at New Year is cold and snowy. Colorful lights are flashing in all windows. Everybody is celebrating and having fun. Apparently because New Year is mutual celebration it is so much fun to celebrate it.

Holidays make our life brighter and more interesting. They have different meanings and their own history. During our holidays we can have some fun and just relax. Since my childhood one of my favourite holidays has been New Year’s Day.
New Year’s Day is the best time for me to spend with my family in the magical and festive atmosphere, with delicious food. Schoolchildren love this time because it’s a great start оf their winter vacation. When I was a small child I wrote letters to Father Frost and asked him for some sweets and a toy as a present. I also painted New Year greeting cards and put them under my parents’ pillows.
We usually start getting ready for the New Year’s Day in advance: we prepare presents, buy muсh food and decorate our house and the New Year tree. We also go shopping to find some nice clothes because it’s a good tradition in our family to celebrate the New Year’s Day in new clothes.
My mother always holds a real feast: she makes lots of salads, meat dumplings, cooks chicken with vegetables and bakes fruit tarts. They all taste fantastic. We watch entertaining programmes on TV and set off firecrackers in the yard. Sometimes we go to the central square to watch colourful carnivals, concerts and fireworks. Adults also have a ten-days’ holiday and it gives them a chance to visit their relatives and friends and enjoy the time together. We also have enough time to travel, indulge in sports and other hobbies.
I really enjoy New Year’s Day and every year I look forward to celebrating it with my family.

Dishes on holyday table are always special. And the most important moment of celebration is coming of New Year with chiming clock. Last toll marks beginning of grand firework which may last for whole hour. Than all guests, relatives and friends, begin celebrations with dances and contests which last for the whole night. And first thing to do at next is to check all presents.
It is best when whether at New Year is cold and snowy. Colorful lights are flashing in all windows. Everybody is celebrating and having fun. Apparently because New Year is mutual celebration it is so much fun to celebrate it.

Holidays make our life brighter and more interesting. They have different meanings and their own history. During our holidays we can have some fun and just relax. Since my childhood one of my favourite holidays has been New Year’s Day.
New Year’s Day is the best time for me to spend with my family in the magical and festive atmosphere, with delicious food. Schoolchildren love this time because it’s a great start оf their winter vacation. When I was a small child I wrote letters to Father Frost and asked him for some sweets and a toy as a present. I also painted New Year greeting cards and put them under my parents’ pillows.
We usually start getting ready for the New Year’s Day in advance: we prepare presents, buy muсh food and decorate our house and the New Year tree. We also go shopping to find some nice clothes because it’s a good tradition in our family to celebrate the New Year’s Day in new clothes.
My mother always holds a real feast: she makes lots of salads, meat dumplings, cooks chicken with vegetables and bakes fruit tarts. They all taste fantastic. We watch entertaining programmes on TV and set off firecrackers in the yard. Sometimes we go to the central square to watch colourful carnivals, concerts and fireworks. Adults also have a ten-days’ holiday and it gives them a chance to visit their relatives and friends and enjoy the time together. We also have enough time to travel, indulge in sports and other hobbies.
I really enjoy New Year’s Day and every year I look forward to celebrating it with my family.

Мы смотрим развлекательные передачи по ТВ и запускаем во дворе фейерверк. Иногда мы ездим на центральную площадь и смотрим на красочные карнавалы, концерты и фейерверки. У взрослых тоже 10-дневный отдых, поэтому есть возможность навестить своих родственников и друзей, заняться спортом и любимыми занятиями.
Мне очень нравится Новый год, и каждый раз я с нетерпением жду его, чтобы отпраздновать со своей семьей.
There are many holidays in our country. They are: New Year’s Day, Christmas, Women’s Day, Victory Day, May Day and others.
I like New Year’s Day, it is my favourite holiday. The 1st of January is a winter holiday and now it is the first day of the New Year.
Peter the First changed the Russian calendar in 1699. He made the 31st of December, 1699 the last day of the year. The first of January 1700 became New Year’s Day.
The 1st of January is in the middle of winter. The weather is usually fine and there is a lot of snow everywhere. As the 1st of January is a holiday I don’t go to school and my parents don’t go to work.
We usually have got a very interesting New Year’s party at school. We have got it on the 28th or 29th of December.
Our family prepares for this holiday beforehand. My father buys and brings home a beautiful New Year’s tree at the end of December. Our family has a tradition to buy it. I like to decorate the New Year’s tree with toys, little coloured lights, sweets and a beautiful star on the top.
My mother and grandmother prepare our holiday supper and lay the table. I make a cake.
All the members of our family clean the flat before this nice holiday and then each of us try to dress well. We like to see the New Year in at home with our relatives. They come to see us at 11 o’clock in the evening.
At 12 o’clock we are sitting at the table and we are glad to see the New Year in. We say, “Best wishes for the New Year!”
I hope that next year will be better than the last one.
The New Year’s Day is always connected with our new hopes and dreams.
It is a pleasant moment to get presents on the New Year’s Eve.
I usually get many nice useful things from my parents and relatives.
My parents put their presents under the New Year’s tree.
We don’t go to bed till morning, we watch TV, dance, eat tasty things and make jokes.
I enjoy this holiday very much.

I like all holidays. But everyone of them can be made upset, except one. It’s
the New Year. New Year is a holiday for everyone. The people all over the world
welcome the new year at one moment, that’s why I think it’s the most uniting
holiday in the world, because in this moment every person can say that he loves
everyone. I think it is an international holiday.
But in different countries the New Year is celebrated in different days, for
example it can be celebrated on the 1st of September or. Also I’ve heard that
from 2001 year the New Year will be celebrated on the 1st of March by all
countries all over the world. As for me, I think that it was a right
resolution.
There are lots of New Year traditions in Russia. In every home there is a New
Year tree glittering in colored lights and decorations. Children always wait
for Father Frost to come and give them a present. Many people consider a New
Year to be a family holiday. But most of the young prefer to spend the New Year
there own having parties. As for me I prefer to see the New Year with my
family, because I meet these New Years last times with my family and after some
years I’ll spend it on my own. I must spend as much time as possible with my
family because in some years I’ll have to leave them to begin my own life and
these holidays may be the last.

I would like to tell you about my favorite holiday – Birthday. Birthday is a very wonderful day.
On the morning of my birthday my mom, dad and my younger brother come to my room to congratulate me.
My mother bakes cake. We look forward to the guests. I am always very glad to meet with my guests. I like to receive gifts.
On this day we have a rich dinner. We dance and sing songs, play games and joke, tell funny stories. I think that my birthday is one of the best days of the year.

New Year’s Day
My name is Catherine. I’m 12 years old. In our family’s favorite holiday is New Year’s Eve. In late December, the streets, parks, plazas dress in festive attire. Through the streets and squares stretched garlands colored lanterns. Everyone is preparing for the New Year. And in the main square set a huge tree. We are beginning to prepare for the holiday. On Christmas fairs buy each other gifts, Christmas decorations and tinsel. December 30, we set an artificial tree, and I myself dress up her for the holiday, hang toys, garlands. December 31 I help my mother to cook a festive table on arrival. New Year’s Eve always seems to me a magical and unforgettable. At midnight, after the president’s speech on television, begin to beat the chimes. We congratulate each other a happy new year and make a wish, and then exchange gifts. When I was little, then found the gifts under the tree and thought that they brought me Santa Claus. На новогодних ярмарках покупаем друг другу подарки, ёлочные игрушки и мишуру. 30 декабря мы устанавливаем искусственную ёлку и я сама наряжаю её к празднику, вешаю игрушки, гирлянды. 31 декабря я помогаю маме приготовить праздничный стол к приезду гостей. Новогодняя ночь кажется мне всегда волшебной и незабываемой. В полночь, после выступления президента по телевизору, начинают бить куранты. Мы поздравляем друг друга с новым годом и загадываем желание, а потом обмениваемся подарками. Когда я была маленькая, то подарки находила под ёлкой и думала, что их мне принёс Дед Мороз. И хоть я уже взрослая, и не верю, что существует Дед Мороз, но в новогоднюю ночь хочется оказаться в сказке и поверить в чудо. Новый год приносит много радости и веселья. Я каждый раз с нетерпением жду этого праздника.
There are many festivals in Russia. They are New Year, Christmas, Mother`s day, Maslenitsa, Easter, Victory Day and others. My favourite festival is New Year`s Day. It’s symbols are New Year tree, Grandfather Frost, Snegurochka and tangerines. I like decorating New Year tree with colourful lights, tinsels and toys. It’s wonderful. And I love getting presents.
We have got New Year party at school. Children sing, dance and play.
My family prepares traditional dishes: chicken, pelmeni, cake and Olivier salad. The Olivier salad is made of potatoes, eggs, cucumbers, ham, peas and mayonnaise. I eat a lot of sweets and chocolates on New Year holidays. We present beautiful New Year cards and souvenirs to our relatives and friends.
Everybody is merry and happy on that day.

В России есть много праздников. Это Новый год, Рождество, День Матери, Масленица, Пасха, День Победы и другие. Мой любимый праздник – Новый Год. Его символы : новогодняя ёлка, Дед Мороз, Снегурочка и мандарины. Мне нравится украшать новогоднюю ёлку разноцветными гирляндами, мишурой и игрушками. Она прекрасна. И я люблю получать подарки.
У нас в школе проводятся новогодние вечеринки. Дети поют, танцуют и играют.
